+ 13 Ventrogluteal Injection (Hip Injection)

ad

I've looked at all kind of nursing videos about where the sweet spot is for the ventrogluteal injection. They are showing bone diagrams and getting real technical and super frustrating. I never really could figure it out. It's a great spot - dense muscle, thick and deep, no major nerves, veins or arteries to worry about. Easily holds a 3 cc injection. I finally stumbled on a great video that makes locating the spot really easy. For folks that don't know where the ventrogluteal muscle is, check this out.

I can't guarantee no PIP, but I bet you won't have any even with prop. If I ever do Winny water suspension there I will let you know. But maybe some of you already have?

I've taken a shot or two in this area on each side and although everything felt great day of, the following few days it was tough to walk.

I aspirated etc. to ensure I didn't hit anything (I am pretty sensitive at knowing when I have even before I check) and again went it very smooth.

For a moment I thought this was going to be my new area instead of traditional gluteal but after 3 attempts (left, right then left again) I had the same PIP that came a day or so after that had me hobbling.

I did like it for its ease of reach comparatively as I can often get a cramp or just tire getting in 1.5-2cc into a gluteal shot but I guess its not for everyone.

Bump. (I know this thread is a year old, but it's GREAT to learn this.)

The YOUTUBE video link was perfect on explaining it. I've never thought of using this area, simply cuz I didn't know. Now I do, and knowing is half the battle.

I'm so grateful to eroids for having such a deep database of info. Keep the good info coming, gang. -ZeusM

Holy shit what have I been using? All this time I've been under the impression the vg was more toward the front under the illiac crest. Whatever it is I've been injecting into seems to work well... That particular muscle really pops out when I lean on that leg. I just watched a couple actual medical videos and verified the video linked is accurate. Apparently advice I've been giving on the site has been wrong as far as what the ventrogluteal is. But I suppose any muscle can be injected into right? I have a tough time twisting to get the glutes so where I've been hitting is so easy

Years ago my friends wife ( a nurse) showed us this she also preached against glute injection due to the high level of nerve ending which could get potentially damaged permanently so once i switched ive never looked back ...hip.hip.shoulder.shoulder.then repeat great post gear head +1

Yeah it took me forever to fill comfortable finding it as most videos or diagrams show it in a medical setting with the patient laying on their side. This video is much better from a 1st hand account and like gym junkie I was a little low on hitting the muscle center. Great find gearhead

Nice video and information GearHead.
I've used ventros for quite a while. They are always my go-to spot for many of the reasons you've listed above.
Many people seem to struggle as to where the ventro is (probably due to the crappy diagrams), but this should be a big help to most. +2

This helped a ton, I've been having trouble with this spot for years.
Thanks GearHead +1

Great vid. What's the ideal pin length for this area? Would 1 1/2" be okay here?

Dickkhead's picture

1.5" is perfect for the muscle.

I finally found it. Turns out I thought it was some connective tissue this whole time. When I was first learning the olympic lifts (13 years ago), it was a major problem area for me. When I was learning the snatch, it always prevented me from hitting depth in the overhead squat. Took me a while to get the flexibility to master the lift. Try it out! Put your hand over your head like a press out, and try to squat deep, see if you don't feel a strange pressure on that area.
Going to try and pin it on Thursday.

Overhead squat is hard. There so much needed flexibility needed, but once you get that flexible, you become a better athlete.
