Does strength equal size

ad

I've trained on / off for years sometimes super setting sometimes training as heavy as I can and never found the balance to get past the being a fairly decent heavyweight boxer size ! I get to 19 ish stone then I look chubby and bloated so decide to lose weight till I look too small and it starts again lol
Is strength size ? Should I just train as heavy as I can and that will cause maximum growth then go past the looking bit flabby stage and just keep getting bigger and stronger or change to different workout that pushes body on again cos that's where I fail everytime !!
If you get my meaning any input appreciated
Thanks

I'm 185-190lbs offseason and incline 225 for reps of 8... I max out on bench at 340 lbs.... no gear... with gear add 20-25 lbs too everything...

Thank you all for your replies and I have got a few great tips I shall mix into my workouts Smile

Go for the pump. I might hit a PR during a workout then cut the weight by half and burn out, 15-20+ reps slow, controlled and focused. I like to mix the weights up, what ever it takes to get blood into the muscles. Agreeing with other posts I go for increased heat rate to get the look you want. I think this is more of a diet question then a workout solution. The body fat and size goal can be me either way you hit the gym. The kitchen may play a larger role then you are giving credit. Eat big and clean.

I completely agree with this. I've been recovering and training around a shoulder injury for about 6 months now. My chest routine has consisted of flat and incline bench with the 70lb dumbbells for sets of 30 followed up by LOTS of push ups and flys. Yesterday I got good and warmed up and at the end of my workout I said wtf and threw 315 on the bar and repped it for once then racked it. 6 months before i hurt my shoulder I could only get 285 for 1rep. I couldn't believe it. It made me a firm believer that you can build strength with light weight and high reps. Another thing that really surprised me is im making a lot of strength gains on a calorie restricted cutting diet.

Oh yes the kitchen lol
I do try to vary workout but I tend to either go heavy or superset
The idea of going controlled for pump is appealing as I have never tried and have actually seen a lot of great shaped guys doing that exact thing
Thanks Smile

That's pretty similar to what I do when trying to trim down but of course cut my calories so don't get size benefit so worth a look

I notice particles reps on either incline or flat produces the thickness in the inner pec, juxtaposed to close grip... I always thought from a logical point of view, that the grip distances doesn't really effect the center chest thickness development, because the motion of the exercise doesn't change. However we all feel the exercises differently; This is what I found to benefit me.

X2...its all about cycling weightage and rep schemes. No two workouts should be the same. Do heavy, then dynamic(more hypertrophy ideas), then explosive, then back to heavy.

and. @ shizzy
totally agree that it's the variability that keeps u from plateauing!!
And to ur initial question: strength is not always equals size. The cool thing about our body is it's ability to adapt and therefore the conditioning is what matters! But every body is different, so what worx for me must not nes work for u.
Mabe try to get a good feel 4 ur body and decide on the day what feels the best and then go for it...
and go up with reps sometimes, heavy and low reps all the time will fatigue ur cns

Gotta keep the body on its toes ;-) !!!!
Yes...not everyone can do the same...eat the same...sleep the same...shit the same lol!! Agreed...its all about listening to your body and getting to know it. If you don't, then you'll just keep spinning your wheels

Funnily enough I've been doing the arnold blueprint workouts . Shock shock shock muscle and it's Absolutley fantastic

As in more sets or higher reps ? I do 15-20 sets per body part at present and tend to stay around the 4-8 rep area

high weight lower reps equals strength size. lower weight higher reps equals more endurance less size strength. so doing about 4 to 5 sets of heavy weight 6 to 8 reps will pack on strength n size or its supposed to.
