How do the pro's fix tendon injuries?
ad
I'm currently on my second (or maybe third) month of trying to rehab 3 injured tendons and to be honest it's been a progress stopping '3 steps forward 2 steps back' ####ing nightmare.
I know the pro's suffer from tendon problems, from normal tendonitis to ripping the tendon right off the bone. Which I'd assume would be career ending for someone who needs to lift such insane weights.
But sooner or later they're back on stage as big as ever.
How do the really big guys work through stuff like that?

tread-mOn a little lighter note aside of the poiint where surgery is needed...I have found turmeric to be quite healing with tendon issues. When I first began its use I had worked my way through a tendon issue in one arm, it had been a problem for some time. I lowered my weight in curls specifically and slowly worked my way back up and even though it was better I could not lift without that little tweek, could not get rid of it completely! So my wife is the supp guru in the house of Tread and told me to start using turmeric. I started with twice the daily dose if I remember right and within a week I was feeling improvement and then backed to a normal daily dose and in a couple weeks was back to lifting heavier with the tweek in the tendon almost gone. Not too long after it had become a non-issue. It works IMO because it had given me trouble for too long to just be a coincidense. As to your rehab, its a spice and can't hurt to try it. I suspect it will speed recovery and I would appreciate knowing your thoughts on it if you try it. BtW, as I have read more on it, it has many benefits including liver detox etc....many health benefits.
tread,
is there anything more "gear" related that is used for tendonitus? More intense from a ugl perhaps?
Tread I am real interested in this Turmeric. I cook so I know how to use it in the kitchen but not medicinally can you share a little? Do you make tea? Rub it on the affected area? Thank you "g"
tread-mSorry, I was not clear on it ....I use it as a supp and I believe my wife gets it from Swanson on the net where most of our 6000 supps are ordered! Lol i am looking for a bottle as we speak and I think she threw it out after putting it in this big ass suitcase thing we have that takes an entire drawer with labeled compartments. Mine come in a capsule though and I just take them daily now with everything else. On occasion as with all my supps I will not use them for a week or so thinking with any of them they may become less useful with 365 use. So I may use everything 4 weeks for example and skip a week..just my own little thing. Other than with my saw pallmetto prostate formula with beta-sitosterol for dht which I take daily 365 to help acne, prostate and conversion in general. Something else I supp as we all should IMO is glucosamine chondroitin for joint health. I had a bad knee for years and upon taking it for a while it went away and never returned...works for me very well.
Can seriously affect your BP turmeric. I actually had a 'falling over' episode on it when I took it to excess with a shoulder injury - first thing in a morning when getting out of bed. Just 'cos its a natural herb doesn't mean ir won't have sides. Just a heads up.
tread-mHmmmm...that I did not know. Although I have pretty much used it at normal levels. Did it lower your bp ? If so there may be a sweet spot for use there.
Thank you for the heads up. I am assuming it lowered your BP to an abnormal level?
Yep...literally scared me to death. GP said (this was one of the odd time he talked sense) that people have to be careful re stuff like this - just 'cos it isn't a chemical doesn't mean it won't have an effect. And I did take it to excess (several grams a day). Scared me that much (it was like I was drunk and couldn't get my balance) that I discontinued its use.
Awesome info I have golfers elbow that just won't get better. I can do hammer hands but a curl bar kills me. I'll try the supplement and get back to you.
Lets get a picture of your vitamin stash brother sounds epic.
tread-m"golfers elbow" wink...uh..yeah, me too, thats what it is! No homo
Ya no shit with all this gear coursing through me it might be slightly aggravated by jacking off twice a day! LOL no homo
Thanks for the replies, my injuries are pretty much healed now finally found that a combo of anti inflamms, high rep very low weight and regular massage was the key for me. I'm currently wondering how long i need to wait before I can slowly start adding weight to the lifts.
Interesting posts, in this situation i always feel like a guy who fixes his car at home in the street with a half dozen spanners and a hammer so I can't help wondering just what the professional mechanics with access to the latest tools and complex machenery would do.
With the epic stuff like chronic tears and detachments of the tendon I was always led to believe that surgery would never be able to get the tendon back to 100%, has that changed over the years?
Time and rehab is the only option, ultrasound works great with tendon problems as well, it helps repair the microtears in the tendons, if you try to get back into things to quickly you will do more damage and be off a longer period of time.
Take it you've tried all the usual ideas....ice, anti inflams, rest, massage, acupuncture, pain killers (not a cure but we've all been there) to fixing the weakness (tendon issues are typically a manifestation of a muscular imbalance nearby)?
I can sympathise fella. I ripped a bicep off the bone warming-up while dead-lifting (I was holding a conversation at the time and was 2 plates off my top weight....I was at 3 plates a side) in the early 90's. Wow, did that sting a touch!
Course of treatment depends on the condition? Tendonitis is an inflammatory condition which differs greatly from the structural damage of a tendon "ripped" off the bone. When a pro tears a tendon (complete rupture) usually they do surgery immediately. After surgery and rehab the athlete can usually be back in the gym at around six months but complete recovery is at around a year.
For tendonitis, working around the injury is difficult or sometimes impossible. Gentle stretching, anti-inflammatory medication (maybe even a cortisone shot), and cold pack applications done three times a day for 10 to 15 minutes.
Make sure you observe proper warm ups prior to lifting, and good form. Note any particular exercise that is a problem? And switch it out. Also watch for overtraining. Many injuries occur in the gym because guys are simply overtraining.
Good luck
