long arms

ad

When I bench in the gym I feel like I have a huge movement between top of motion to chest. Any tips on how much I should be moving the weights during a bench. Or should I just grow more chest that way I Dont have to go down as far ;)

Maybe try the powerlifting technique with a big arch etc. But for bodybuilding just use full ROM and use as much weight as you can still control Smile

I have long arms and what has worked for me is to mimic as though i am tearing a towel apart when I lift the bar away from the chest. It has increased my bench dramatically in the past few months. Try it out next time you flat BB bench.

If your unable to do the full range of motion then you should drop the weight until you can press correctly.

just seen this reply lol...my sorry attempt to jack the forum post?..so funny...by your question i can see you have only walked past the gym and looked into the window without actually working out.(just seen your pic so i am right) Yet your on a steroid review source site more than likely you have been juicing and you dont even know how to bench...thats why roids get a bad rep cos people like you juicing up and dont even know how to lift weights correctly.

never juiced yet you posted details of your blood work showing juice test levels?

Did you actually look at the numbers?

Senior citizen.Ouch,that hurt a little.He's only a year older than me.lol jk

I saw that senior citizen comment as well tubby! Just kidding. I think it's great that you are working hard and holding off using gear! +1 It's rare that people will actually take advice. Keep us updated on your progress.
Also, as regards to your long arms and benching problems, just take a hack saw to both limbs. Measure off 3-5 inches and super-glue the ends back together: Problem solved!!!

Now matter your height full range is a must. You may have a wider grip than most but it's due to your body bro. Just make sure your arms are parallel to the floor at start point and you should be good Same with squatting see a lot of tall guys in odd stance because of height when I fact they are putting more stress only going half squat. In football we did sumo squats to get full range but that's a different topic.

Full range of motion for a guy with very long arms is different than a lifter with shorter arms though. If i go all the way to my chest, my elbows are well past the plane of my torso and it causes extreme rotational stresses in the shoulders. I always stop about 3 inches from the chest

I agree with juice here I played college ball with guys that were 6'6 and of course have wider grip, arching is always a must (at least from what coach use to tell us :-) but don't cheat yourself bro

Can't believe you've never seen that! IMO that is THE way to bench.

Big_Al's picture

for full development you need to be doing the full range of movement. The chest will grow and you will a better overall development over the guys who only do partial reps.

I come down to a point that doesn't put excessive stress on my shoulders.I have short arms and the bar ends up 1 to 2 inches above my chest.I have tweaked my shoulder before coming down too low.
