+ 1 Avoid this when pinning

ad

Well boys and girls... never thought I'd share info like this after having a perfect track record of pinning for the past approximately 2 years. I'll present first facts tht would tell you the situation and then share with you what I did wrong in efforts of ensuring no one else repeats the same mistake.

FACTS
1 Pinning once a week and have two muscle groups to rotate from. I try to hit different spots on each muscle (right quad, right glute) each rotation.
2 No infection ever since I'm an obsessive compulsive clean freak, hot water and 6 alcohol swabs at a minimum are used up by the time im done pinning
3 I never ever get pain or swelling afterwards (virgin muscle pain aside in beginning). I pin at night, it is barely noticeable, feeling wise, and next morning no nothing.
4 I use 25g 3/4" needle.
5 Ive hit vein once and changed spots.
6 Ive hit nerves in Quad after which I switched from 1" needle to 3/4" and never hit again. So, I know the difference in feeling of hitting nerve, vein.

WHAT HAPPENED
On the 26th I pinned my quad. Always what happens is the needle goes in like hot knife over butter. This time, when it was more than half way in, it kinda wouldn't go any further. I literally had to apply force to push it in and as soon as I did I not only felt a snap but it was so obvious I would have sworn I heard it. Imagine a tight rubber band snapping, exact same sensation. The needle went in. I injected and pulled out.

AFTERMATH
for someone who never gets any swelling I must say, right now, Tom Platz would be highly appreciative of my right outer quad sweep. Hell i should post a pic of just my right quad so you guys can praise it and I earn karma Smile While walking around I do feel something, when I lunge on my own body weight it hurts so definitely leg workout is outta question. It is not excruciating pain but it is there and swelling is there.

LESSONS LEARNED
needle should go in without any force, if you need to apply force or if it won't go through, stop! Pull it out, apologize from tht muscle group and stick the needle in some other muscle group. I probably hit some scar tissue, I suppose. Also, I'm thinking I need more muscle groups to pin.

Dear all! Thanks so much for your input. I'm gonna increase pin size to least 1". I'm gonna add more sites. I heard pinning in calves hurt like a bitch but lets see if I add tht in.

ChemDawg's picture

At first I was thinking it was a ligament or tendon that was struck, but there aren't any in those areas, at least the ones you should be pinning. I know from my IV days, that sometimes, when I hit a vein, I would hear a "pop" noise. I would know I was in, I would feel the slin pin jump from the BP, and it would fill with a little blood.

I only use my calves. I have yet to hit anything that wasn't muscle. I switch back and forth
between each one . (l/r). seems to work. I heat the vial up with a hair dryer on warm for a
few moments. Check to see if the oil is warm (or) rather the vial. I use an 18g needle for
the loading and then change over to the 1.5 - 25g for the injection. The 25 goes in so easy.

A couple of swabs and im done. I've only had one case of PIP and it felt more
like I just banged my leg into table and not real PIP.. I think the reason was the oil wasn't
warmed up enough.

The same thing happened to me! I used a 25g 1in needle as well and about half of the needle went in my QUAD like butter then it stopped and I really had to push and something snapped and it hurt bad lol just like how you were describing kind of like snapping a rubber band. I aspirated and no blood came in the syringe after the whole needle was in but I pushed all the oil out to the max and I think it created a vacuum when I pulled out because a blood bubble ended up inside afterwards; I flipped out cause I thought it was a blood vessel I injected into but I tried to google online and I found out that I passed through a vein and pushing the plunger all the way created a vacuum effect inside of the syringe so as I pulled it back out through the vein the syringe sucked up a blood bubble! I couldn't walk at all the next day it was extremely painful for a couple days and I even got a light yellow bruise right on the injection site and a serious limp as I walked but no infection luckily Smile

Yes! I'm not alone Biggrin just today it is better but if I lunge I still feel something. I will go with 1" needle, in glute I'll push all the way in but in quad not so much coz I often used to hit what must be nerves coz I got a very weird uncomfortable sensation

Ive heard of guys going 3/4 on say quads since its a lean muscle but for gluts 3/4 is probably a little to shallow. Typical pin for gluts is 1 1/2" so you get a nice intramuscular pin. If you don't it can built a pocket and it will still dissipate but its going to take longer and hurt like a mother for a bit. Just my experience though.

Actually, come to think of it my left glute DID face the problem tht you're saying so I don't pin there any more. I'm gonna up the length of ma needle. Thanks! +1

I thought so too initially but I've never seen it come back out so I figured in good.

Always refer to the instruction manual.

Poke around on a few websites, I found a guide awhile ago that shows exactly where to pin in different locations but then again everyones body is different so start with the guides and move around a bit. Pining once a week wouldn't cause that much scar tissue but over the long run i guess it might. Add some new locations. And we all live and learn bro.

SmanUrki's picture

Yup am planning on adding few more sites

SmanUrki's picture

Its like I clean my hands, then clean surface to pin with hot water and then wipe it dry. Alcohol swabs are main thing. I don't heat gear but yea you guys it wasn't a good feeling at all. The next day even to remember it would cause me to react as if I just saw a horrible accident you know.

gotguns's picture

Heat pads do wonders for an easier pin. Just my opinion though.

gotguns's picture

I usually switch between these sites. Pecks, gluts, quads and delts. This will alleviate the scar tissue from pinning the same place all the time. I can only image forcing it through something, ouch bro. If it doesn't go easy i repin elsewhere. Sorry to hear.

If your going to change pin midway do you sterilize it, get a new syringe, or nothing at all and processed pinning a different site?
