Falling asleep at the wheel

ad

Sometimes I wonder how the hell I'm still alive. Every day, especially on my commute from work I literally fall asleep, even if it's for a split second. I can feel my eyes barely open and I am usually alert enough to know it's happening. I have to carry snacks with me all the time because it helps keep me awake and focused on something.

Today, I legit passed out on the highway, I was so close to hitting the friggen guard rail it was ridiculous. Needless to say, I woke the fuck up instantly. I'm not even sure how I woke up to realize and catch what I was about to do but I'm thankful I did. That was a scary moment for sure!!! People behind me must have thought I was drunk.

Anyone else ever deal with this? How do you fight it

I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. Snored alot. Stopped breathing like 500 times a night. A sleep study was done with me hooked up to a monitor. ENT Doc recommended surgery to repair my pharnyx/uvula. After the procedure I snore less, sleep better. I actually get REMS type sleep, Began to dream again. Depression is hella better as well. Hadn't had a decent nights sleep for over 20 years. But yea, before it was hard to stay awake driving for me as well. Scary shit.

Just read you don't snore but the depression and lack of energy apply. You might think about seeing a doctor. The guy I saw was an ear, nose and throat doc.Good luck. Accidents will ruin your day.

Damn I'm glad I asked. I am going to talk to my doc at my upcoming physical, among other things. I would have never thought it would be a medical condition, in a way I still don't but if it's a possibility then it's worth looking into.

i've never felt the urge to fall asleep behind the wheel

are you driving in the middle of the night for long distances on an empty endless highway?

I do this same thing all the time! I try to roll the windows down, turn the radio on or talk on the phone... It's crazy, how I can fall alseep behind the wheel but can't sleep at night!

It's the white noise! Try sleeping with a fan on.

Actually, talking on the phone wakes me up. Problem is I hate talking on the phone. LOL.

I will try the fan tonight...

I have tried everything, coffee, 5 hour energy, red bull and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Polish, you think I don't think of that stuff? I obviously don't want it to happen, it just does. You might think there is no excuse but if you have never experienced it then you wouldn't understand. Anybody that falls asleep at the wheel doesn't want it to happen otherwise it wouldn't. It just happens and it happens fast, before you realize it. I'm not offended, everyone has a right to be pissed off, it pisses me off also. I don't want to die and I certainly don't want to hurt anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing that works is eating something.
