Basically, for me it brings one point that I missed, 'bent knees' for the soleus. I heard this bit of information the other day and as I don't have a seated calf raise machine, I'm not getting them anymore. Fact is, I never even realized that (truth, 10+ years of working out and I did not know) bent knees changed the effect of the calf extension.
Now, I have sad, 14.5 inch calves and as my upper body begins to fill out again, it is becoming very apparent. Now, I hit calves every day, but not been more than 50-60 extensions on any given day.
I'm going to give this article a go and see how we do, because if anyone's calves have room for an inch of growth, mine do.
I'm going to start with 30kg dumbbells on my knees and use them as seated calf raises and I'm going to perform the 100 standing heel raises whilst cooking my morning-afternoon meal each day. In the gym, I'm going to split my calf extensions up and double them, so 50 x straight legged and 50 x bent knee.
Let's see how it works, because this article elicits everything reasonable that I have heard of late and I think it is going to be a winner.

One thing that has really helped me was doing a good fascial stretching massage after the workout. You can youtube Parrillo and see how it is done. Very good at getting the blood flow moving into the area.
shirlsguyIf that helps, I'll give it a try, worse thing can happen is a good cool down.
shirlsguyWell, here is what I have taken from this thread, and it is working. Every day, I do the 100 each 6 count heel raises. Whether during sets or cooking, I make sure to get 10 x 10 - six count raises. In addition, I have upped my calf extensions to 100 each, one straight legged and one with bent knees. Also, weighted lunges two time per week. My first week has resulted in an explosion, adding 1/2 inch to the measurement, so that is 1/3 of my cycle goal accomplished. Clearly the rest of the weeks get more difficult, but proof that the above are working. Oh, and they are tennnnnnddddeeeeer! On fire!
Just for you, Bro!

shirlsguyA whole week and I just figured out I have been violated! I could laugh harder if this wasn't scripted around me! I hate to admit that I only today saw the toggle at the top says "Mobile/Computer" it has defaulted to Mobile and would not play..... doh! So, got to see it today... funny stuff.

My calves are the same size as my arms lol idk if thats a good or bad thing =/
17"
I think calves have a lot to do with genetics cause my friend does the same exercises I do but hes 250lbs and has 20" arms but his calves are smaller than mine lol
shirlsguyYou'll have to join the race with me and grrrl..... we're chasing each other across the 18" line. A bit sorry jumping into the Ladie's Lounge for competition, but ah well, we are what we are! See, 17" calves I could take on board... but sub-16 it is not on!
I'm using charts like the one in this link.... http://www.illpumpyouup.com/articles/symmetry-chart-for-bodybuilding.htm and calves need to be above 16" for my size. Your arms and calves are hitting, j223.... though I did think the piss-take below was a ROFL moment! We know the truth, don't worry.
Looks like my calves are oversized then but I need to hit 18 on arms!!
but I want 21 inch arms lol
shirlsguyNo laughs... I'm right with you. At my best ever, I was just approaching 19" and with this Deca cycle I am running, I am determined to approach again. EBC took me from 18" to just barely 16... all that cutting was difficult. A lot of fat burned, this time I'm doing it right. I'm guessing that 21" is going to be a HGH and IGF-1.... that's why I've been checking out your posts so much... you seem on the same road as me this season.
Still, 21" guns would look fucking stupid supported on 14.5" pigeon stix! Priorities for me, priorities!
Well I need to hit 19/20" first lol but some day I'll get to 21 !
for calves seated is pretty much worthless it's okay to do once in a while but standing is where its at. don't listen to that post you linked cuz its crap imo. the guys at the bottom of the article use SEO's.
Standing calf raises with alternating toes pointing in or out high reps full range of motion is what works for me
I recently started doing seated calf raises with dumbbells on my knees. The first time I did them,I got a muscle spasm in my calves.I feel it hits my calves better than a seated free weight machine.
shirlsguyI'll certainly give it a shot, I demand to get an increase this season. Thx
Bro you should have no problem! I mean you dropped like 5 pant sizes and won an EBC, getting your calves up to size should be a joke compared to your other achievements
shirlsguySmiles... thanx. Yes, it is a goal and I do believe in making goals happen.
BirmonHe edited his post so now my joke sucks
lol it still got a laugh out of me.
BirmonYou have 12 inch calves?
I had the same problem. My calves still improving thought
You can do seated calf raises in a smith machine. A piece of a 2X4 will help to get a better extension & i always bend my knees a slightly bit for a better tension. I do about 25-30 sets 5+ times a week.
