Olympics chooses to drop Wrestling from 2020 event
So i woke up to some horrible news this morning. I found out that the IOC (International Olympic Committee) decided to drop wrestling from the list of events in 2020. I find this extremely bad for the Olympics for many reasons. Wrestling was one of the first original events in the Olympics. What is more competitive then being thrown in a a circle with someone the exact same weight as you? It is two men putting their blood, sweat, tears, and passion into that short match. Each person has the mindset that they want to break the other person down and that fight is what drives the sport. That same fight is in most of us on this website as we battle ourselves to get bigger and stronger daily. In todays world, as if we havent gone soft enough, we now have taken away one of the oldest sports known to man from the Olympics. Am i the only one who is outraged by the fact that they dropped wrestling and still have events like sailing and curling?

nope...you have reason to be outraged. I agree with you...an original event that has history tied to it as probably one of thee most original comps before the modern Olympics, in more ancient Greece days. Pretty gay.

I caught this news earlier today and was really puzzled as well. Wrestling is something that is primordial to the olympics like the 100 m dash. It is the essence of the olympics. Maybe the people who were suppose to advocate wrestling just didn't do a good job. From what I understand, the modern pentathlon, which in my opinion is a less deserving competition was saved because of an advocate who had connections to the IOC.
Yeah that was the main reason I read too. It's stupid that one person can have that much influence. It's interesting , sports nation on espn is doing a poll on their website and it lists all the sports and asks which should be dropped. Twenty percent of people chose the pentathlon , which out of 25 options was the clear favorite to be dropped by fans . Then they asked what sport would you lobby to add to the Olympics to replace wrestling, eighty percent of the people said they would choose to add wrestling back. It's frustrating to say the least
yea i think its ridiculous....drop curling. i love watching greco especially, one of fthe best events imo
