+ 2 What's your favourite Carbohydrate Food/Drink?

ad

I know its often a debated topic as some members love their carbs and others hate them or just don't require that much to function.

I need a lot throughout the day to build any kind of muscle having such a fast metabolism which is a bit of a pain as you end up having less room for probably more important protein. Anyhow, I just wondered what everyone's favourite sources are in terms of food and drink if you if you could only have 1 choice for each?!

For me food wise it would have to be a white jacket potatoe as they are just invaluable for a good training session and keep you mentally alert, drink choice it would be Lucozade which is a popular energy drink in the U.K. Not sure if its available in the U.S yet, I think it maybe.

pop tarts ... or mega stuff oreos.. they work great in a pinch ..

We talking favorite for health and performance or favorite for pure enjoyment?

Gotta be russet potatoes and pedialyte for the former and chocolate truffles and vanilla milkshakes for the latter

professer X's picture

Jasmine rice, or red potatoes and pre and post workout would have to be glucose based sour candy. Nerds, sour haribo gummy bears, sweet tarts ect.....

Oh yes there's nothing to get you a nice Haribo addiction more than being on some good ole tren & Dbol - They are great for the hypo's too lol I remember my first bag in Switzerland when you couldn't get them in the U.K - Haribo Bears & then got a massive Tangfastic addiction once they started to import them here! Do you get Rowntree's Jelly Tots over there? They are awesome too

Nice thread brother. Steel cut oats blended in my protein shakes is a fav for me. Jasmine rice with most my meals. But my weakness is salted French fries preferably pre workout meal and sometimes post or cheat meals or midnight snack or if my kids dont finish theirs and deffinately on holidays....

Oats soaked in water 24 hours then blended with chocolate protein powder and cinnamon, then chug. Easiest way for me to get down 100g carbs quickly. Thats my go to 90 min pre workout each day.

Brown sugar poptarts pre workout are also great when in a rush

Onion soup potatoes

Leg day carbs are the best, instant oatmeal, applesauce, and little Debbie cupcakes...
Other days it’s applesauce, cupcakes, and oatmeal...I like to switch it up

Did you eat it raw then bud?

Ozninjaguy's picture

Same bro. As a kid I would dig up wild sweet potatoes down by the creek, and eat the carrots straight out of the garden. We also had a lot of what we called wild tomatoes (Cherry Tomatoes) growing in a vacant lot next door. My neighbour grew sweet peas for the flowers, and when they had pods, I would hide along the fence line and eat the peas. lol - had some fun as a kid.

press1's picture

OMG thats pretty hardcore, don't think I could do that - does it not give you really bad stomach ache? I'm guessing you are also able to stomach raw beef then?

x2 on the potatoes (we call them spuds). In Ireland we drown them in butter and sat though!

Potatoes are where its at.

Many time when talking in the gym we use terms like "Squats are the meat and potatoes of leg training".....yet all these gym rats suck down is plain ole white rice.

The point of bodybuilding is optimization. There is no more complete carb food than the potato. First the variety is seemingly endless. Get out of your comfort zone & do a little research on the type of spuds available, their nutrition profile per, and the preferred preparation for that variety.

Potatoes are alive, a nutritious root vegetable packed with vital vitamins and minerals as well as chalk full of fiber.

Personally, I believe most bodybuilders truly need to add a little bit less new wave ideas and add in a little more meat & potatoes.

x2!

press1's picture

Its funny you say that as everytime now when I buy a bag I always make sure I get the best variety available and pay a little bit more! I use to get the cheapest and then all you end up with is a black/grey coloured interior that stays rock hard no matter how much you nuke it in the microwave with a load of butter on Lol A Maris piper or King Edward seem to do the trick - nice white fluffy inside.
