Plates feeling heavier! Your thoughts
ad
So today which was supposed to be a cardio only day my eyes popped open at 545 am and I started thinking about lifting.. I work 12 hours so I usually do cardio only on these days. I lift on my days off work. So I jumped up slammed my pre-workout and headed to my basement where I haven't worked out in years. So anyway, My weights are old school Weider Olympic plates. I've had them forever. They aren't even standard 45,25, 10 they are 44,22,11.. Lol..So I started lifting and these mother fuckers felt way heavier then my gym weights! In the past I've noticed from gym to gym as well. So what's your thoughts on why one set of plates or dumbells could feel heavier if everything else is equal like rest , food etc?

i agree with the guys that alot is psychological but want to add an opinion of my own aswell....
1)sometimes weights do feel heavier due to the different sizes and shapes of the weights too....not being a geek but its to do with weight distribution and centre of gravity (got a Bsc In Physics if that helps
).
2) Thickness of barbells vary , some might make u get a better grip making u feel stronger, whilst other barbells have really thick diameters and makes you feel like the weights heavier
3) gym weights can sometimes feel abit lighter than the ones at home cos overtime they do wear down...i know that sounds like bs but even metal constantly being battered around deteriorates ever so slightly .
Thats my input, feel free to add or critisize
Your input is appreciated and I'd have to agree with you there has to be other factors involved. I noticed this effect in the gym when I change gyms and in my basement!
If I have a shitty night of sleep then I have a shitty day at the gym. Also a lot of times if I do a nice high carb cheat meal before a workout they tend to be some of the best for me
I eat a large sweet potato just before my "big" workout days, makes a lot of difference for me.
I'm with Rusty on this one, it's the environment. Like when there's attractive women around, amazing how much more I can lift ;)
RustyhookerThe mental edge. At the gym your adrenaline is pumping harder. Showing off what ya got. The atmosphere has like minded dudes feeding off your intensity. The grrr factor basically.
I like the grrr factor.
thats an excellent way to put it man. you nailed it
RustyhookerKinda like going to the fights. Folks that can't fight are suddenly king Kong. Lol!
Has to be something like that ! God damn that shit was feeling heavy. Lol
RustyhookerIf a strong lifting buddy was there it'd amp ya back up. Lol! I remember the adrenaline in ring when younger. Get so amped up I'd about puke. Lol!
Ha ya im the same way when I train with a partner. i get so amped I'll start hyperventilating and shit
