-1 The Fattest People In The Gym Wear The Most Clothes

ad

Have you ever noticed that the people who wear the most and heaviest clothing while working out are usually the fattest? This seems to be no coincidence. I've noticed it for years in many different gyms.

As you sit there between sets in your stringer looking for a fan; gaze around and you'll see. It seems obvious that the heavy people think if they sweat more they will lose more weight. Sadly all they accomplish is dehydration and hyperthermia. But you can't convince them so don't try.

Being able to perspire and have it evaporate quickly cools the body and helps you recover faster! That's why proper gym ventilation and temperature are important; but that's a separate article.

I have actually witnessed very heavy people doing cardio in thick sweat shirts and believe it or not in overcoats in a warm gym! UNREAL!

This is one of the reasons various gyms are so entertaining! It's all part of our world of sights and sounds and some are really weird!

Some big guys who a totally buffed sometimes try to hide the goods by wearing big baggy long sleeved shirts but usually not heavy material.

We applaud all those who go to the gym and improve their physique. It's a shame to see people sweating unnecessarily when they could be getting better results allowing the perspiration to evaporate.

As someone who is just getting back into training after a long period off yeah ill go back in joggers a bagy teashirts till i loose some bodyfat im not even all that bad but for someone who has once been in superior shape it does knock confidence when theres jacked guys in stringers looking for fans just go to the gym train your best and home to recover people dont need to be starred at my 50pence worth

By no means am I fat and I will wear a hoodie and sweat pants to the gym. For one, it’s extremely comfortable and I sweat my ass off. Two, I’m confident and I don’t need to show off what I have. And if anything, I’ve seen the opposite. I’ve seen overweight people wearing something tight that I couldn’t believe they fit in. Regardless, I give them props for going to the gym and trying to make a self improvement.

Don’t go to the gym to people watch. I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I even said hello to anyone outside of the front desk staff. I try and keep to myself and keep my head down. But when I see stringers and lots of skin I immediately think sweaty nasty bastard who probably doesn’t clean the shit they touch and contaminate with their buckets of sweat.

I wear a random t shirt and shorts with my baseball hat on and get to work. All the guys at my gym that wear stringers are the ones who dont do legs and wear sweat pants to hide it.

be honest, do you touch up your hair and makeup before the gym too?

scootloko's picture

I wear the thick cotton sweat pants but I'm far from fat, never been anywhere near it. Last thing I would ever want to do is burn more calories, I'm just from a generation where sweats were actually considered workout clothes so I don't think anything of it lol.

I would be willing to bet that this trend is more driven by people knowing that they are out of shape and being self conscious about thier body and therefore trying to cover it. Also, as Greg stated below, raising your core body temperature is going to result in more calories burned. Plus, so gives a shit what other people are wearing other than catty old ladies and bitchy college age girls. No disrespect, but I think that you are really missing the ball with this one.

I'm not too sold on all that, more clothes = higher body temp = higher heart rate to cool body down = more calories burned.

johnmarshall12's picture

Yes but for a shorter period of time. That's why Marathon runners part for cold days!

I wear sweat pants and sweatshirts when bulking. They make me look even bigger. Usually bulking during the cooler months so no big deal wearing sweats. Summer time and cutting it is tanks all the way though. I need to keep these guns cool so they don't overheat.

Jayzgainz's picture

The only people I meet at the gym that wear stringer's are arrogant douchebags. I have much more respect for the fat guy plugging away on the treadmill than I do for the guy criticizing everyone else in the gym. Maybe it's a confidence thing? Maybe they only own sweatpants? Regardless it's not really my business.

Couldn't agree more. I also couldn't tell you what I wore to the gym yesterday because I'm not there to make a fashion statement or try to show off.

Exactly pal, you have an overweight guy in there trying to do something positive with his life trying to keep his head down and not be noticed - then you have some pr*** like this judging him for it...

Been going to the gym for 35 years. I don’t own a tank top and am certain I have never looked around for a “fan”.

fusebox's picture

What's the point. I'm there for me. Not paying attention to others. Why all the off the cuff forum posts. Looking for attention maybe

press1's picture

I thought this also - So what if the larger/heavier guys who are obviously more self concious are trying to cover themselves up? What business is it of anyone elses. I'd of thought you'd be paying more attention to your own workout rather than looking around and analyzing and judging other people...

Exactly

They all seem to be wearing spandex in my neck of the woods.

johnmarshall12's picture

Nothing beats a hot chick in spandex bending forward! lol

miracle material for sure.

True, but I’ve actually felt bad for some people’s spandex before... it can only take so much. :-)

Bill G's picture

I like a hoodie. Top up. Blinders on. Time to work. Makes me look like a duesh bag and no one talks to me. Mission accomplished.

Kai is usually in a hoody and sweat pants. Branch also recently said keep that shit to yourself until contest. Reminds me of training in prison outside during winter with a few feet of snow on the ground with no gloves. Beast mode. Eh now I’m a soft ass and like to wear some comfy big ass Jordan shorts and a loose T-shirt

A sleeveless one?

Thebully's picture

it may be nothing to do with their misconceptions on sweating more and actually more to do with the fact they are self conscious of their body. The fact they have dragged theirselves to the gym to improve themselves should be applauded and not scrutinised.

I do ageee that there is a small percentage who seem to be influenced by Kai Greene etc and think they are cool by wearing their hood up as they train.

This all day long. I’d high 5 you if I could

I enjoy training with a hoodie on,dont know why but in my mind sometimes I believe I get a better pump wearing heavy clothes.if it works in my mind Im sure it will have an impact on my physique. This reminded me of what Dorian said ," nobody wants to see that shit until its completely done ". Here fat people actually wear less clothes , probably they cant stand the temperature.
