No problem at all with injecting a little air bubble into your muscle - this is not a vein at the end of the day and even if it was, just a little air wouldn't hurt you either.
The reason this is done, and he only mentions this is for preservation or using as much of the oil as possible for the injection, is that it kind of "seals" the oil into your muscle, thus making it more difficult for it to come out of it so that it doesn't leak to the fatty layer and create PIP.
