Pre-Workout Foods
ad
Hi everyone,
just wondering best ideas for pre-workout foods? something quick and easy to eat before workouts that will give energy but not fill up too much to feel a full stomach before a workout.

i have skimmed milk with BProtin about half and hour before workout. It has carbs in it. Gives me a feeling of a half filled stomach ready to workout.
just some foods i try to eat each day: beans, tuna, wheat bread, almond butter, berries, oranges, almonds, skim milk, whey protein ISOLATE shakes, spinach, tomatoes, carrots. any other suggestions for good foods, please share. thanks.
had a yogurt and an orange before a pre-workout early morning. what is best to eat for early morning workouts?
it's hard to wake up at 5 am and eat a full meal before a morning workout. but i like to have something in my stomach before doing cardio and lifting weights. it's just too stressful to workout on an empty stomach. i can do cardio, run, etc. with an empty stomach but if i do both (cardio AND weights) on the same day, i need food in me to have energy for lifting weights.
skalpadepends on your goals, while im cutting i use the "lean gains" method and use intermittent fasting. only 0 calorie amino acids for 14-16 hrs, train on an empty stomach (easier than you think) and then eat for 8-10hrs after workout. your insulin is sooo sensitive you soak up calories like nothing. can dome 3500 in 8 hrs easy. if youre bulking id eat way more before a workout than yogurt and a orange. you need meat! chicken breast & yams is another fav preworkout meal. btw im not an advocate of weights and cardio on the same day. aerobic and anaerobic training should be on seperate days. i dont even do cardio while bulking it eats muscle and decreases strength in my experience.
and yea, it does decrease my strength a little bit, but it also keeps me more lean. it's a trade off, i guess.
the hardest day for me is legs even though i like it. i do work my legs every week, but it's very rough. i might have to adjust not doing any cardio the day before legs because squats and leg presses are very, very stressful. as long as i'm working out, i will always train quads, hamstrings and calves. i feel it keeps my overall physique in proportion.
yea, you're definitely right about the cardio and weights on the same day. it's very rough. i'm a little bit more into the steady, lean muscle gains than i am with bulking for a certain amount of time and then trying to get cut during another period of time. i try to mostly stay lean all the time, but it is hard to put on weight, lean muscle and also get more cut at the same time. i like doing cardio because it seems to keep me more lean than if i just lift weights alone. a lot of it is diet for me. i might try to decrease my cardio for a bit and also tighten up my diet.
skalpai personally like a meal with high protein, good amount of complex carbs & fast acting simple carbs, and some good fat. my personal favorite: 2 turkey sandwiches with whole wheat, handful of almonds, & a cup of milk. then 45min later preworkout drink with 3 scoops of dextrose, drink right up until 1st lift. of course other people will have their own rituals. i think its whatever you feel works best for you. i think the post workout meal is more important than the pre. i think as long as you get your macros for the day in and at the right time you should be good. keep the fats & carbs for morning/preworkout, complex & simple carbs right after workout. and high protein all day long. keep fat and carbs low in the evening. hope this helps bro!
thanks. yes, i agree with clean eating, especially at night before bed. low fat and carbs in the evening sounds good.
