You guys ever feel like your living a "to-do" list? Then, at times question if it's even your "to-do" list? I'm sorry I haven't been as active as I know I should be, but knowing your not the only one who feels or goes through some things, makes a big difference. Like some people will expect shit from me, or say something that has me questioning a decision or something I did, and persistently make it a point to refresh my memory, and in my head I'm just like fuck man, at least I'm still clean. This is not easy for anyone, and I was the worst of the damn worst, if it could be lost, I lost it. I just simply suffered enough. Inside and out. Maybe it's just because I had a such a "uplifting, everything you could possibly want out of a job kinda blessing" and I can say with 100% confidence, that I've never in my life been as proud of myself as I was the day I got that job. A few days later, someone rear ends me in the company truck and I'm ultimately let go over the matter. It was beyond deflating, defeating, draining. I did find out that I start doing drywall on the Navy base on Tuesday. So that's a plus. Its just with every set back or obstacle just about, I can see where as a result of my previous life and my priorities, I'm paying for it now. Idk if anyone on here is near Florida, but you can message if so, but days like this are harder to brush off.

Good job everyone staying clean and sober I just got 12 Year's in September….. I watched a bunch of people relapse this year , stopped going to meetings regularly because of it… started living my recovery thru them, but I do online meetings sooo I’m good I just , think, I need a new sponsor …. I think mine is headed towards a break down man….

I’ve been sober 13 years and have been through the same thing a few times. It seems like every year there’s a handful of guys that go back out and can’t get back in or overdose or kill themselves. One of the first guys I ever met in AA who really helped me in the beginning just committed suicide, and he didn’t even relapse first. I moved across the country a few years ago and never really got plugged in to the AA scene where I live now but I have a group of guys that I stay in contact with on a near-daily basis and use the big book when I can’t get one of them on the phone. If you’re like me the problem these days isn’t staying sober, it’s living life without creating any new wreckage I’ve got to deal with and for that I’ve got to have somebody that I’m actually accountable to. Keep your head up man, you’ll make it through.

Sometimes I think I had nothing to do with it. It was just time, and I got a gift from god. Crazy part about that is I’m not religious. I just followed how I felt I was being guided.

I find it Very upsetting both to see and hear about, even on here when you will never meet the person. I can tell when someone on here has relapsed, they will disappear from the site pretty much altogether and if they do post you can tell its not their sober character talking. I have often then PM'd them and found out I've been correct and try and talk them out of drinking. Sometimes it seems to help and others not but there is only so much you can do yourself, the effort has to come from the user in the end. Most upsetting time was when I began going to AA meetings and I became friends with this guy about 15 years older than me, we would text often and I'd go round to his place and chat about things. He was really back on a good path, seeing his daughter again and became a changed person. Then one night I sent him a jokey text and he took it totally the wrong way and got really nasty with me, knew then it was not at all like him. He went quiet and I saw nothing more of him for about 3 months and then I came out of an AA meeting with everyone and he was sat on a wall outside glaring at me. He came over in front of everyone drunk as a skunk and tried to show me up and it was so upsetting to see, was like looking at a different person and it was then I truly realised what an ugly person alcohol can turn people into. You don't see it yourself but to others its so apparent what you are doing. He basically lost everyone after that who was supporting him and I just became too wary of him and uncomfortable so we lost contact. I saw him 3 years later in the shop buying a load of whiskey looking on the verge of death, I wanted to speak to him and ask him how he was but he just acted so aggressive in that mindset I just left him be. Haven't seen him in years now.

Buddy take no notice of those whose criticize or are negative towards you, you are always gonna get these arseholes in life. Its nothing personal towards you even though it is at the time, they do it towards anyone they can pick fault with or are envious of in some way or another. The decent guys who you want to be friends with and spend time with will never be like this with you, they will let you be you and will want to be around you. I know when I was sober 24/7 and not hazed by alcohol anymore I would take more notice of what the shits would say to me, even the small things that I let go of in the past. Trust me mate, they are the real ones frustrated and unhappy with their lives - let them revel in their own hell Smile As for the new job incident, maybe it just wasn't meant to be in ways that maybe you will never know. Maybe it was Gods way of having your back and further down the road if you had stayed there you may of died in some kind of work accident - you just never know, Sliding Doors and all that. Continue on with your life as a good person that we know you are and always help others when you can, you will find that the good times will always come back to you in one way or another. I know you cannot always stop fate, but generally the Good things in life happen to the good people. Keep your head up Mate!! You are doing Great buddy Good

Man, it took me way too long to realize that the people who are fucking pricks and pissed off 24/7 are like that because they’re also miserable 24/7. Once I did I started to feel almost sorry for them because I realized that their problems are really of their own making. Makes it a lot easier to deal with them when I think about it that way. A lot of wisdom in this post.

Thanks man it means alot. I appreciate the kind words, I firmly believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe he was just showing me what I could have, if I keep down the better path of being sober. We will definitely find out in the future!! I hope you have a good week my friend!! Stay safe

Sober life is the only way bros! Fuck drugs!!!!!! We are better than that shit

PrimoPantani's picture

Man, we all go through it sometimes even in sobriety. The important thing for me is to have a group of guys that I can chill with and vent to about it. Fr sent

You definitely aren’t alone on that feeling. Atleast half the week I’m stuck feeling like I’m living out the bad karma from my previous life. There are many people who are a part of my life that still only see me for who I was. Then You get that feeling like you’re an imposter. Like you’re really not who you are. Bc when the walls come crashing down you revert to your old ways. Then you wonder.. is this who I really am? It can be a lonely world. I appreciate you telling us how you feel.

Yes, many days feel like a stagnant routine for me too.

You arent alone when it comes to unfair work enviroment. Ive lost a few jobs due to discrimination myself. Namely, being called the N word and fired for no good reason.

Like you, I too am sober. A happy (mostly) 5 years.

Congratulations on the drywall job. Are you attending any sober group meetings?

Cjames502's picture

Congrats on the 5 years my man. But yea I go to NA and AA meetings, more NA than AA but I still attend both. The sober living house I'm at, is pretty conveniently located to those meetings almost in every direction within 5 or 10 miles. I'm pretty excited to start working, and I actually like doing drywall, so looking forward to it
