What's your favorite weight gainer, and why?
I make my own
1 cup of oats
16 0z of milk
4 tbsp of peanut butter
2 tbsp of olive oil
1 banana
1 scoop of whey
Blend and chug!
Turns out to be around 1000-1200 cals.
Cant use the weight gainers out there, they damn near all rock my gut. And the price for the homemade is way less, plus its really whole food not just a slurry of liquid concrete.
Pre-made : dymatize super mass gainer.
Super thin and easy to mix. And best price for what you get.
DYI: much cheaper (for me)
32 oz Whole milk, banana, 10grams essential amino acids, herseys syrup, and 1cup rice flower or ground oats (in coffee grinder)
I like it but its lot of sugar...
Anon+3 maybe I will try that, minus the Hershey syrup as it has enough sugar without it, what's the syrup for? To mask a bad taste perhaps?
I need some taste, it's not bad tasting at all.
I also use this horachata mix instead of syrup and a tablespoon makes it good.
I actually make my own rice flower. There's an indian lady that has a nice instructional video on it.
For both oats and rice flower I use coffee grindr.
I tend to require a lot of carbs, so powdered carbs make it easy. With oats it will be clumpy..
If you soak oats and rice first, then dry them out before grinding, it makes for a nice powder.
It's a process but it helps get you a shit ton of food in.
Don't even get me started with meat shakes lol
Raw eggs and milk pure protein
Steveb3 years ago you were -16 karma and now you're -17 karma. Congratulations
StevebSweet potatoes and oats.
Well like many said 99% of the pre made store bought weight gainers are X amount of protein and 60-150g of carbs that they will call "complex" but their not. Its all either maltodextrin or dextrose or a mix of both. And those are just basically fancy names for sugar. But there is one great one out there called mass gains by IForce Nutriton. it has 75 grams of real complex carbs per serving, all from some of the best sources of carbs, oatmeal and IMO the best quinoa. So its real food just blended, Add some a cup of egg whites to it and you got yourself a meal consisting of oats, quinoa, egg whites and whey protein.
I used that for a long time until i started making my own, its much cheaper. I buy a massive thing of oats, blend it all up into powder and put it into an old protein container, then ill mix a cup of that with 10 egg whites, 1.5-2 cups of either 2% or whole milk and 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder just for flavor and I got myself a 900 calorie "shake" but in reality its just whole food blended up, its got 90g of protein, 85g carbs 24g of fat. Protein may be a little high but whatever, on 20g is coming from protein powder, the other 70g is coming from some of the best sources of whole food. And its much cheaper to do it this way. And you can adjust the macros if you want to, if you wnat less fat use less milk or water, if you want less protein take out some egg whites or the protein powder, if you want less carbs use less oats etc. This is the bets part of making your own, you can tailor it to your needs. You can also add blueberrys, bananas, peanut butter etc. All you need is a blender.
Don;t forget the shit load of fat they add to it as well, the Mass gainer I tried once without thinking since it was on sale had over 30% daily fat and not the good kind either. I call weight gainers fat gainers for that reason.
Ya when i first started lifting way back when i would eat 3 meals per day and have 3 mass gainers a day, all it did was make me fat lol. The weight gainers if i drank a full serving with milk was 1700 calories, about 60g of protein and 254g of carbs all from dextrose and other crap. "serious mass" they should call it serious fat.
to be fair, they weren't kidding when they say "mass gainer." Just not the mass we want lol.
ManimalKingPeanut butter and bananas and milk.
If you're talking about a pre-packaged weight gainer, then you're wasting your money. Mainly full of sugar, bad carbs and fats. Garbage in, garbage out.
X2... i go for extra calories when i can afford it...
Food!
Weight gainers...tzz...from all the supps out there which are a waste of money, they are at the top.
You can easily make your own "weight gainer" blend.
- Way more cheaper
- Probably better ingredients
- Better Taste
- Benefits of vitamins+minerals
and so much more. Just a god damn waste.
I'll build off of this in the way of pre-workouts. A cup of black coffee and 500mgs of aspirin result in the best "pre-workout" Ive used to date...the supplement industry wants your money, holographic labels amount to shit...
Did you really mean 500mg of aspirin? That's dangerous from a medical perspective man, be careful.
Had to look again at the bottle...my mistake one pill is 325mgs.
1 full sized aspirin. Got it. No worries. I don't intend to preach, just inform and educate..
Weigh the pros and cons brother. A baby aspirin (81mg) would probably do you just fine. Even a baby aspirin will prolong your natural coagulation and increase your risk of bleeding. A full sized aspirin is really only given when someone is having a heart attack. God forbid you ever fall and hit your head, or in an accident of some sort, it could quickly escalate to something severe if your body is not clotting properly.
... Something to think about. I know everyone in the community wants to keep you around for as long as possible. We all value your contributions. And I'm sure your family and loved ones feel the same.
I agree, coffee really is the best pre workout, never added aspirin though, whats the theory behind that?
Just as a mild pain killer...I can push harder and go longer.
Its a great thought, only problem is pain is masked by the aspirin, you could hurt yourself harder then you feel at the time and after it wears off you wish you never took it. I speak from experience on that one, I was masking tendon pain with aspirin until I went to the doctor and saw the xrays of what I was doing to myself.
I'll keep this in mind. Thanks brother
Yep! Same for me! Way cheaper to build his own and much more control about what you really need
They throw in proprietary blends which tell us nothing of the amounts of each ingredient they consist of. Sure after paying 40 50 60 bucks our nature is to be pumped up! We injest it and "believe" it is performing. Real food performs, if powders were natural they'd be in the wild, fkn powder puffin eachother...dont know how else to put it...
Proprietary blend means put it back on the shelf. Substitute proprietary with cheap garbage and then you know what is in there.
Yes but mystery powder does make life more exciting! ;-)
Gives a good placebo effect.
This shit must be so good they have to keep amounts of the ingredients top secret
Absolutely agree
I have been known to use the blender.... 8 oz chicken breast, half a can of kidney beans or mixed veggies, and a little salt. I don't think it counts as a gainer though. Kinda tastes like a funky chicken soup.
1 1/2 cups of egg whites, 1 cup oatmeal, 2 tbs peanut butter ( or 2 tbs olive oil ), and 1 scoop whey, and add water as you like....that's what I make myself. If it's already made, the only one I've tried is ON Serious Mass.
RustyhookerViking shake
I like the idea, i think a gainer is more cost effective, becuase in order to have something like this will need 10lb whey each month ( 2- 2 scoop servings, 1 post workout and 1 before bed or whenever) is over $100, plus extra oats and milk. when you can get a months supply gainer, all in one for $70
IveGotDecaDicknutra bio Extreme Mass
I love the nutra bio brand protein
My favorite weight gainer is an all you can eat buffet! For a shake, I just double up on my gold standard whey, throw in some peanut butter, a banana, a whole egg, a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream, and pulverize in a blender. Sweeten with honey or agave nectar, or throw a Snickers in it. Why? Because a bunch of calories in addition to my food for shuttling carbs and proteins to where they need to be and because it tastes great.
Nice recipe right there brother

Mass Gainz. I like the Ingredients list. Basic. No unnecessary fillers. Tastes good. Price isn't terrible either. It was recommended to me on here, and I've since Recommended it to a lot of guys.
Gotta agree w the guys below though. I've since switched to whole foods and once you get used to putting it down it's not so bad. I havent used mass gainer in over a year.
ill check it out!
TronJust food and more food man. I don't believe any of those powders have half the shit they say they do in them.
Never tried a weight gainer. Gaining was never a problem. It's this damn cutting thats a problem lol. Anyhow my favorite weight gaining food is homemade lasagna with ground turkey and ground beef. All the beautiful calories carbs and protein you could ask for!
I dont like weight gainers, only protein powders as the weight gainers put on me a different kind of ugly weight
