Stage Three, Game Plan

ad
Default - Use Group's defaults.

Earlier we discussed the topic of having a no holds bar personal assessment so now we will move right into creating a "Game Plane."
More on this to come as I collect my thoughts together.
I'm back and I will not spend to much time on this particular subject because it's pretty much cut and dry. In order to create a plan one must have, in essence of a BB show, the date and year of the show. If you know when you would like to compete then it's fairly easy to make goals that can help you arrive at that date. Give me a moment to chase a little rabbit trail; be realistic when choosing the show and the date it's on. If you are a beginner then it would make sense to do a local show that suits your level of experience. But don't get me wrong, if you are that good then don't let anything hold you back from playing with the bigger boys. Your first experience will shape your out look on competing and the goal is to embrace it not regret it. Okay back on track. So choose wisely what show you would like to do. Be mindful of it's location, if you need to purchase a license, and so on. Once all the bases are covered then we can get to the nuts and bolts of the prep.

I'm looking to compete in my first show in Aug 2014. I'm currently fluctuating between 236-238lbs at 6' tall. No idea on body fat but I don't think it's too high. I do carry extra weight around my midsection but I haven't been worried about it because luckily I can drop weight extremely fast.

I guess my question is where do I start? I've been thinking about continuing to bulk until Jan 2014 and then slowly shedding weight. I appreciate you guys helping us out.

Mate what you need to work out is what comp you are wanting to compete in. Then work back from there 20 weeks. Thats how long you should diet for. That gives you enough time strip the fat and fill up a bit. Better to come in early than rush towards the end.

I would love to help but you have to understand that I get lots of request like this and it is not easy to keep up with everyone. You should try to find someone at your gym that competes and that may give you one on one attention. Helping you on here is not easy and I don't have anything but what you gave to work with. If you guys could understand how hard it is to prepare one self try helping tens of guys. It's like learning how to ride a bike. Try your best to research by internet yourself first and then bring what you know to the table. If I get ten hands to hold all the time then I don't have time for myself. So do your homework and then compare notes with those who do the job. Don't expect it to handed to you on a silver platter. I say this as kind as I can say it. When I did my first show it was like having sex for the first time. I had to learn. No one was there to show me the way.

Phil, no worries bro. After reading my post I realize that I kinda got off topic. What I was really trying to get at was this...

Would you recommend me continuing to bulk for a while or should I go ahead and work on my body fat. I'm not a fat ass by any means....but I could stand to lose about 10 lbs.

Sorry for the ramble earlier.

No problem. It all depends on how much time you have till your show. Maybe if you get within 5 months of the date then yes start to land the aircraft gently. There is no need to jump the gun to soon. You will have time to suffer later. Enjoy your off season and try to gain as muscles as possible till then. It's a step by step process. It's easy to get ahead of yourself when you see guys like us but don't let your excitement turn into impatience.

I used to pick a comp at least 12 months out. That way you have time to bring up any lagging areas. It also gives you time to map out when the diet will start. Get all the gear needed well before hand. The more time you have to prepare the better prepared you will be. You also need to seriously consider the self assessment here, in regards to how fat you really are. This will dictate how long the diet should take. Dont get stuck in the hype of all you have to do is diet for 12 weeks, thats a crock of shit. I diet for 18-20 weeks and guys I am far from a fat prick. At worst I would be 11% BF. See if you diet well and come in a few weeks early then you can afford to eat up a little and fill out. What this also does is allows your skin to shrink and tighten up more. On top of this you can also experiment with your carb depeletion and carb loading. So you are not chancing it for the day of the comp. Lets face it who wants to diet down and blow it on comp day beacuse they didnt know how their body would react to the carbing up process. It all comes down to the 6 P's. Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. Thats part of my plan.

Very well put my friend. Couldn't have said it better myself. The more time you give yourself the better the experience will be. Sure if you hate having to say no to burgers and pizzas then yes it will be hard during the first portion of the planning. But a little aspect that will be mentioned is called "cheat meals" and that will be covered later.
