+ 8 Why Resistance Training is sooooo important from a 70 YO

ad

Hello everyone! I touched my 1st Barbell Set at 14. I happen to be very stubborn so I have never quit lifting. My lifting philosophy may be a little different then most of you because my intention has never been to get big. Just my personal choice. Anyway Health and Fitness and Longevity are very important to me. The older I get the more important it becomes because I am now on the other end of the time line. Kudos to all of you who are lifting no matter what your training philosophy is ... you are on the right track. When you reach my age you will be so glad you did because, to me, this is the real pay off. Lifting will keep up the quality of your life and keep you looking young, at least from the neck down :). Here is why it is so effective for those of you who have not thought of it.
Our bodies are composed of several systems besides the muscular system. There is the skeletal system, the cardiovascular system, the central nervous system, the endocrine system, the lymphatic system and the digestive system. The main point I want to make is, The muscular system is the one system we have the most control over. Keep in mind that all these systems are interconnected and codependent of each other and by keeping the muscular system strong and toned we stimulate and fine tune all the other systems. That is a tremendous domino effect that will drastically slow down the aging process. Also keep in mind that as our brains are made for thinking and creativity, our muscles are made for working ... the old adage, use them or lose them is so true. I might add that if you can squeeze in the time, learn to play an instrument, it is terrific mental exercise even if you are not a natural talent like me. Hope this little blog provides a little more insight to the value of lifting for life! Thanks for reading!
BTW, I am on TRT using 200mg of test C per week. Never done roids before the age of 68. I feel this way about it. If the aging process is going to cheat me out of my youth then I have no problem in cheating back!

What a really happy and positive post - Very enjoyable to read mate!

How much different did it suddenly feel to be on 200mg of Test a week at 68 then? I can imagine it fealt very uplifting and energizing....

Yeah it helps alot. The best way I know of to prevent muscle wasting! Working out without TRT helps but I noticed it was taking me longer to recuperate. This helps me stay in the groove but I still try not to over-train by cycling my workouts from short heavy sets to long lighter sets with some very definite days of de-stressing where I only stretch, do cardio and work the heavy bag to maintain power, balance and agility.

Nice pics mate. Looking great. I'm in my 60's and still training 4-5 times a week, but don't look as buff as you. Yours is an inspirational example. Keep it up. Us old farts have got to lead by example.

Old Farts Rule LOL!

Thank you for your input! Lead by example is exactly right because people don't like to be preached to, unless they are in church, LOL! Getting old is serious business because the process is so relentless. We can't beat it but we sure as hell can slow it down. Thx again :)!

Weight lifting/Body building is the true fountain of youth. I'm 48, BF at 10%, bench 315, and feel like I'm 28. Sure we all need to be more aware of aches and pains and injuries as we age but 95% of the time I can work around an injury. Getting ready for a cutting cyle in March 18, get shredded for summer. Thanks for the posts love reading this very motivating!

Thx ... I admire people who put their heart and soul into their work :)!

Thx for your post! You have to wonder why anyone would want to become weaker as they age when it is so easy to prevent. In fact, staying strong as we age is a must IMO! Sure it takes a little work but it is definitely worth the effort. I am 70 now but will do my best to remain in shape by the time I am 80 :)!

I agree 100% with all you said bro

Great write up. +1 for making a GREAT DECISION to keep lifting throughout your adult life!

A problem with all young men (me included) is that when we're in our late teens & early twenties, we have no concept of what it'll be like when we're 30. When we hit 30, we can kinda, maybe, see 40. Once we hit 40, the next few decades make sense. I can see myself at 50, then 60, but I can't quite see 70. However, I'm old and wise enough to know, the decisions I make on a day to day basis all add up.

Good days become good years. I wanna have 30 good years behind me when I hit 70. Thanks for a great shot of positivity, brother!

The interconnected system and the health /wellness that comes with the meditation in lifting and playing instruments. ...
Lovely thoughts +

27gauge27's picture

I agree that lifting is very meditative. In fact I like to slow down my movements and feel the stress in the muscle in every single rep from beginning to end. The more the mind is involved the better the results ... IMHO :)!

Your humble opinion is 100% humble fact! +

Ok Jack Lalane and Clarence Bass stayed fit until late. Jack swam the English Chanel when he was 80. He lived up into his 90s . Totally underrated guy imo.
