Torn meniscus recovery question/questions
Hey everyone, I had a couple questions for anyone who has had orthoscopic knee surgery (preferably in construction) for a torn meniscus. I tore my meniscus at the end of August of this year at work and was finally able to have it removed on Oct 30th. With it being workmans comp it took it took over 2 months of questions, interviews, finding "their doctors" ect to get orthoscopic surgery done. I know each person is different however, I'm curious as to how long were you guys off of work post surgery?
Yesterday was my first visit for PT & was told I need 4 wks of it then get reevaluated to see if I need more. Between the swelling, bruising, lack of mobility, being unable to drive is driving ect it's driving my nuts! Thankfully I have a at home gym where I can sit & workout on upper body all be it minimal I at least have something I can do to keep working out. I'm thankful for being able to somewhat maintain my upper body appearance & to keep me from going stir crazy since I have to rely on others to get me out of the house. What are the things any of you have done, outside of what your physical therapist told you, to help with this injury? Is there any other exercises, supplements, peptides that helped with recovery? I'm going slow with their routine as told & not wanting to aggravate it. It just seems like from all the people I've talked to that once surgery was done they were up & about right away. I was told my knee would be 100% at the end of February. It just seems like from all the people I've talked to that once surgery was done they were up & about right away.
What are the things that may have help you along the way? What was your time frame off of work? Thankfully I'm in good shape with low bodyfat so that will help me as they stated.
I want to thank all of you in advance for any & all of your help. I'm looking forward to hearing from you in regards to my issue.

Did they remove the torn piece or repair it. I had the same surgury about 8 years ago. They removed the torn piece and I was walking three days later. Only missed like a week of work. However they said if they repaired it I would be six weeks non weight bearing
Thank you for your response. They removed the torn piece & they told me that the meniscus flipped 180 degrees. I'm not sure if that's the reason then for the difficulties with bending it because if the flipping isn't normal, I guess by flipping it back is a repair in itself? I'm able to apply weight, that's not a problem, it's just bending it. The therapist said I was able to bend it 45 degrees where my other knee is normal with 130 degrees. What I do for a living involves a lot of lifting standing squating in all awkward positions so maybe that's why I they said I'll be out the amount of time they said. I see my doc Dec 1rst after therapy to be reevaluated. I'm hoping by then I'm back to normal.
That sounds a lot more complicated than mine. I bet they cut some out and repaired some when it flipped. I would follow their advice for physical therapy and not push it. I've had five surguries on my knees. The torn meniscus was the easiest. The two microfracture surguries were way more difficult. And I would've only needed one if I had just listened to what the surgeon and physical therapist said. Good luck.
I'm thinking they did repair it too. I'm definitely not going to push it, no need to make it more difficult by hurting myself to try and hurry up the process. I'll just stick with the program thsts laid out for me. I appreciate your time and your responses. Thanks bud
