Those who know me already know for a fact I'm a paranoid motherfucker. I always watch over my shoulder an sleep with one eye open. So I've been really trippin hard on all the concerted DDOS attacks on every one of the top sources on here. I'm a member on two other sites and they aren't having a single issue like this. This is from what I gather is purely an Eroids incident.

So my wheels been turning and I just wanted to throw this out there.

Who stands to gain from attacking the tops sources and taking them offline and essentially excluding them from the rankings? IMO it's definitely a Source from right here on Eroids. So I started thinking really hard about who has enough money to pull this off. Who is so big that they can throw away thousands of dollars like it's nothing? For anyone who knows how expensive it is to execute a concerted DDOS on multiple sites simultaneously for days at a time? Seriously folks we are talking about a lot of fucking money here!

I won't say who I think it is.....
Anyone care to chime in?

please do not mention any source names we don't want to cast blame on anyone in particular. This is merely a speculative post

Using words like "Definitely" suggest you have solid proof. Speculation is not proof.
The person doing this is demanding $2000 from the victim. The source you think is doing that probably makes that in 4 hours or less, with or without eroids.

UPDATE: sources on eroids aren't the primary target either. Bitcoinstore owners received the same email.

Hahahahahaha, I love the last coupe sentences.

we'll never pay an extortion attempt but we'll gladly offer 5 grand to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of this person.

Just thinking out loud here----but it seems like in cases where there is a mass-DDOSS attack like this, the ENTIRE review section should be closed for a few days (the average period of a DDOSS)----with no rankings visible to anyone. Eroids has enough to offer that hiding the review section for a short time wouldn't do any major damage, since we are all very good at entertaining ourselves in the forums. This would ensure that the person or persons resposible for the attack would have gained no advatage, and would discourage future attacks as well. And lets be clear here-----this is being done to give somebody an advantage in some way. Besides, if the entire top 8 or ten are removed, then any veiwer who would happen along wouldn't really get an accurate picture of the highest rated sources.
Let me stress that this is nothing more than just a thought off the top of my head, and trust me, even my best thoughts aren't too bright, so hopefully BFG doesn't come in here and thump me for being stupid.

This is no bullshit and I have a valid example. Last night I passed along eroids to one of my friends for him to check out. He's always bought from a gym dealer/friend/whatever but wanted to check out online sources. He goes on eroids on his phone and pulls up the number one source. (The one that is right now) Go figure.

Well I don't know whether it is or not but I will say it would be a genius business move if so. It is corporate espionage the underground version. No court, cops, or any other regulation if I was running an illegal business and had the ways and means why not neutralize the competition. For the sources it is about money not a humanitarian effort. I am not saying that some aren't good people or generous to others but they are all in this to make money. At least I would hope so otherwise they would be complete morons to take such risk for any other reason. I am of course pissed because this effects my flow of gear but if it was an attack by another source it was a Michael Corleone move right out of the Godfather. But we should be careful not to speculate or cast dispersions without evidence because then we are doing the same damage to someone's reputation that may not deserve it.

hese sources have no DDoS protection what so ever on their websites

That is a misstatement if I ever heard one ..

j223's picture

This is what I think is what is happening.

He could simply be doing this to make money on his own. This happens with (illegal) online pharmacies all the time that have nothing to do with eroids.

Nitti's picture

eroids has pissed off a lot of ppl

How do you figure this is in any way eroids fault? The boss is responding to current events to protect the members interest. As a source falls off with these technical issues ,they get yanked. I think it's sensible. It isn't BFG's problem that these guys are under attack. His concern is this website and keeping it safe as possible.

j223's picture

I see what you are getting at but you never know man. There are some SMART hackers out there. It could very well be your average pimply faced warcraft computer nerd getting paid $200 by ANYONE to breach the security of a certain website.

I have no idea and am not suggesting anything other than maybe it's not some huge operation you are making it out to be.

It could easily be 2 or 3 (network security geniuses) sitting at their house and making a few hundred bucks to do the attacks. Anyone with the right knowledge can breach the security of a website or server, doesn't always mean it's a super expensive operation.

j223's picture

Absolutely. But it Is just as likely a small time hacker. Typically a ddos is just a trojan used to target one system and is flooded by hundreds or thousands of "attack traffic" which basically makes it impossible to target the source. Multiple fake IP's are used so tracking the origin is nearly impossible.

So an attack can be by one nerd sitting at home who hacks for fun while playing video games all day, OR it could be a huge operation of experienced and possibly educated network security experts.

there is no way to tell

It's clever speculation...but interesting food for thought. Who has the motive and capability? Hmmm....

I like what you did here, it's very interesting. Very speculative but very interesting. Is it possible? Absolutely. Hmm curious as to what everyone else thinks.

Edit: Also just looked at who's currently number one on both the stable and trending lists....very damn interesting.

Good point!!

Sent you a FR...I have some crazy ideas that prolly shouldn't be public but maybe you can see some merit in them lol
