What do you all use for tick and flea preventative?

Hi everyone,
I've been looking into safer alternatives for flea and tick prevention. I've been using nexgard spectra monthly and a dewormer twice a year. The reason for wanting to find a safer alternative is because I plan to use ivermectin for heartworm preventative as well as general worms (hence the total dewormer twice a year)
I've read ivermectin is safe but the other ingredients commonly used for fleas and ticks are harmful. My pup seems down for a few days after I give the nexgard spectra. Its done an amazing job at the slow kill method for heartworm and she is healthy. Any advice would be much appreciated and thanks.

We use a natural alternative: A combination of Tea Tree Oil at the base of the skull and down the spine. Also, we use plain old Dawn dish soap at bathtime. We've never had a problem with fleas or ticks. Never.
I have had good results with daily applications of cedar oil fir fleas and ticks
All of them will show things saying they're both safe/and not. No different from human use pharma. I spend the extra on a combo Heartguard/Flea/Tick/Worms med. SymparicaTrio. I can get it from Chewy, but when I get it from my Vet at a little more money, (If) my dog gets Heartworm, all the costs to fix it are covered, well worth it IMO. I think it's like $400/yr. Only other issue is if you piece it all together, no different than AAS, quality may/may not be an issue. With something like Heartworm, that's a hell of a gamble.
