So I just found an interesting artical on the effects on weed and bodybuilders. Now this is a copy and paste post but I am placing the source at the bottom. This came off my FB app and the app doesn't give you a link. If I have violated and rules please let me know.
Marijuana is a controversial subject. While it is illegal to buy, sell or consume it, for many people it’s a part of everyday life. But what effect does marijuana have on bodybuilding?
Marijuana and Health
Before we get down to the main purpose of this article, the first thing to say is that marijuana is still illegal. This article is not intended to promote the use of any illegal or elicit substances.
Despite marijuana being illegal, many people smoke it on a daily basis. Also known as cannabis, weed or pot, most people use it for getting high as a method of relaxation. While there certainly isn’t the stigma attached to it that there may be for class A drugs like heroin or cocaine, marijuana still has side effects that will affect the way your body works.
Marijuana comes from the cannabis plant. There are nearly 500 different components in cannabis, but only one active ingredient – delta-9-THC, or THC for short, which affects your nerve receptors and brain cells. THC is most effectively absorbed when you smoke marijuana, and has a fairly rapid effect. It circulates fairly quickly around the body, but in most cases will leave your system within five days, depending on the amount you ingest. Although with chronic users, THC is more likely to be stored in fat tissue around your body, which can take anything from 10 to 20 days to leave your system.
Marijuana is typically used for relaxation purposes and to heighten your senses of pleasure.
You become more focused on certain stimuli, which increases your appreciation and enjoyment of food, sex and music. It’s not unlike the feeling of being mildly drunk.
Weed has been associated with decreased reaction times, increasing feelings or paranoia and nervousness and impairing short term memory.
The effects of marijuana do vary greatly from person to person. One individual may find they get all the side effects of smoking weed to a high degree and become addicted to it, whereas someone else may find it does little for them or that they can smoke it infrequently, enjoy the experience and have a very relaxed attitude towards the drug, not really feeling any reliance on it whatsoever.
Clearly, while these effects aren’t bodybuilding specific, bodybuilders too function in the same way as those who don’t train. A bodybuilder who regularly smokes pot will find themselves susceptible to potential short term memory loss, decreased reaction times and a heightened sense of paranoia and anxiety, which not only effect your general health, but have a knock on effect to performance too. If you become reliant on the drug, you’re far more likely to skip sessions and under-perform in the gym.
But there are more serious side effects that can interfere with your future in bodybuilding.
Marijuana And Bodybuilding Issues
Testosterone
Testosterone is the main hormone involved in building muscle and shredding fat. Bodybuilders always want relatively high levels of testosterone to maximize performance and aesthetics, hence why many eat lots of red meat and eggs, which naturally boost testosterone, take testosterone boosting supplements, or rely on anabolic steroids, which artificially increase your levels of testosterone.
The results from studies done regarding marijuana use and testosterone levels are a little confusing – some seem to show a correlation with increased use of marijuana and decreased testosterone levels, while others show little effect, if any at all.
In animal studies, the results have been fairly clear – ingesting marijuana inhibits the production of testosterone and has a negative impact on Luteinizing hormone (LH) which is released by the pituitary gland and aids in synthesizing testosterone to help with building muscle.One study did show a negative effect on testosterone from smoking just one joint, however, participants’ hormone levels were back to normal within 24 hours, showing that infrequent consumption has little to no effect whatsoever.
Metabolism
Your metabolism relates to the speed at which your body digests and uses calories. A high metabolism means you digest food quickly and have a high rate of energy turnover from the food you eat. In basic terms it means you can eat more calories and still maintain your weight. A slow metabolism often requires you to have to severely cut calories to burn fat.Ideally, bodybuilders want a high metabolism, as this means when cutting for competitions they can eat more food and still lose fat quickly, and they can eat more still when building muscle in the off season.
Smoking marijuana has been shown to lower thyroid hormones in the blood, although no study has ever shown it to have an impact on thyroid function. This potentially means that your metabolism may be lowered slightly in the short term when using marijuana, but there are unlikely to be any long lasting ill effects.
Growth Hormone
Marijuana has, though, shown to impact your body’s production of growth hormone. Growth hormone has a similar significance as testosterone, and you want high levels of it to build muscle mass. Again, you can increase growth hormone through your diet and training, and also take supplements or ergogenic performance aids to get an increased growth hormone profile. Marijuana can lower your growth hormone levels, which will temporarily impact your muscle growth and recovery rate.
Calories
Weed doesn’t have calories, so in that respect, it doesn’t have a role in weight loss or weight gain. However, an extremely common side effect when smoking marijuana, even after just a few puffs on a joint is “The Munchies”. This relates back to the increased feelings of pleasure and relaxation that marijuana causes. Quite often you’ll find yourself starving hungry, andwill eat literally anything – most likely junk food. Bodybuilders know that this has a massive impact on health, performance and body composition.If you smoke weed regularly, and always end the night with a burger, some candy or fries, chances are you’ll massively over consume calories, which will have severely detrimental effects on your physique.
Mental Focus
As discussed, pot will make you feel more relaxed. While you may think that this is a good thing, as it reduces your levels of stress and helps you chill out, it can have the opposite effect. To train hard, you need a certain amount of aggression every time you step in the gym. Many bodybuilders use training as an opportunity to let out some tension they might be feeling from work or family life, but if you’re always really chilled out, you’ll struggle to find that motivation to hit the weights.
Cardiovascular Function
This may be more of an issue for endurance athletes, but marijuana can impair your cardio-respiratory function, by slowing down your blood flow and heart rate, meaning it takes longer for oxygen to get round your body. Bodybuilders may not be particularly worried about this. But weight training does involve a cardio element. A really tough set of 20 back squats, or a set of rest-pause deadlifts will leave even the fittest bodybuilder gasping for air. If your cardio function is impaired, you won’t be able to train nearly as hard.Marijuana may not have an all out disastrous effect on your bodybuilding progress, but it certainly won’t help you either. Refrain from smoking weed, and you’ll certainly feel the benefits in the gym and in your physique.

The question of benefits and harms is determined by individual characteristics of the body and a sense of proportion, not by myths and prejudices. And even more so why is it a bad thing when [REDACTED] online weed [CENSORED] also appeared.
I have a love/hate relationship with marijuana. I love that it relaxes me and alleviates stress. It is also great when bulking due to increasing appetite. I don't like that negatively impacts energy levels, motivation, memory and sleep quality. Overall I find it too counterproductive for regular usage.

In my 20's I was very much a stoner. I would smoke everyday as long as I had it. One day reevaluated my life and wasn't happy. I attributed my lack of success to weed. I have been far happier since parting ways with it. I know leave it strictly for special occasions. The same goes for alcohol consumption.
Pretty much any kind of drug other than steroids is counterproductive for training IMO I think we run more than enough risks already doing what we do without adding further risks into the mix. People who take coke regularly on a weekend together with gear are just asking for a heart attack, and get them.
I only started back with a little weed recently. More from a hobby perspective, growing.
If you use the right type of vapouriser, there is no major impact to the lungs. moderation is everything.
There are as many negatives as there are benefits with this stuff. But for me, the benefits to anxiety and sleep in the evenings has been good.
X2 about the anxiety...I had to experiment with a few different strains, finally found one that that wouldn’t excite the anxiety and I can still function

The info on this particular batch was 15.8.....so not a powerhouse but has worked well for me at small doses....the pain relief I get ( lower lumbar), outshines the narcotics bar none!..

Wish I could smoke everyday. But I can't smoke during summer season due to testing. But all winter long I'll be puffing. The sleep is unbelievable after a few tokes

It's randoms for work. I work seasonally so I don't get tested in the winter months

I don't usually smoke enough to bother the lungs. A couple pinches a night at the end of the night to relax
Tell you what. If anybody has trouble eating for gains pot will do it for sure.
Depending on the strain & sleeping too! Been sleeping really good lately with the “birthday cake“ strain! :0)
I’ve had some ice cream cake and wedding cake strains recently, been a great smoke

Use to smoke but kids forced me to grow up..My drug of choice is AAS.If one needs something more there are worse things than weed.When I did quit I coughed up black garbage for months..My breathing has improved and my thoughts are clearer and im not wasteing all that $$$ on pot..
smallguyI smoke every day. Usually once after my lift. One hit in the evening, and right before my last meal of the night. Whenever I tell people I smoke, they look at me and think Im lying. You would never know I smoked. I dont plan on doing it forever. But for now, it plays a good enough role in my life to keep it. One day, but not today lol..
I also read somewhere that the munchies come from the increased heart rate that thc give you. After you smoke, you feel super relaxed. But you will notice that your heart rate is slightly elevated. Meaning, your burning more calories sitting on your ass. Which leads to the theory munchies. Makes sense to me. I dont really get an extra craving or an appetite when Im relaxed. But when I smoke weed and my heart rate elevates a little, Ill eat every piece of food in the fridge. Boom.
I smoke when I get up before the gym, with pre workout and music I'm in the zone. Then I go home smoke then play basketball where I am in the zone again. Always been like that. Does not make me lazy makes me want to sink 3s all day. We all call it the zone before we play. You either feel it or you don't.
i havent smoked in years however my best cycles and gains were when i used to smoke right after the gym.Never looked better or felt better nothing was better then breaking my ass in the gym coming home and relaxing,however i had to stop had a terrorfying experence one night and never lit up again
AnonYea def MJ lowers testosterone levels but thats when you smoke more than a joint aday that explains the low sperm count. But MJ as a prework out is the best thing in the world hands down to bad i get drug tested while Im in med school if not ill be smokin everyday a bowl a day had me good

I smoke way too much , I even smoke before I work out but that's in conjunction with tren , clen, test prop and 5 scoops Jack3d . It helps control the insane libido as well .
Iv never touched a joint but those side effects describe me well, i think my mum must have smoked a thousand joints in her pregnancy lol...
i would like to challenge the users who say it helps them sleep and relax...to not use. just for a week or two.
you will flip out! you wont be able to sleep and you will realize you depend on it. ive seen it first hand. tons of friends state "im cuttin back" or im not gunna smoke but maybe once a month...lol yea right.
I agree. Maybe not after 2 weeks but ya smoking to everyday to not at all will be rough for a few days. But at the same time if you are smoking to decrease those problems, then of course it'll have that effect.
I have used it as a "personal medication" kind of like an experiment to compare it to xanax. It helped me relax, sleep, be happier, etc. is it the easy way out? Yes. But working a tough schedule for a bit is something that needs to be done. And so are roids (easy way out) right? Kind of like a boost ya know? But at one point I was so stressed, anxious, all the time, temper, etc that I felt I needed assistance for my everyday life.
Not got a clue on the subject... never even had a single blow of a spliff in my whole life... alcohol and steroids are the only drugs to ever enter my body and not had alcohol for fkn years now.... boring!.. so be it... this is who i am.

Above you will find the link of the post dated 07/09/2013. I do not see anywhere that A said this was fact or fiction nor did you state this was the bible of body building.. I truly love how defense those who think weed is the greatest thing since homemade ice cream get. The truth is... YOU CAN NOT PLACE FACT ON ANY ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE! In part due to the fact that you have no controls.... I'm sure I could find many articles to support and debunk any thing you claim an illegal substance can achieve. Every man to his own.. I found the article rather interesting, I can agree or disagree....I don't personally have time to go around and check GOOGLE FACTS on every GOD DAMN POST! BigBmajI didn't see anyone get too defensive. I just pointed out that the article was full of flaws. As I said I don't even use it. I have however devoted a huge amount of time researching it.
BigBmaj, why did you assume I was talking about you? I was only sayin... and I think it's wonderful that you are researching the subject it can be useful to those who choose to smoke and lift. Also, I am glad to see that you differentiated fact and flaw. One day in the near future once it is legal we will be able to have a more effective debate of the matter.
BigBmajIt's legal for me I have a card. They are easy to get. I just don't use it. I do support medical use and I've been working in the industry for years.

I have an autoimmune dieses that causes pain that most people choose to stay as doped up as they can get, I however choose to hit the gym, push through the pain and try to remember that by making myself as healthy as I can today.. how much better tomorrow will be..... I never said my position on medical use.. I've seen cases where I would completely agree with using anything and everything to make someone's life a little better.. and to be completely honest at some point I know I will be one of those people, will I do it... Hell yeah I will. In my eyes it's no different than choosing to take AAS it's to better a situation... However, if you are perfectly healthy with the body of a god, if you want to take the up most care of that body.. smoking marijuana isn't the way to do that.. smoking anything isn't the way to do that..
Also, with me... A will tell you it takes a lot and I mean a lot to get me to yell and at that point, shits about to get real.... Like your clothes are burning in the front yard real..

Bah... Bodybuilder version of Reefer Madness lol. I know quite a few guys in the gym that smoke on occasion, esp on cardio days. I was always more likely to work out longer if I was under the influence, but I would end up eating an entire roasted chicken lol. As for fast food- Once I started eating right about 5 yrs ago, I can't even stomach fast food anymore. Makes me feel like I've eaten flavored styrofoam dipped in a fryer. It appears that it is saying pot will make you act like 90% of America, which would entail yelling for someone to fetch the remote while your cheeseburger partially blocks your view of daytime TV.
