+ 1 Anabolics and Alcoholics

ad

Wanted to poll the audience, how much alcohol (if any) is acceptable to consume while using anabolics? For the purposes of this discussion, let's consider a healthy TRT dose, 1-2 additional injectables and potentially a low dose oral - call it a mini cycle, less than a gram of total gear per week. I'm really curious, what's the perspective of some of the more experienced on how deleterious alcohol is to your gains and/or overall health and blood work parameters? Thanks gents

How often is consuming alcohol acceptable while using steroids?

Never
57% (20 votes)
Once per month
26% (9 votes)
2-3 times per month
9% (3 votes)
More than once per week
9% (3 votes)
Total votes: 35

There is no such thing as one drink for me. So sobriety is the only way, traded alcohol for the gym a few years back life’s never been better.

If i drink ill get drunk. Means hangover and not eating breakfast and/or lunch means no calories and weakness and skipping workouts and in my mind i lost 10 pounds of muscle because of it . So no liquor while in training

I'm a weird drinker these days. Once a month max, currently been over 2 months since my last drink. That said, when it's time to cut loose, I don't fuck around. I'm either the sober one, designated driver etc, or I'm having 15 drinks and spending the following 24 hours in bed hiding from the sun hahaha.
I feel so good on my first cycle right now I can't say I feel any desire to drink at all. Test feels better. The gym feels better.

Goal is zero drinks.. But does it happen Somtimes... Yes, yes it does.

As soon as I pick up. Training goes out the window and becomes a thought. I cannot do both and I gave up trying . I choose the long safe road, some may say boring but for me it fits like a glove. Best life I’ve lived. My drug of choice is working out and it feels so dam good at the end of the day. Great topic brother

Have been drinking throughout this cycle. Not advocating it and certainly not the best thing for your organs etc but getting best physical results due to growth taking care of fat and tren taking care of muscle. Of course results and overall health would be better without alcohol. I’ve trained after consuming 7 pints and still been lifting decent weight and got a great pump. Idiotic perhaps but thems is the facts. Anyone saying you can’t drink, eat junk and not look jacked whilst running gear is either not training hard enough or not prepared to take the risk, the latter being entirely sensible and understandable.

Alcohol consumption can negatively impact muscle growth and recovery, especially if consumed during the recovery window after a workout:

Protein synthesis
Alcohol can reduce the rate of muscle protein synthesis, which is the process of building new muscle.

Hormone levels
Alcohol can negatively alter hormone levels, such as decreasing testosterone levels.

Metabolism
Alcohol can decrease the body's metabolism, which can delay the ability to decrease body fat.

Insulin resistance
Alcohol can induce insulin resistance, which can impair muscle growth and recovery.

Energy production
Alcohol can reduce the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is a vital energy source for muscle cells.

If you have goals to build muscle, it's best to avoid drinking alcohol right after a workout. However, having a drink once in a while probably won't have long-term effects.

Alcohol can also increase the risk of injuries and complications. It can make the recovery period longer and increase bleeding and swelling around soft tissue injuries.

To avoid health risks and affected performance, it may be best to wait at least a day, or sleep it off overnight after drinking alcohol before exercising.

I prefer med links but this covered it all. Moderation in anything is key but knowing cause and effect helps guide the journey

Alcohol is 100× worse than any anabolic you could use imo. And i couldn't agree with this post more. It will kill gains. This is a excellent post.

For me to consume alcohol is literal death.

That’s exactly the moment where my life falls apart one way or another it took me TWELVE fucking years to figure what everyone was yelling at me.

Hard headed , and when it comes to anabolics I can function better as a stedhead then a degenerate alcoholic

How many years have you been sober bud?

ChuckThaDuck22's picture

3 years however the majority was spent on the inside and with the aid of Suboxone, was off the Suboxone completely then I re instated it back upstate cause I got “upset” when my trt dose was slashed,

I’ve not had a sip of alcohol or any schedule 1or 2 drug besides cannabis in a long time

Staid straight through the overdose of my sister, would go back in a heartbeat and sacrifice my life for hers right now, she flourished and I’m here building this from the ground up, I know you asked a simple question but “sobriety” is a loaded term,

Every time I have ever drank while training a lot, it basically sucked all the hydration out of me and it felt like I wasted a weeks worth of effort.

The correct answer is 0 times when your running gear. No alcohol, no drugs. Your taking gear to meet some physical goal. ANY alcohol is going to be moving in the opposite direction. Just my opinion

I’m with you but, cruise dose / (mini cycles) all this new terminology… when we were out their doing degenerative shit in life the alcohol and drugs were easy

You’ll be dammed if you get me to pick the shit up after three years and to think I can consume it socially is the biggest charade, bro when it comes to this anabolic lifestyle the alcohol is the complete toxic and opposite of gains.

It smashes test and raises estrogen, destroys manhood all for a “good time” fuck that choose one or the other they can’t mix they never do and never will

For the guys that were addicted to meth, they thought they could do some preworkout and then 9 days went by and the forgot to eat and take a shot of test,
I’ve watched it happen personally so many fucking times I can’t not see it coming from
Miles away, some are so close to picking back up today man let’s just run gear and actually workout and take the long journey, sometimes it sucks cause real life hits and you trying to explain to someone why halo makes you wanna take heads off

So much better than falling for the bananas in the tailpipe with alcohol and social drinking

Love it chucky!! We all have about reasons. I’m just a fucking druggie, but I’ve been off narcotics for 15yrs and alcohol for over 4. This is the best I’ve lived. 3 years “clean” with fucking laser focus. I say 3 years bc the first year was mother fucker !! But well worth all the struggles.

I’m going to take one from your deck, there is nothing like a night of aggressive intense fucking! Ain’t none of us better boozed up , not even in bed! Lmao

MuscleTitan35's picture

Interesting question! Personally, I’d say moderation is key. A beer or glass of wine here and there probably won’t wreck your gains, but heavy or frequent drinking can definitely take a toll. Alcohol’s impact on liver function is no joke, especially if you're throwing in an oral, even at a low dose. Plus, it can dehydrate you and mess with your recovery. In my experience, it’s not just about the gym—it’s about what shows up in your blood work. Elevated liver enzymes, cholesterol, etc., can sneak up on you. I stick to occasional drinks if I’m on cycle, but definitely avoid going overboard. Curious to see what others think!

Triggerman83's picture

Here’s my 2cents. I had struggled with a beer gut for years. I was strong, and trained hard. The dad life and easy public acceptance of alcohol consumption had me on the wrong path. An entire week of dieting can be wasted on one night of drinking. I don’t drink & I don’t preach to ppl. Alcohol has no place when we start using PEDs. It just increases chances side effects in many areas. I have found if I need to get my “party on” - cannabis does the job for me. That has became a rare occasion lately also , as it also messes with gains and training.

Nattyboomba's picture

There is a strong correlation between AAS use & recreational substance use. Many of us addicts, both in some form of recovery & some still active - are part of this community and of course there are others that are locked into clean health & longevity.
I think alcohol is one of the few things with no real physiological benefit, & when taking orals I think it’s counterproductive, as when your liver is taxed even further, you’re robbing yourself of the hormones and processes that we rely on for building muscle.
I don’t drink often, while on or off cycle (although I drank recklessly for years), however I fuck around in other ways. I once got a moon face the size of a kickball while drinking & taking d-bol

TheIcon's picture

Just because you are on gear doesn't change alcohol. I mean is it good for gains off TRT? Not really so it really wouldn't be good for gains on TRT either. Its liek saying does cake hinder gains on TRT? Does cake hinder gains off TRT then guess what it does on TRT too. In general alcohol isn't very good fo rus. Sure there are a few studies on wine and a few other libations being healthy in very moderate doses. But most of those types of alcohol most of us don't drink. They aren't talking about your sweet wines and your IPA Pumpkin Beer that most people drink.

I was a big drinker when i was younger. There was one reason for drinking. To get smashed drunk. Now adays I rarely drink. Its just not good for us in my opinion TRT or no TRT.

SimonM84's picture

I don’t enjoy drinking alcohol and I work a lot. If it’s a special event or a celebration, I would have 2-3 Tito’s with OJ but then would go months without drinking again. In the summer months, I enjoy time with my family but drinking just to drink is a destructive habit and shouldn’t be considered if you’re training for a purpose.

I smoke cigars and smoke weed once in a while.

I'll have one or two beers on the weekend, usually at a restaurant or something. I will not buy and bring it to the house though. I'll drink the whole damn case if I have it at the house --

Wife and I hit it hard every Saturday night. Let’s be honest, none of us take anabolics because they are healthy and less than 1% actually make $ from taking them so I’m not going to put my social life on hold to look a little better or be a little healthier.

RobertB80's picture

Exactly my thoughts. Having an unhealthy relationship with anything is just that. I’ve had too much booze and therefore went on to have zero booze. It’s finding that happy medium. Either you can, can’t or you just don’t want to. It’s up to each individual to decide and not judge others based on your choices, thoughts and experiences. Each to their own.

iFit's picture

Yeah it’s not only the judging that gets me it’s the hypocrisy that drives me crazy. Preaching that alcohol is unhealthy while taking steroids which are also unhealthy to what end? To look a little better at the beach, gym and in a T shirt? Listen I get it. I’ve be at it for 35 years non stop but this sport, if you want to call it that, isn’t saving lives, we aren’t making money from it, it’s not helping careers, etc. I love it and many think my life revolves around it but in reality it (working out) revolves around my life.

You are either taking this Seriously or you are not.

Anybody putting posts up like this should not be running steroids IMO.

RobertB80's picture

I disagree mate. Anyone running gear is taking risks with their health. There are people blasting huge amounts and taking orals that are massively toxic. Is alcohol good for your health? No. Is it going to aid your workouts and recovery? No. However unless you’re a pro bodybuilder or recovering alcoholic there is no firm rule stating you can’t enjoy a drink. Have lived without drinking any alcohol for 4 years, ate clean and trained hard. For me personally I’m in best shape of my life and happy to have a social drink outside the gym.. it’s about finding a balance that works for you. We are all individuals. There is no one fit for all.

press1's picture

Exactly mate - we are taking big risks with our health already running gear. We are increasing our Liver and kidney enzymes, Blood Pressure and resting heart rate, Cholesterol levels, putting more strain on our heart and so on. Consuming Alcohol makes all of these things EVEN worse despite us already taking health supplements to offset these side effects - So why on earth would you want to make them even worse by consuming Alcohol? Steroids put a 24 hour strain on the organs whilst they are active, so when you drink you put an added strain on top of that for the next 8 hours or so, and for what positive? If you go out for a night on the piss then you are reversing at least a day of recovery in terms of broken down muscle from the negative effects of drink, and plus whilst it is in you think of how useless the protein you have in your system becomes from the loss of protein synthesis from food consumed.

I don't think its about whether you are a Professional Bodybuilder or Powerlifter at all, its about how far you want to take yourself and be the best that you can be for yourself. I am the kind of person that will try and do everything possible to get the best gains I can from gear, and the way I see it is every little progression adds up to a bigger progression at the end of the month. The thought of drinking and potentially feeling shit on top of steroids, losing a few days worth of gains and good strong training sessions just doesn't interest me.

Just think, as soon as that drink enters your system then all of that water and glycogen stored in the muscle starts being pissed out - everything that fuels that muscles contractile force production and what allows it to recover by allowing amino acids to enter it more easily.

In my opinion, if you're taking drugs for performance enhancement such as test and orals plus maybe another injectable, you should be committing yourself fully to your training, diet and recovery which alcohol will inhibit. I can understand maybe having a beer or two during the game on an occasional weekend or having a few at a wedding but this should be 2-3 times a month tops if even. Nowhere close to 1 to 5 per day lol. Not that my opinion matters because its your own body, but the last time I had a few drinks was for my 8 year anniversary a few weeks ago and before that I literally cannot remember, maybe a buddy's wedding earlier in the year. I cannot speak for bloodwork parameters while on gear and drinking because I think that would be a terrible experiment to run, but I can speak for when I do have a few drinks, I usually feel less recovered for the next training session and my numbers and prs always seems to suffer because of it for at least 3-5 days afterwards. I think most would agree that drinking's effect largely depends on what level your physique is at. If you just started taking gear and you're barely a buck 80 soaking wet, you're still gonna grow, but not as well as if you went without the drinking. I'm 270 pounds at about 16%ish bodyfat and as I said, I certainly feel the effects for days afterwards and its not like I'm some old fart either, I'm in my late 20s. Which that also brings me to say, if you're older, you're gonna have a tougher time recovering from both training and drinking. Overall, I just don't think it pays to do both. If you want to drink and live life loosely, then do that. If you want to pursue bodybuilding and want to take drugs to be good at it, then go all in on that. Don't "half ass" your recovery because you want to drink too, its just shooting yourself in the foot for your progress.

Edit*
I think you should maybe make a new poll based on, different numbers or a different measurement. Maybe categories could be: zero drinking, once a month, 2-3 times month, more than oncee per week.
I say this because anyone who is doing steroids isn't going to drink everyday unless they have literally zero care about their health or gains which is not what you are looking for according to your poll description.

In a promo × 1
Dixon_Credible's picture

Took your advice and changed the poll. I agree with your perspective on this as well. I'm at the point if I have even two drinks on a Friday night I'm paying for it for days.

RobertB80's picture

That’s the valid point here. If something doesn’t serve your needs and the negative impacts outweigh the good then it’s a no brainer.

ChuckThaDuck22's picture

From just a statistic based approach, nothing to do with how you or I differ in quantity, alcohol is still the lead cause of preventable deaths, via car crashes/ liver failure/homicde.
All that comes with it right, somewhere on the list anabolic steroids barely even touch the charts.

If every alcoholic approached liver care they way we do when we runs orals it would keep that number maddddd
Low. What other liquid toxin kicks in that fast and promotes “whiskey dick”

Remember being so hungover and the only relief I could get was from masturbating all day in bed BECAUSE my testosterone was rebounding (natty)

Once you can look at it for what it really is (toxic) It doesn’t even bother me to be around it, a far cry from the 18 year old me BEGGING coworkers to buy me alcohol, just so I could forget the world.

Fuck man, if I could just reach out that young and tell someone how I actually felt inside I’d not have missed so many opportunities.
