Why I do what I do
ad
So I have been asked quite a bit lately why I always try to push so much weight, why I work out so hard etc etc. my first thought is if you really have to ask you probably wouldn't understand my answer, but nonetheless my answer has been: to know that I can. To better myself, it's like a battle with myself that no one can help me with. My success depends on me 100%. It's the one thing where I have to depend on no one or nothing but me to come through. Either I train hard show up and meet the goals I set for myself or I don't. 100% on me.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts a bit and see what you guys think, have you ever been asked questions like that if so what's your response?

Seems like an odd question to be asked. Let alone being asked that question a lot. However I wouldn't spend any time trying to explain it to anyone. I'd just say "I like the challenge".
I mean it's not something strangers are coming up and asking me, it's people I know, most of which don't lift, not seriously anyway...
Never been asked that but I know the drive. For three weeks now I've been trying to pull a 495lb deadlift. The first week I could only get it an inch off the ground. Each week I add a few inches. I'm doing everything to increase my strength so I can reach my goal; i.e. band work, chains, stiff leg deads, sumo stance deads, Jefferson deads, etc. I never give up on a goal. I push and push until I succeed.
I hear ya brother!! I was that way with 405 bench now I can get it for two. Now my mission is to get good clean set of ten with it before I up the weight again... Gonna take time but I'll get it, so will you!! 495 is my sticking point also right now on deads
Nice! I've been hitting back twice a week and really focusing on my deads and power cleans. One day of the week I deload with light weight and high reps. My next back workout I go all in on deads and power cleans. I've been making great gains with the power cleans, but it is a new exercise for me. Over the past three weeks I have increased my weight on power cleans two times what I began at.
Impressive!! I used to do power cleans when I played football, but haven't done one in years... Something I might think about getting back into for sure...
They're fun. I started reading Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength and it's what he recommends to build power. I've notice a big increase in my speed just in past month.
I will have to check it out, stretching is another biggie I have to get back into
