Experience with ruptured bicep

ad

Got my cast off on my way to getting back to the gym in around 6-8 weeks. Doc said surgery went great and I should be able to heal back to 100 percent in time. This is great news for me.

I tore my distal bicep of the bone last year during a muay thai match up . The promoter only had one size arm bands for all the fighters and it was a medium and even after cutting weight to 86kg it took 2 people to tie it on , each jab was causing a hack saw effect and at some point the bicep severed. It wasnt till well after the fight when I was putting some equipment away that I looked down to see my left arm was flat and the bicep had recoiled under my armpit . Fast forward a week , had surgery and because the tendon had lost 2 inches they had to drill through the forearm to anchor the thing back in place , then the bicep went over the top. Believe it or not but I had no pain during the whole process. It took me around 8 months to get the confidence to lift heavy again but when I do I get a dull pain where the titanium anchor is, aside from that im back at full strength.

The wife has said to me many times now " no brain no pain " , but seriously i have broken my nose twice and ankle once and I have to say the ankle would have been the worse but still not extreme. The specialist says its something about my nerve endings being desensitized that is why my pain threshold is a little higher , im probably over simplifying it.

I have no doubt your surgeon would have told you already but I would recommend from here on out to really stretch out the arm each and every time before any push/pull workout . Like i mentioned above I was really hesitant of going heavy for quite a while for fear of it snapping again ( cant repair it twice apparently) but I slowly rehabbed it with smith machines and very light concentrated DB curls on the preacher bench and cable kick backs to tie in the triceps , sure enough I came right with total recovery of strength . Good luck bro , you'll be back in action in no time.

Fkn gory or what!!.......... i can only imagine how the pain felt when it happened bro, you must take it steady for a good while bro............ i know another guy he is actually a British Pro BB who completely snapped a bicep tendon and they put it back together with a fish hook type set up.

complete tear my bicep became part of my shoulder

I saw that happen with my own eyes last year with a young lad at the gym, he was doing seated preacher curls, not too heavy actually.. when this fkn scream let out and he fell to the deck holding his arm, he ran over and it was like slow motion watching the whole outer head slip up into his delt... unbelievable! i couldnt believe my eyes was so strange to watch...... he was screaming his bollocks off even while they put him in the ambulance.......... never seen him since.

Makes my umbilical hernia op yesterday feel like a zit!!....... lol
