-2 middle age man dealing with depression/lack of energy
ad
Hello, I am Billy. I am actually 38 but 40 is right around the corner. I have been dealing with depression and lack of energy. After blood work my doctor prescribed testosterone cream and told me to apply it to my scrotum. After several weeks, I was having more energy, feeling more positive, and was starting to work out again. I went to get it refilled and my insurance wont cover it anymore and the cream which last a month costs like 600 bucks. I am interested in advice on the injectable testosterone. I asked the doctor and she did not feel this would be good for me but really didnt give me a reason why. Can anyone in a similar situation tell me whether they think injectible testosterone would help me? What would a good cycle be?

I would talk with another doctor. You would do MUCH better with the inject.
Transdermals are poor delivery in my opinion.
I hope you beat your demons brother best wishes
I had the same circumstance, just turned 40 had low energy and lack of motivation, etc. after blood work came back with very low T was prescribed a t-gel. Worked decently the first month but after speaking with a specialist he suggested Test Cyp @ 200mg once a week. I actually split the dose into 2, .5ml Mon and .5ml Thurs to keep more stable levels. Been doing this for 3 months now and I can say that for me Injectable is the way to go. Hope you find something that works for you man.
i had a similar experience with a dr, you quickly learn all dr.s are not all informed or bright for that matter. what i do is take 150mg a week of test p 3 shots of 50mg (1/2 cc) per week . seems to be the right dose for me to feel like im 30 again (im 42) now it isnt going to make you feel 20 but hell it helps. this is just what i did and had a positive experience, i find you have to experiment with safe amounts to see whats right for you some do 100mg some 200mg. wish you luck i know the feeling.
You’re doing 3 injections a week!?! Besides that being a pain and miserable, that’s a ton of scar tissue you’re building up and a greater risk of infection. I can hardly stand my once a week injection.
Glad you feel better, but trt is a lifetime commitment and I don’t see how three shots a week is sustainable. I certainly would switch to a longer ester.
I'm nobody to give advice, but I would like to see your blood work. Could you post your levels and results? I glanced at your profile and it states weight of 335lbs at 5'11. I guess thats where i would start. The old dogs on this site can give you better advice, but i would start with a good diet. As you didnt paint us a great picture...stats, info, etc. we can only assume. As a non-medical, non-professional my guess is you are obese and that contributes to your depression. Not the right time for juice. Am i missing something?
You went to a woman dr?
Ditch da bitch
Well if you get a 10cc vial of testosterone enanthate for 60 dollars that's enough for probally 3 or 4 months. You tell the doctor I'll take care of my testosterone and let her give you a hand job and bloodwork
LMFAO,.......... really, $60 ???
My doctor wrote me a 6 months script for 3 vials (10ml @200mg/ml) of Test Cyp, the brick and mortar source with the big red W, charged me $105 and change all in for the 3 vials,......... that is $35 and change per vial,...... $60 ???? your being taken my friend.
Check out goodrx.com .
GoodRx is the ticket. For the longest time I was paying unreal amounts of money for all my prescribed meds until one day someone said check them out and let me tell you the cost of my meds now are a fraction of what I was paying. A lot of people are in the dark about GoodRx as I was but now I tell everyone about them. Its crazy how Pharmacy's inflate the cost of medications these days. They know that most people need these meds to live a quality life and to survive and they know we have only two choices we either pay the cost of we suffer and its utter bullcrap.
Doc is a nutjob. I would be dropping her quicker than a box of rocks and find one that is actually going to help you.
"the cream which last a month costs like 600 bucks"
that reason is enough why an injectable testosterone would be better for you!
Go and get a new doc who prescripes you a correct hrt instead the cream crap.
What do bloods show ?
Prior cycles ?
Private problems ?
Stats actual ?
Diet ?
Goal, expect feeling good again ?
I’ve been down that road. Nothing works better than the shot.
Get a new doctor. She sounds like a man hating witch.

Living4ThePumpSpeaking out of own experience, the cream or gel is hell. I had to use it on summer time and hated it. You have to wait several hours before being able to swim/shower or sweat. So when applying in the morning, training right after waking up isn’t really possible.
Next thing is absorption. Often times stuff stays on the clothing and if you have a wife or partner, the risk of transferring it to her is given. Also in terms of blood work, I used one shot of the tube on each armpit and it just pushed my test levels up by 70ng/dL (measured in the morning before applying the gel) that stuff just doesn’t get absorbed that good from the skin. When injecting you‘ll always have a given amount in your body and much more bang for your buck.
Reason why GP‘s are prescribing that sh*** is first most are afraid to give testosterone per injection, second Money. Many doctors, like mine, have contracts with the manufacturers of these gels and get money when prescribing it. Also, the gel is much more expensive when compared to injections especially if you need several ml‘s of that stuff per day to get your test levels into a reasonable range.
I could have gotten prescribed injections but would have to go to the doctor every singly time for that. That’s not a reasonable schedule for me. I wanna self inject and at least 1 time per week to get a stable blood value of test. And that’s why most GP‘s don’t prescribe and let self inject. Most docs, like mine again, inject only every 2 or even 4 weeks. You‘ll be on a roller coaster of well being because your test levels will fall rapidly in the last few weeks (get familiar with half lifes etc. that’s how you can figure out optimal injection frequency, also look on blood work).

You should talk to your primary health care provider about self injecting TRT. My TRT prescription is delivered to my door and I inject myself. I don't know your hospitals standard procedure but you may have to demonstrate self injection before leaving the clinic, maybe even take a class due to liability. To avoid those pesky creams, notify the physician that you have small children in your home and your worried about cross contamination. Docs usually don't care when you tell them your spouse is experiencing side effects compared to a minor experiencing early puberty.
Sounds like BS to me. Armpits would be more appropriate and less sensitive to the "alcohol like" carrier creams use to get the product to absorb through the skin (I forget what it's called).
Secondly, transference to your partner is a concern. The number one argument (and the answer to your question) against the use of topical testosterone is the worry of transference during sex.
Did I mention this sounds like BS?
And here lies the real question. Translation, "I'm too lazy to research, so can you spoon feed me the answer if I pretend I'm concerned with TRT?"
The guy is a promo whore trying to get his karma up. It's a bullshit post.
Not sure why this was negged so I fixed it
Thanks Bro - appreciated.
Once I read the the post I waited to see how many responses he got. Man these trolls dont have to try hard at all.
Doctor approved Test cream applied directly to your scrotum?
That is a very perturbing statement.
All my experience with gels the labels and inserts clearly and boldly states "Do not apply to genital area."
Help yourself by doing vast amounts of personal research
Believe it or not, when applying topical testosterone creams, gels and patches directly to the scrotum the absorption increases from approximately 15% to 70%. When testosterone topical creams are applied to other body parts such as the inner arm, torso, chest, shoulders and back you achieve a 9-14% absorption compared to a 50-70% absorption when applied directly to the scrotum. The skin on your nut sac is more receptive to steroid absorption due to it’s high blood flow, composition, thickness, and low fat content. Beware, the creams and gels are alcohol based and not recommended to be applied directly to the genitals due to skin sensitivity and irritation. Most likely your scrotum will burn like that time you itched your nuts after eating nachos with jalapeños...
She told me prolonged use could cause problems, but she said my levels were very low and for a month she had me apply directly to my scrotum and than after that, I was told to apply it to my chest after I dry off from a shower but I cannot afford to get the cream anyways and from the research I have done injecting it says works way better than the cream. A friend of mine referred me to this site but didn't give me advice on what to do, was hoping some of the middle aged guys who might be in my position have tried.
