+ 7 My genetic test results and steroid metabolism
So I recently went and sent off my DNA to be tested by 23andme, and once the results were back I sent them off to a company called promethease. They analyze the results and give you information on thousands of genes and what your specific genetics indicate.
Interestingly, I noticed some of my CYP genes which are part of the cytochrome p450 complex were mutated in myself, which causes me to metabolize certain drugs and other chemicals more slowly. Some drugs/hormones specifically mentioned in different variants of the gene were testosterone, estrogen, tamoxifen, clomiphene, letrozole, and arimidex.
So according to this test, I metabolize testosterone, estrogen, and its derivatives very slowly. This would explain why I tend to get similar results on a far lower dose than some of my gym buddies who are on higher dosages. Meanwhile, my body metabolizes AIs and SERMs very well, so I would need higher doses to be more effective. I thought I would share this, as its concrete proof of the old adage that everyone is indeed different. So don't assume that everyone you meet needs the same plan that worked well for you.

Heres the link to the place he got the dna test from only 199 usd sounds like a fair deal
How much are we talking here? I'd probably give it a go if it's not super expensive
Darkhorse has you covered up a post. 200 for 23andme then 5 bucks for promethease to run it through their database and give you all the useful info
Yeah me too, sounds interesting. Doubt it'll be cheap though, I'd guess around £1k all in.
Pretty interesting. It is amazing the stuff they can analyze now.
I tried to +1 one the post and I Fat thumb negged you so fixed it.
There are things that are inducers and inhibitors of cyp 450 components, did the test tell you if you had any mutations to those genes?
Very interesting. I've been thinking of getting my DNA tested myself. How satisfied were you with both tests?
Extremely satisfied. I didn't go into detail here but it gives you information on a multitude of health factors and many related to bodybuilding. Predominant muscle fiber type, what type of diet low carb or fat would work better for you, how you metabolize caffeine/alcohol, just endless pages to scroll through. Haven't even made it to the end myself yet
Have you been able to find out why your CYP genes mutated? Good idea.
My parents got their DNA tested as well and my mother shares this same mutation with me. Just lucky I guess. Saves me money on gear anyway lol
That's funny...lol
Very cool. I was just looking into doing this. Thanks for sharing.
Mine showed the same one.
Interesting so you've done this as well?? I also show a positive result for every single obesity and diabetes related gene which would explain why I have to fight hard to stay lean
I also have like 314 Neanderthal variants, which is pretty high. I thought I would see a lot of bad heart genes but surprisingly my most severe magnitude bad one was a 2x risk for Alzheimers.
I wish that was all I had. Hit about every bad heart health marker they had listed except the cholesterol-related ones. Still I'm making a lot of positive adjustments for my life based on my results, and also seeing a lot of things confirmed that I had started to see on my own but had no explanation for
I had several minor magnitude prostate cancer markers, but really if it isn't a 3 magnitude it probably isn't worth worrying about
Fuck Alzheimer's. I have a relative that has Alzheimer's. They diagnosed him with it becaus he got lost going home. Lived there forty years gets lost and is in a home two months later and doesn't remember anyone.
Yea, I have seen it first hand, maybe the worst way to go TBH. One thing about these tests is just because you carry a gene does not mean you will or won't have that condition. Mine also said I am likely to not feel empathy which anyone that knows me knows I am the complete opposite, lol. Some of them were also damned accurate tho too. I metabolize caffeine slowly so without me even knowing that is why I cap myself at one cup of coffee all these years. Two always leads to a huge crash and headache. I am also resistant to addiction which has always perplexed me at why I have been able to try just about everything without getting hooked, I could never understand addiction, now I know why.
Hate to say it but if I'm ever diagnosed with it I'm done before I forget how to do it
Dang bro. You make me feel like a dumb ass muscle head with a pea brain.
Haha I promise it sounds way more complicated than it really is. Cool to see all the genetics behind what I've seen in life though
Very interesting info...thanx for sharing!
