+ 8 A recovered junky's opinion on "tren" cough

ad

Hello community. I see a lot of uncertainty thru out the bodybuilding and AAS community about what exactly causes "tren" cough. I'm 95% sure I know what it is, but I have to provide some personal, yet non identifying background info to explain clearly. (warning to anyone early in recovery from substance abuse, there are triggers in this explanation.)

Ok, so things didn't go great for me growing up and the coping mechanism I found was drug addiction. very long story extremely short, I spent roughly 9 years at the peak of my active addiction, as an IV meth (and heroin) user. It was ALL I concerned myself with for a very long time. When injecting meth, users will use small amounts of liquid, usually water, to dissolve the meth into an injectable form, which thickens the mixture into sort of a soft jelly like substance. Experienced users will make it as thick and dense as possible, to get the best result. The only reason I go into detail about that, is because when you inject it into your vein, it travels thru and eventually reaches a point where it causes a super intense and strange feeling in the throat, often forcing the user to actually cough, which is followed a few seconds later by the desired effect that I won't get into describing because it's not relevant. The point i'm making here, is that when something that is not blood or just water, and is thicker than water, passes thru a certain area of the vein system, it causes this effect.

Now, a shot of meth is usually at the most, 1/2 of a ml, often much less even. So the cough is only for a brief moment. But when we inject anabolic steroid oils into our muscles, we sometimes will nick, pass thru, or otherwise interact with a vein in some way as we reach desired depth. Aspiration cannot show this to us, as the needle tip is not lodged in the vein. So we inject our oil, which is typically between 1-3mls (much larger than the meth shot), pause for 30 seconds or so, and pull out the needle. That oil is now attempting to spread out as evenly as it can because, physics. The pathway that was opened by the needle tip is less resistant than most other directions, so a very small but steady stream of the oil begins leaking into the nicked vein, and traveling thru the vein system, eventually reaching that same place I described earlier, causing a similar effect as the intentional IV injections of the other substance I explained about.

This is what I think it is, and this explains why people report getting "tren" cough even when injecting plain ole test or whatever else. This is also why the cough is way worse when injected directly into the vein, when someone makes a mistake in haste. So it's a misconception to call it tren cough, only because, at best, tren is merely the most reactive in this way, but any steroid and many many other substances would cause similar effects if injected into the vein.

I'm totally open to being proven wrong about this, but I believe it's rare for one person to have both of these experiences in life, and this is why so few of us are aware of this. Not many people who progress to something as extreme and addictive as IV meth use, ever do anything else with their lives except more of that. Fortunately I was able to clean up and after doing some painful work on myself, fell in love with hypertrophy training over a period of 5ish years naturally, eventually joining you all in this community.

Anyone else came to this conclusion for any other reason, or know me to be wrong based on evidence? Let me know! I know my claim is purely anecdotal, so feel free to share your own anecdotal contrary belief. Thank you for reading.

100% agree and have caught not only form tren
always shocked when peoples try to claim tren if they don't have cought and in their opinion if they don't have caught from tren it's mean it is bunk gear))

I find the metallic taste much worse than the cough. I hate feeling like I’m sucking on a penny all day. Good to hear you beat that horrible situation.

First off congrats bro on your sobriety, Im also in recovery from Meth & Heroin, and what a vicious cycle of misery, it made the most horrible decisions for me for most of my life and we are sooo blessed to have been given another opportunity, Im still in early recovery just under 4 months, I had 9 months sober but refunded my misery for 2 months and on top of everything caught Covid 19 which ironically ended up saving my life in my opinion because it forced me to stop my run as I was almost dead running around like a maniac with 103° fever and 2 lung infections, it gave me enough of a break in the hospital to shed the psychosis and realise I was not gonna see my 40th birthday if I didnt stop asap! as I was also overdosing on from the fentanyl anyways enough about that I apologize for getting graphic but I have not experienced this cough from the oil but I obviously know what it feels like from injection meth and I definitely was not aware this was a thing, I always go in the smae area on my ass which is a very big muscle and would be hard to catch a vein I would think in the area I choose. I certainly could be wrong and plz correct me if I am, again Its nice to hear of other guys doing the right thing and beating that monster cause It claims more of us than are able to escape its wrath.

Congratulations man. It really is some intense morbid misery being in active IV addiction, and the system itself perpetuates it, while pretending to the general public that is does everything it can to give us a chance. When in reality, they take people who are maybe just beginning to have a problem, or have had one for a while but were still salvageable, and then instead of helping them, they throw them head first into petty crime / addiction school (jails/prisons), creating a culture around extreme forms of substance addiction, that traps people in a revolving door of pain and punishment. All to make money at the expense of the addict. Anyway, that's a tangent.

If you can keep it up man, things become so much clearer mentally. I never knew how foggy and disconnected my mind was, until I started to regain some of the clarity. Like, as it gets clearer, THEN I can see how much I was effected long term by the use. Things get so much better over time. It just takes serious time to allow the brain and body return to it's intended functions.

Gear is pretty strongly frowned upon in the recovery community, which I understand. If I was someone who had no interest or knowledge in the matter, all I would just know is its an illegal drug that "recovering" addicts are injecting. People get the same shit for using suboxone as well, and that's even a prescribed thing, but since it's so much like an opiate habit, people have their loud mouths strapped to their opinions. Sure, one can make a strong argument either direction, in regard to if a person is "clean" or "sober" within the guidelines of a 12 step program, which essentially indicates that according to the program, they arent. But, I've been clean long enough to realize that this fact doesn't matter one bit. 12 step programs are just some shit some other fucks thought up, wrote down and got started. It's not descended from the fucking heavens and deemed infallible. I couldn't give less of a shit if someone considered me clean in their own mind. I couldn't care less if the programs consider me clean in their objective guidelines. I know now, that abstinence is not even on the priority list. Being biopsychosocially healthy and progressing in life while achieving some form of existence that is better than suffering is the priority. I'll never forget that recreational drugs are never going to work for me, and will always lead me to intensely brutal misery within days of me touching them. But i've also found that using gear enhances me in the ways I want, and they don't cause me to be a selfish piece of shit, and they encourage and motivate me further to be consistent in my efforts to maximize my health in as many ways as I can. Tangent #2 complete. Lol Thanks for reading.

Same here, brother. 7 years clean. Congrats on stepping through the other side.

Nice dude congratulations. I wish more of the guys I knew who were in the program that also are hopping on gear would show their ignorant asses on this site and learn something about what they're doing! Too many guys getting clean are hopping on too quickly, and willingly choosing not to educate themselves in any way whatsoever, which leads them to feeling like they're doing some terrible thing, which leads them to feel like they are being dishonest, which leads to other shitty behaviors, which leads to relapse. THEN if they do get clean again, they spend the rest of their life telling everyone about how bad steroids are because they did all this bad shit to them, when really, all that happened was, they used them completely negligently and improperly, cold turkey'd, and inevitably suffered the consequences of those actions. I'm sure you know because it happens to you too, but guys pop up on the weekly asking for help, running shit like test p and tren e as their very first cycle, or some other even more ridiculous shit. It's frustrating that the majority of people using steroids (as a whole) are these ignorant and negligent dudes, essentially TRYING to perpetuate the stigma society has on gear.

Dude, I think you're right. I also noticed that sometimes after the injection everything is fine and sometimes strange sensations and even taste in the throat appear. I realized that I needed to do injections in those places where these sensations do not exist. I also want to say that after such strange injections, there can be pain.

Sounds right to me, I’m in recovery myself form IV drug use and this makes sense, although like you stated I have not seen any scientific studies on it. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your time.

Yes agreed, my tren cough feels like whatever alchohol (benzyl?) is in the tren has flooded my Bronchioles. Congrats on your 5 years. I am recovered also.

Yea I think that’s the general way it happens.
Obviously Tren is the worst but I’ve gotten the cough off other compounds as well.
I’ve also had it happen from inhaling the alcohol fumes from my wipes..
