Always got the impression you had a resume to back it up. All around great look but those shoulders could block out the sun!

helloBrooklyn's picture

The last thing I’d ever want to be is a hypocrite. If I go around saying how great the strict standing press is for shoulder development (which I do), and if that’s all I do for my shoulders personally (which it is), then I’d better have some halfway decent delts!

Thank you

I tend to agree.

As I believe we all should be, ideally. In all aspects of life. Easier said than done, but it’s an admirable goal to have

Thanks

Finally starting to put a little polish on that physique you big bastard.

How’d that PL meet go? Mission accomplished or put on the back burner?

helloBrooklyn's picture

It’s kind of just happening by accident, really. Training the same way I’ve always been, just with heavier weights now. Who knew that getting stronger means looking better? As long as the diet is on point, of course. Lol

I did decent. Not as well as I’d hoped. Placed 2nd and qualified for nationals, but I wanted to win and break a record. I did neither. Come June I’ll try again… at nationals, with the big boys. The more pressure the better.

Thank you for asking

Bearded_muscle's picture

Hey man what kind of gratification would that be if you just shattered records right out of the gates. Much better to earn that shit the hard way, and much more to be proud of that way as well.

All the best brother... and plus two from the Beard!

Fucking large, awesome delts bro

helloBrooklyn's picture

I’m a big advocate of treating the standing barbell press as a primary movement. The benefits to the entire shoulder girdle as well as the trunk stabilizers are just too many to ignore. It’s one of the rare movements that pleases BOTH camps: The guys who care more about aesthetics, and the guys who care more about athleticism. It serves both masters, and builds some pretty decent shoulders and traps in the process!

Thank you

Riceeroni's picture

Damn. Your boulder shoulders have boulders as shoulders. Do you include much rear delt work into your training?

Also, you mentioned moderate protein, do you lean more towards the 2g per kg? Or 1g per pound?

helloBrooklyn's picture

Thanks! I don’t really do any isolation work. Overhead pressing, rows off the floor (Pendlay style), and weighted pull up and chin ups give my scapular retractors all they can handle, including the rear delts.

About .8 grams per pound.

Riceeroni's picture

Ah good 'ol pendlay rows, I remember the first time I ever saw someone do those. He had two briskets for traps. After this picture I think I'll add them back in. Thanks for the reminder!

helloBrooklyn's picture

I taped it at 19”! I see a lot of skinny kids (teenagers) doing neck curls and shit when they haven’t even pulled 5 plates off the floor yet. I’ve never done any direct neck work, getting strong on the big compound movements with good form will get most guys’ necks THICC just by accident. I keep telling them…

Thank you

I like this place and this community a lot. I should come around much more often. I do miss it

Half evil! I’m only about 200 lbs, but keeping leaner does help to appear larger than I actually am. Thank you

Jacked! ++

What does your diet look like at the moment?

Owes a Review × 1
helloBrooklyn's picture

Plant based. Lots of rice, beans, oats, white potatoes, chia, hemp, nuts, blueberries, bananas, and broccoli. Milk, Greek yogurt, and salmon as main protein sources. High carb, moderate protein, low fat

I’ve made a habit of staying in a strict deficit in the week and entering a significant surplus in the weekend. I suppose we can call it cheating, but it’s a strategy that I find works well for body composition as well as performance. It’s a bit “bro,” but I do think this stokes the metabolic process somewhat

Thank you

GrowMore's picture

Thanks for the detailed reply, I remember your first photo I asked you to put up and this has significant improvement! You walk the walk bro and a credit to this fourm for sure. Dense, thick and lean!
