Anyone ever been to Japan?
ad
A couple years ago I made friends with belt holding kickboxing champion from Japan and his european buddy (purposely being vague) Anyway I have had a standing invite to go over there and hang out with them dudes. I am seriously considering it for maybe this summer. I also have a friend on Okinawa as well that I would really love to visit with. Just curious if any of you have been over there and your thoughts.

Okinawa, Japan! Camp Schwab bitches! Oki is beautiful, but mainland Japan is nicer! Korea is a blast too.
#Boom
Definitely go brother Pale! You only live once and from what members have said it appears to be an enchanting and magical place! Mark Twain said "travel is the best education". You may regret not doing so when you're old like me! Lol
Be spontaneous and have a memorable time with your darling wife!
Do it bro, to travel is to live.
I've never been to Japan but I'd like to just because I'm never seen a wild Kangaroo or Koala bear.
Just say shit like:
G'day mate!
And
Put Another shrimp on the Barbie!
Ah hell yeah. They will totally accept you.
LMAO!
Bit of a tangent, but anyone else keep getting cravings for sushi since Pale posted this?
The wife and I are going tomorrow night. I will be ordering up the boat!
just went a few months back best place i ever been and been most place in asia.. the hospitality is great and such honorable race. you can leave your luggage on the side walk for a few hrs and come back to it will still be there. also you don't go during the summer months them mosquito will get you fat fuckers its hotter there then thailand and cambodia no really its stupid hot. your gonna be walking a lot. all over japan has badet toilets very very clean people, shit just look at there airport near tokyo. you should really go for at least 2weeks. luckily for me i have very well known japenese business friends threw the gf side.... also go to the robot restaurant lol your gonna blow your fucking mind.... you can latterly buy a drink and have a handful of coins and they will only take exact amounts. i love japan i love the people the food A5 wagyu steak with unroasted sesami oil.
but anyways do it brother its fun! fyi going back again next septmember and is the best time to go.
in 1972...
Women came in and provided towels in the "public" baths. You wash before you soak in the scalding water.
hotel rooms had futon mats on the floors for beds.
don't put your lips on the ladles at public drinking fountains.
restaurants have plastic models that looks like the food on the menu... just point to what you want to order.
Don't run out of deer food at Nara Park in the city of Nara.
Visit as many temples as you can.
Visit the reclining Buddha.
Ride the bullet train past mount fuji.
Don't fly a C-130 to get there... The engines tend to catch on fire.
The easy way to remember how to say "your welcome" in Japanese "don't touch the mustache" (dou itashimashite)
I'm not allowed to leave the house unattended :/
I've gone for work numerous times. I loved it. Riding the bullet trains are a blast, going to see some of the historic architecture is cool, and I'm very much a techie and video game nerd so my head was in full spin there. A little bit of culture shock but not too much. Everyone is very respectful and takes a lot of pride in their work, just a nice place. I'm hoping to get a chance to head back this year.
I have personally been weeks at a time on business. The culture shock alone is truly amazing. The food is not like it is in the states. The woman will wait on you hand and foot. If you want to site see etc. reach out to me. But you need to go there!
Funny story I have to share is this one. I got a wild kick out of this one.
I landed and wanted to grab a snack before snagging my my cab to my hotel then lunch with a buyer i was dealing with. I sat down in the airport and ordered a simple PB&J. Remind you this was a restaurant. To make the story short and sweet when the waiter returned I have a Peanutbutter sandwich on wheat bread with parts or squares of jelly fish on it. Completely blew my mind. Needless to say i left with a culture shock and a empty belly!
LOL. At least I am a Sushi fanatic. They eat horse meat and all kinds of stuff that is weird to us. But I am all about giving something a try. Thanks for sharing with us bro.
If its high in protein, low in fat I'm munching it lol
AnonHorse meat!!!!!
Arrg uhhhhh man
You eat dogs and shit like that too lol
Dogs? Not if I knew it was. Horse meat tho is different. Many countries consider horse a delicacy, very few consider dog to be food.
AnonYou ever notice that chicken in these Chinese restaurant don't look like any chicken I usu eat
That's a damn cat or a dog I think
Lmao
They are out there bro there places out there that eat cats dogs and rats too.... And call it a delicacy I call it it crazy... Or real damn hungry
But back to the topic... If I had a chance to go to Japan my ass would be gone bro... I hear that place is awesome
Nothing wrong with a little sweet and sour chihuahua every now and then...ha ha
AnonLol
I know it, I am really interested in going as well. I just need to figure out how I can balance everything and make it happen. Truthfully I always feel weird about imposing on friends too. But I know they are in sincere.
go to the fish market early in the morning. if your eating sushi there you can't share lol.
Food is always fresh Esp. with street vendors. They will kill a chicken and fry it fresh within 20 mins! More than welcome!
I guess Ron of Japan doesn't count... I'd love to go. Take the opportunity while it's there, you only live once
go .. do it ..
DeathstrokeGo!!!! Before i die i will visit Japan or die going! Lol! Sounds awesome bro! Especially hanging with Martial Artists!
Went to the world championships there when I still competed in martial arts 12 years ago. As I recall I saw a lot of the floor and spent considerable time scraping myself off of it
also been more recently 2010/2011 on business, but both were fly in, meeting, dinner, fly out so saw very little.
Amazing place, very likeable respectful people too. Loved the food, everything incredibly fresh. Culturally very different but a place everyone should see if they have the opportunity.
Side note - Standard beds are smaller lol! Not good for many of us with bigger frames!
I think I may have issues with the beds as well, lol. I suppose I should at least start brushing up on some basic Japanese words and phrases.
You'll find a huge percentage speak perfect English. Out of respect, I would suggest you do learn some basic stuff like "please", "thank you" and "where's my beer" etc.
Of course. Every country I have visited I try to learn some basics. Even when you flub it up they seem to appreciate you trying.
They're very keen on respect and manners, something I wholeheartedly agree with. I always do the same, I can't stand it when you get English people on holiday saying things slowly and loudly thinking other countries should all speak our language.
I am even more insulted that the rest of the world speaks english yet here in America we only passively teach our children other languages. In my opinion that is one of the biggest failings of our educational system in this country. All of us should be at very least bilingual.
