Pfizer to test myostatin inhibitor in april 2015

ad

Pfizer releases drug to test in april to treat muscular dystrophy. Pharma companies tried many times before to create myo inhibitors in 2008 and 2012 but it failed to truly block myostatin and very little change was noted so they moved on. Now myostatin is supposedly a muscle limiting protein that prevents muscle growth and strength. People and animals born with myostatin deficienty are extremely muscular and strong and thats what prompted these pharma companies to venture into these drugs.

Isn't that what Follistatin does?

Yeah there are 2 rival companies trialing now. The one your talking about is trialing with injecting a virus carrying the follistatin gene to the muscle and pfizer drug is a more selective drug and its an antibody that targets myostatin. Pfizer drug looks more effective on paper...they perfected viagra so they might get this right.
