Potency gets affected usually. Rare are the drugs where exceeding the exp date means they become toxic.

I'm not sure about Hormones,
but i know most OTC drugs and alot of prescription drugs are still active up to 15 yr past their "expiry' dates.
The US military did a massive study (early 2000's) on their billion dollar stock pile of drugs, and found that 90% of them works as intended.
I;m not saying that the active ingredents have not degraded a bit, but the overall effect of the drug was the same.

Alot of Pharma companies need a high turnover rate to keep profitable during their 20 yr run of a new drug,hence the expire dates.

You can use it. There is no such thing as if food expires. The only possible thing could happen is that the active substance could fall apart a bit which means you can possibly get less results due to the loss of active substance.
