Contaminants in supplements

ad

Hi-

I was reading and listening to some of William Llewellyn's comments in regards to UG labs having contaminated or mislabeled gear...and it got me thinking.

Given that all the supplements sold online or in GNC aren't checked by the FDA...is there any data suggesting that these products are free of heavy metals, improperly dosed supplements, etc.?

The only thing I remembered hearing about was a Consumer Reports article on protein drinks, shown here http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2012/04/protein-drinks/index.htm

Also, in my trolling, I had read of a member named Angus who does testing on the legitimacy of some of the UG lab products. Before I reach out to Angus...can anybody let me know what it is that he can actually test for? If not, is there a simple way to find out if any/all of these products are contaminated?

Thanks-
Woody

Angus-
First off let me thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. To touch on multiple points that you have suggested:
1. I have read both of his books, prior to seeing those youtube videos that he has going around. Anabolics has literally hundreds of references to medical journal papers, which is something that I value highly being in the healthcare field myself. To date, I have not found a more comprehensive book with medical data supporting it. So, his "facts" are very much so backed up.
2. "Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA or get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements.* Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading. " Taken directly from the FDA website http://www.fda.gov/food/dietarysupplements/
3. Pardon my ignorance, as I am a newb to gear and gear boards...but in this case I was talking specifically about legal supplements...essentially anything that can be bought at a GNC. The thought did come about from reading about AAS, but that was not what I was thinking. If you thought I was insinuating something else by use of the word "supplements," I apologies. In fact, I have no idea what it is that you thought I may have been inquiring about lol.

Thanks again,
Woody
