+ 3 Why I Workout, How About You?

ad

I currently am 26 and in just ok shape at the moment I would say. I grew up with a mom who when she was younger would do local beauty pageants, she would put this image in my head of how important it is to be beautiful. My older sister was doing female figure shows, and I looked up to her and always wanted to do that one day. All my teenage years and early 20's I was struggling to lose weight. I went away to college and when I would come home for the holidays to visit my whole family would look at me in utter disgust. They would ask why I was not taking care of myself, Then to tell me to start working out, etc. At the time I stuck to strict diets, worked with personal trainers, and did everything under the sun to lose weight. I was so dedicated that I didn't even drink alcohol (yea, you got that right, a college girl who doesn't drink) I became depressed and became a bulimic. This went on for quite some time and I still was hardly losing weight. Finally it came to the point where I attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills, and some friends found me blacked out in my dorm room. They rushed me to the ER and they end up pumping my stomach.
After I awoke, I had to do counseling and talk to quit a few people. I started explaining my situation to the Dr.'s and they decided to run a lot of tests. The results end up coming in as I have "hypothyroidism." Basically I have a non-existing thyroid. They put me on T4 at 150 mcg a day and wow what a difference. It has been two years now and I have had the same physique you see in my profile. Recently I have took a real strong notice to women’s doing physique shows. They aren’t quit to muscular like a body builder, yes they aren’t stick figure like women in figure shows. I am shooting to be on the stage within the next two years. My mother keeps pushing me to do a figure show like my sister does. But at the end of the day, I want to have the physique I find attractive and what makes me happy. Thanks for listening!

Hi, I am Wedgequeen, and I am a moderately rehabilitated anorexic. We never really get completely "cured," but I have found that embracing fitness beats the hell out of trying to maintain 98 pounds, so good for you!

Remember to keep your goals as your own, and I wish you the very best of luck in everything. You got this.

I have always been fit...but never took nutrition and exercise THAT serious. Once my husband became OBSESSED with all things nutrition and training, it started to become habit for me. I love how we live now and couldn't imagine going back!
