Heart attacks and AAS
Today i heard that a guy that was always at the gym had a heart attack 5 weeks ago. I was wondering why I hadnt seen him in a while. He was a big dude. I suspected he was using gear but i wasnt going to ask lol. He'd crush me. The guy that told me said he was on stuff but said the heart attack was from hereditary conditions. He was in his 40s
Now im left wondering if that is just denial and its because of the gear or it was just an underlying condition that went unnoticed and unrelated to gear.
It freaked me out for sure. My mom and grandfather (her father) had heart attacks at young ages.
I know we recently had a member here that had one. Im wondering how common this is with the bigger guys or heavy users. I wish i had the balls to talk to him if i see him again. Im curious to see what he was on and if he kept up with lab work. Either way i hope he has a speedy and full recovery. He was always there with his wife so i know they are tight and he has a grest women taking care of him.

WithdrawlHere are my main concerns with long term steroid use that you MUST keep in check if you plan on doing this for a long long time. Blood pressure is one. High BP takes its toll on you over the years. Not just on your heart but kidneys and other organs. Oral steroid use is another risk factor because of how hard it is on your liver over time. Toxic liver means more toxins in your whole body. I myself am seriously considering not using any orals or injectable methylated steroids anymore. Cholesterol is another one that can be elevated with steroid use and even brought down too low by keeping your estrogen too low. Both have long term risks. The other is high RBC as was mentioned. Pumping thick blood over years and years raises the risks of heart attack and stroke. Combine all theses three long term and you could potentially shorten your life. Cycling responsibly is the best way to do it and eventually reach a point where you say enough is enough and be happy with where you are and call it good. Then you have guys like me that just never want to come off. We may pay for it down the road without proper precautions. And even with precautions we're still upping our risk factors.
Anonconsider this for a moment... if your RBC's increase and we know that RBC count does go up with aas use, your blood is thicker and it increases the clotting .. which increases the risk of strokes, doesn't it make sense that making your heart work harder to push thicker blood through the system is somewhat of a risk FACTOR for heart problems ... I m not saying that one will have a heart attack or stroke just that you do take a hit on the risk scale if you do not mind your labs. I have a mitral valve prolapse that tends to act up when I run certain compounds like eq. I pay very close attention to what my body is telling me. The key is to be smart about things.
I'm probably the poster child for coronary artery disease. I am a heavy AAS user. About 7 years ago I checked myself into the ER complaining of excruciating jaw pain. I have never even had a cavity so I knew it wasn't a dental problem. My LAD artery that supplies blood to the left ventricle was 85% blocked and they did an emergency angioplasty and placed a stent to keep it open. Out of all the possible coronary artery occlusions that is the only one that is always fatal and is known as the "widow maker." I was then told that there were lesions all throughout my coronary arteries but that they were too "distal" and couldn't be repaired and that I should get myself on a transplant list. This was in New York. I love bodybuilding and I'm stubborn. I got a second opinion from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. One night at Hopkins - 5 more stents placed - 98% of the circulation restored - no restrictions. I'm on cholesterol medication - while steroids do adversely affect lipids - it seems to be manageable. My dad passed away of a heart attack suddenly at 53. All I can say is - don't ignore you're labs and if you have any family history - watch it closely. Should I continue to use AAS? Well, probably not. But, until my cardiologist tells me of a new problem, I"m not gonna change. Did AAS cause the lesions to begin with? No one knows for sure.
I havent had labs but one thing is for sure. Tren gives me lots of heart pain. Especially tren-e
I agree with Rusy Hooker. Some steroids will raise the bad cholesterol, and a bad diet makes it worse. I honestly believe steroids will not kill you, it's a different between use and abuse. Heriditary heart problems cant be blamed on steroids.
I think its safe to say if you have a genetic predisposition to heart disease then steroids.. especially certain steroids.. will speed up the process just like mpb and other side effects.. if this type of thing makes you uncomfortable then eat healthy and stay on top of blood work
Absolutely. I am genetically predispose to this type of thing. Im also not a 250# plus guy and never will be. I dont want to be. My goals are to look good and feel better. Never will i not run labs ot monitor blood pressure.
RustyhookerSome roids raise the bad cholesterol. Winny is one of em. Combined with genetic predisposition and unhealthy eating habits....anything is possible.
I honestly believe heart issues are genetic or caused by diuretic and narcotic abuse. Hormones by themselves to cause one's heart to just give out. Steroid users get heart attacks or die sometimes, but its not the steroids that are doing the killing.
He was a big guy. Was he overweight? His size might have contributed to his heart attack, but what does that have to do with gear? Steroids may have indirectly caused his heart attack, but there are thousands of other things that could've caused it. Stop being a don hooton and scaring people.
Epic Don Hooton bashing my bro...who am i "my son committed suicide bc of steroids"...wrong again donny boy he just couldnt stand his butt chugging annoying dad lol...but yeah heart attacks are some what based on genetics health etc and if you dont have your cholesterol in check steroids can lead to increased plack but then again alcohol is hell on your liver and so is Tylenol all about choices and getting to the doc and getting checked out sometimes bros...
Lol I'm not trying to scare anyone it's called a discussion to hear others people's thoughts and opinions. It's how we help educate ourselves. Whether you believe it or not that's your choice but non of us can say for certain which means it's up for debate... And read my post below. I said I don't believe they are directly linked
I get what you're saying. But talking about heart attacks on a steroid forum does carry a certain tone. You are linking the two by starting the thread.
Are they connected? I don't know. Maybe AAS does cause heart attacks. But there's just as good of a chance they don't. I just don't want to perpetuate this image of steroids as a bad drug that kills people. The last thing we need is more half-truths and lies about gear. Its already misunderstood.
But I understand your reasoning. Its always good to have open discussion about these things. It is relevant regardless of whether or not gear causes heart attacks.
I hear ya bro. I agree that It does carry a certain tone but let's face it, we are all her using the gear so fear is not really a concern of ours lol.
I def don't want to spread lies or fear. Shit aas has changed me in many ways so I'm the last person that would say this drug is evil. Opiates,.... now that shit is evil.
Yeah definitely something to be aware of, cant just bury your head in the sand as some of us start to geta little longer in the tooth.
Ive had the odd heart flutter feeling, only lasts a couple of seconds and comes very randomly, not that I feel it's anything serious but I'm gonna mention it when I'm at docs as ive an appointment soon already.
This is no bullshit. One time I was on a heavy cycle(for me) and in the middle of it my heart just randomly started fluttering. This went on for about a week and then I went and got a supplement that's helps your heart it took a couple weeks but it stopped and it hasn't fluttered in a couple years. I don't recommend to do what I did though. Anybody experiencing heart issues should go to the ER or get to your doc as soon as you can. I know my heart started doing that because of juice and I'm sure that his issues were probably caused by steroid use weather or not heart attacks are hereditary or not.
Were you using cq10? I wish there was more research on this subject. I personally believe aas does not directly cause hesrt attack but i dont think there is any denying they can create issues that ultimately contribute to having one. Thats why i wish i knew if this guy did regular blood work or if he was blasting and cruising unmonitored
My dad died of a heart attack at 55 years young$ never touched steroids and never had previous problems. I will tell ya this!!!! You can live life in a BUBBLE or you can live life to the fullest !!!!! The end result is un avoidable ????? when its your time its your time
I agree with that to a point. If you knew your next cycle would kill you, would you still run it?
I wouldnt. However we dont have that luxury so we try to be safe about it and if something isnt right we should stop and reasses rather then push it until we are in our grave. Juice and looking and feeling good is great but not worth losing life over it
If im on my next cycle and it kills me ??? So be it !!!! In life we deserve to be happy and whatever it is we ( choose ) & i dont want to die but im not scared EiTHER !!!!!
Come on bro. This aint the movies. How old are you? There is a lot more to life than aas and bodybuilding. I agree that we need to live life to the fullest but we cqn still be mindful of it instead of taking the "if i die, i die " attitude. If you are an adrenalin junkie jumping off buildings and shit then thats one thing but with aas..no way. To each his own i guess. I cant pretend to know how you feel but im not buying it. Do you compete?
Brave words. But that is all they are. Also damn selfish if you have a family. I guess we come at this from a different mindset.
It sucks we do not have hard data to prove or disprove correlation with AAS use. Does it hurt or does it help? I would imagine full on blind abuse hurts.
its more common now then ever...even this year there have been around 15 deaths from heart / renal issues in the pro ranks
it all catches up with you......abuse the substance pay for it in time.
we are seeing a trend id say in that the current 35-40 year olds are dropping more so,....and you can probably tally that to the availability of steds via internet...and the bro culture of patting each other on the back for percieved achievments outside of reality!
naturally there are ppl with pre existing / genetic conditions.....but that may be few and far between?
