Those With Keto Diet Experience

ad

What were your experiences like? Were you bulking or cutting? Did you have to carb-up on occasion? Did you feel good or like shit?

I want to start building a classic physique, possibly using a Keto Diet and have some doubts about its effectiveness. I think it goes without saying the Keto Diet works. The bodybuilders of the Golden Era used it and looked amazing! I am also a little bit skeptical that it was used by them year round. Low fat/high carb diets would be as equally effective.

How in the hell can I bulk without carbs? Surely the old-school bodybuilders ate carbs in the off-season to bulk up. If not, mind fucking blown!

Would be nice to get some input. Thanks

I worked with a nutrionist who put me on a straight paleo diet. I ate 7 times a day, real food, high protein and good fats and only got carbs from green veggies. I ate a ton of green veggies with the motto the more bitter the better (collard greens, rabe, mustard greens, Swiss chard, etc). I was able to put on lean muscle and I had no change in energy. I started my cycle with slow carbs like sweet potatoes, quinoa, brown rice, etc and had a ton of fat spilling over on my stomach, my facia was super inflamed and I was big but with little definition. I like the paleo idea, but it was expensive technically you're not even supposed to use protein powder. But to eat 400+g of protein a day was real hard without being able to use a shake or two pre/post workout. Anyways like I said everyone's natural metabolism is different gear or not and that's where genetics come into play.

Appreciate the input. I am going to scrap the Keto Diet idea for bulking and stick with the carbs. Seems there are too many disadvantages to having no carbs at all.

If you want to put on some good muscle...forget about it. If you want to cut...then go for it. I personally am not a fan of it though.

You can do it, but I wouldn't recommended it for long. why don't you just do intermittent fasting that ll do the trick without fucking you up and there are some health benefits to it.

I know a few people that were successful on the keto diet. Me personally I would never run the keto diet especially on cycle because of the lipid damage it does

If you are talking about bulking on keto, you should focus on fat adaption rather than the ketogenic diet

I dont have much experience but I have done it, so i'll share my opinion. Personally, I would rather fast with a great meal plan than do keto. Also, I believe people stay on it for too long. Your body needs Carbs, its your body's fuel, keeps your glycogen full, keeps your brain healthy, maintains blood glucose and helps with the uptake of protein. Why would you stop this!?

When I would do keto, I would do so for 20 days then stop. After those 20 days, It did make me look good indeed but with a price: I felt really lethargic throughout the time, My vascularity started to fade (Which is big for me, I've always been into the vascular look and that's why I'd rather fast) My pump wasn't as prominent anymore, my strength didn't fall but I didn't have the energy to push, so it felt like it fell and at times I had headaches, not headaches, I just didn't feel right I guess. But I did look good in the end...At least from what I was told.

Anyways, I just didn't care for for it. I guess you can say it wasn't for me. i'm a hard gainer to begin with, so it constantly looks like i'm on a lean diet even when i'm bulking lol. So Unless you're a diabetic or about to compete, Then that's when I can see someone doing a keto diet, that's when it will benefit them more. If you're just a regular shmoe like me, that does this as a hobby, there is no need for it.
Stay pumped, full, hard, vascular and full of energy. Eat your carbs, but do so right. Stay away from wheat flour, refined sugars, dairy, not soo much starchy rice with some cardio and/or fasting and you'll look damn good.
Just my opinion !

Last cycle I went into keto for the last month. First time eve during a cycle because I usually do it when I'm off. I was able to hold most of my gains and bodyweight only dropped like 10lbs. All strength stayed. I didn't get miserable either. I went into ketosis within 36 hours, the quickest it's ever taken.

You were intending to cut, then? 10 lbs is not bad at all in one month's time.

Would it also work for bulking?

I personally think carbs are too important when bulking. I hate chewing, we already eat too much food that sucks to chew. The amount of meat I'd have to eat to make gains on keto is unappealing to me. Off cycle I've lost 25lbs in a month. It's a fun diet and you can do a lot of creative meals, but I don't believe its sustainable
