I'm a former boxer of 6 years, started out as self defence and just loved it and stuck with it. I've always looked up to Iron Mike Tyson.. IMO his ruthlessness and sear aggressiveness coupled with his massive amounts of shit talk was the coolest thing.. So whos your favorite boxer or fighter, and why?

I know for a fact that he was on a medication to make you happy/undepressive.. and they would take him off his meds right before the fight. Plus back then, they were all doped up on painkillers before the fight.

Lennox Lewis IMO was the best heavy weight ever. I believe in his prime that nobody could beat him. He's often overlooked because he was such a boring fighter. No show, low key, but a master of the art. It's tough to say he was the best ever because of the era he was in.......

Absolutely he was a brilliant tactician but boring that's why he didn't get very much notoriety. Go back and watch some of his fights and really watch the way he works. It's methodical and calculated......

Lol a lot of people do.... The man really does his homework though. He's also a counter puncher and does a lot of waiting to make his move. This lack of aggression is why he was so unpopular and boring. He is very precise and has that big left hand that opponents know and worry about. He works mostly off the jab to set up his kill shots. He doesn't have a big hook but has a couple of KO's with it. He's so long that his jab is his best weapon and he uses it like a tall person is supposed to.
There's a big difference with the question of who's the best and who's the most fun to watch. Tyson was by far the best to watch and maybe Gatti! As far as the best I still give it to Lewis.....

Mike won the fight before he set foot in the ring. He was a devastating puncher but it was worse that he had them all up in their own heads long before the bell rang. The losses on his record were to guys that had no fear of him. Buster Douglas lost his mom that week and since the fight was in Tokyo he couldn't bury her unless he called off the fight. He was a man on a mission. Tyson took him lightly and he paid the price. Holyfield didn't give a shit about getting hit hard. Took Tyson's shots with a smile. That was the ultimate mind fuck for Mike. And Lennox Lewis is a big pussy. He waited until Mike was all but finished to make a fight with him.
Gennady Golovkin is my favorite right now. Here's a guy who has 300+ amateur bouts and has the highest KO percentage of any fighter ever. He is very much the way Joe Louis was. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Joe Louis but I know he had knock out power in both hands, made very few mistakes. Fundamentally sound, good foot work, always moving forward. Gennady is very much the Same kind of fighter. He moves forward every second of every round. He is a superb counter puncher. He stalks his opponent to the point of forcing them to abandon their game plan and go into survival mode. He capitalizes on mistakes while making very few himself. His ring generalship rivals that of Miguel Cotto. The complaint I hear about him often is "he hasn't fought anyone". Well number one that's bullshit and I'll tell you why. He has fought at least 3 top tier fighters and knocked them all out. One on a body shot. Body shot knock outs are impressive for a few reasons but most of all these guys train all year to take punishment and are professional athletes. They are supposed to be able to endure a lot of abuse. So for someone to have the kind of power that makes a body shot a night ender, that is special. I have been directly involved in the sport a long time and have only seen a hand full of fighters capable of this. GGG is special and it's a treat to watch him. Ohh , back to the reply to "he hasn't fought anyone". He has tried to make a fight with EVERY SINGLE TOP CONTENDER OR CHAMPION FROM 154lbs to 168lbs. Nobody wants to fight him. He is the most avoided fighter in the history of the sport

I'm with Tyson, in his prime he'd of beat any other boxer. That includes Ali, raw aggression would of seen him power through anybody on the planet. He was the perfect boxer.

We will have to agree to disagree here bro, I think Ali would have toyed with a pure brawler like Tyson, when I boxed a great boxer would always beat a great brawler. Also Tyson's chin was not the greatest and for sure Ali would have hit him a lot. I have to agree with COTM here, Tyson was raw unadulterated power in his prime and I would even say unstoppable under cus d'amato. There were just no weaknesses in him, from his head movement, body shots and his ability to KO you from any angle even from far distance. After D'Amato he became a head hunter and that was his downfall.
A match that I would love to see is wladimir klitschko vs Ali, personally I think klitschko would jab him into a coffin in 3 rounds or less.
