+ 8 New to this group, not to recovery
Hi fellas, I only recently made an account here after a couple years of lurking. This site is full of great info and seems like a good community. I’ve been sober from drugs and alcohol for 13 years in AA. My main thing back in the day was opiates and meth but I’d try just about anything you could drink, smoke, shoot or snort. I’m glad to see there are a bunch of other guys like me that have flipped the obsession with drugs and alcohol into an obsession with fitness and health. I don’t know what it is about ex-junkies but a lot of us end up getting really fit when we get sober and a lot of the ones that do end up using AAS. Maybe we’re just not afraid of needles! Anyway, nice to meet all of yall and thanks for having me as a member of this group.

"Just for Today: I will be vigilant, doing everything necessary to guard my recovery." = JFT NA meditation book January First.
Welcome~! We are glad you are here with us in Recovery Lounge.
You make great points.I always wanted to be Superman and I am not afraid of needles. I am Taurus, and one of the traits in my zodiac book says we have strong sense of body image. I am not really athletic, but I do understand the World appreciates men who look athletic even if I can't set records. I recently had bronchitis again for 2 weeks. I went to my gym 4 days in a row this week with pharma help (from usroids= Sus, Primo, and Var) and went from 3 pull-ups max on Saturday to 2 sets of 10 on Tuesday. Pull-ups are my judge of fitness. Cardio is improved too, but arthritis prevents me from doing anything but elliptical.
This is my life in Recovery, not the scared little lying junkie afraid of everything and who was high all the time. I never met an alcohol I didn't find some way to enjoy, and meth became an addiction first time I used it. NA continues to save my life.
New Years day '25 and I'm taking it easy. Thanks for reading this.
Oh yeah, the junkie to steroid pipeline is very real. I think it's just a natural fit for people that find drugs interesting. Anyway, hey dude.
Especially thinking back now to these guys I saw come into AA 150 lbs soaking wet and two years later they’re pushing 220 lbs shredded and hitting the gym six days a week it’s so fucking obvious but I was clueless back then. Even now the few guys irl that I’ve talked to about juicing are almost all sober alcoholics or addicts.
Its because when we do things we often become Obsessive about doing them - whether that be making sure we have enough drink in for the entire evening by 11pm or by becoming strong and muscular Lol Also, whether we were into drink or drugs the state it left us all in was one of utter destruction - often skeletal because we never ate either. The natural tendency first of all is to sort out how you look which is found in working out, then how you feel mentally and remaining strong minded and positive all of which can be found in lifting weights. Plus if you find the right gear you can feel better every single day purely by upregulating your hormones.
