Iraq war/world police

ad

Do you guys think America made the right decision invading Iraq? And what about Syria should we go in?
For those of you not American, Why does the world hate us? If your countries leader led military strikes against non-violent protestors, wouldnt you want help? During the revolutionary War France helped us defeat the british. We would not be America had it not been for foriegn involvement. It was ok to liberate Europe, but its not ok to liberate Iraq?
I will say in all fairness the war was a disaster, the timing was off, and it ended up doing more damage than help. But I see whats happening in places like Syria, and one has to wonder, should we help these people?

P_Verstappen's picture

Well if you think and believe that we are fighting to save people then I think invading Iraq (or any other country in the same position for that matter) is the right thing to do, of course we will always have someone pointing theyr finger at us, it is very easy to talk shit about someone. Anyway, there is another way to look at this, Are we really in Iraq to save people? Because we might not know what the truth is behind the war, war is a business and some people are making a lot of money with this shit. And about Syria, don't worry.... We will always be at war with one country or another, It's all about business.

I'm an Aussie and I love the US and agree with the war in Iraq, you cant just let a dictator commit mass genocide against people when you are able to help them. So of course America is doing the right thing by helping these countries and i think anti war campaigners should be ashamed for sneering at the people who guard them while they sleep.

Angry Squirrel's picture

Haha. You obviously don't know anything about American involvement in the Middle East.

We supported most of those dictators, including Saddam. Mubarak was a dictator that received billions from us while he oppressed his own people.

Before any of you comment about foreign policy, you might want to understand what it is you're talking about.

It is not as simple as us verses them. Our involvement goes way back during the cold war.

swolltroll's picture

I love ron paul. He is a strict constitutionalist. He truly stands for libery.
I would vote for him in a heartbeat. I think the media engaged in a smear campaign against him.

swolltroll's picture

well thats fair enough. Being that he believes Iran has a right to become armed with nukes. Well they do have have other countries with nukes very close to them, within striking range. If I was Iran I would want nukes. I think eventually pretty much every country will have nukes.

shrapnel's picture

You know there are alliances across the world. It truly is coming down to an Us against them kinda thing.Everyone is drawing there lines in the sand.

shrapnel's picture

Heres my prob with everyone being arm chair quater backs as some one called everyonyone speculating on whats best..... because thats what we are doing.. speculating. I dont understand how ppl can complain bout what the us is doing world wide when in reality we have no idea the TRUE reasons they do anything they do. We Are not privied to the whole story .... so how can we know. As far as our middle east campaign how many ppl actually belive even there for terriost alone. I don't! Makes perfect sense.... think about it guys,..... got to Iraq then basicaly clean up and smack down regional armies.... set up base around oil reserves then basicaly just chill till oil starts running out.... gobble that shit up while kicking everyones ass out. back up plan is alaska oil reserves and off shore drilling. Oil is running out , believe it. We are setting up for a huge ass fight over oil... wait and see.....ww3 basically. Not good!~

the world loves our money. every country we owe money to loves to buy our bonds. the US dollar is strong and consistent. people have faith that it will never lose its value and that is why countries like china take will take our government bonds. there was a time in russia where the citizens refused to use their national currency, and instead used American currency. that is because they could wake up the next day and find out their economy crashed and their russian money doesnt have the value of toilet paper. As retarded as it may sound, the rest of the world has faith in us. otherwise, the US dollar wouldnt be excepted everywhere!!! yeah, the rest of the world is going to take a big loss too when obama's economic plans dont fall through....

Angry Squirrel's picture

Investors have no where to go! It has nothing to do with people liking us. We are the reserve currency for now. However there has been discussions by various countries as to why the dollar needs to be replaced. The dollar is overvalued, we have more debt than any other country in the world. The Euro is in a mess and china is still supressing its own currency. So where are these people going to go? To the U.S of course.

manbearpig's picture

yep doesnt matter whether or not anybody likes us. for some foolish reason countries like china kept investing in our bonds. they had "faith" when they took our bonds. so they are going to have losses too if this doesnt turn out right. now i am not saying they made a smart decision! when countries realize how overvalued the dollar is, and cease business relations with the US that is when the economy falls.

manbearpig's picture

the dollar is weak but not even close to "no value at all". (i was being optimistic saying at least it isnt cheap as toilet paper.... LOL). im saying that, not yet do we have to worry that countries not excepting our currency.

it could be an "IF", if we get a new president!!! (that really really knows what they are doing) i realize it is a really bad situation, but since the "super crash" has not happened yet there is still time for a new president to come in with a strong economic policy for reducing spending and increasing taxes.

swolltroll's picture

How and who have we blackmailed?
im just curious. I see youve mentioned monetary policy, are you a ron paul supporter? I really was hoping he would be our next president.

swolltroll's picture

Yes I do know what they are. They are any way in which a country causes an economic hardship on another, in order to attempt to influence foriegn policy conditions. This can mean for instance the freezing of iranian assets in order to force them to give back US hostages at the embassy in Tehran. Or it can be something like an embargo on a country like cuba. We did that as a form of retaliation against Cuba for his Anti-American stance, simultaneously setting up nukes within striking distance of our country. Another example would be when China recently imposed economic sanctions against the phillipines, because they allow an American military presence.
That being said can you give me an example of the US has demanded money in return for not releasing injurious information about one's country?(blackmail)

swolltroll's picture

Okay I dont mean to offend you. Im trying to see where your coming from. Id like to know some examples of who and how the united states has blackmailed other countries.

manbearpig's picture

during a workout, my lifting partner who came back from afgahnistan 2 years ago said, "hmm its been awhile since i have killed a man." war is not good... he has seen a lot of stuff that many of you couldn't imagine in your worst nightmares. being in the middle east (that hell hole) doesnt do much good for anyone. the US should let those countries suffer from the problems they have caused themselves. our national defense could be better utilized in some other way im sure.

manbearpig's picture

it is not the US's making, but i agree we have no business there.

Oh here we go again. Pass the popcorn

War is necessary for America. A lot of our future technology comes from the military. Where do you think bluetooth came from? Vietnam war. A buddy of mine in the military told me that id be amazed at the stuff they use in Afghanistan and Iraq. He didnt go into specifics but he said there is stuff thats never shown on TV and things we couldnt come to fathom. Its just part of being the only superpower in the world.

If America go in the world will hate them, if America don't go in the world will hate them. All countries likes to sit back and judge, makes them feel superior.

WashingtonsGreedy's picture

i think people in general now-a-days like to hate and bitch, its the new trend now...hate and bitch about anything and everything.

fast48's picture

My 1%er ass is happy that real heroes help those without the strength to stand up.

boots2asses12's picture

just m/o we should protect our own country and thats it. of course we dont , we get into everyones bussiness so they hate us, were broke, in debt, loose lives...for what polotics? 1% of americans are ''free'' the rest of us work to live and live too work in our persuit of happiness , while the 1% hope we die young so they make more money. I have a family full of marines .. and my little brother is headed over near syria in a few months wich i believe means we will get involved in there shit too....

swolltroll's picture

I can respect your opinion. 1 % of Americans are free? Do you mean to tell me that freedom to you is being filthy rich? To me money doesnt neccesarily equate to happiness. The 1% percent pay 62% of the taxes. 50 % of Americans pay no federal income taxes, mostly the elderly or families with children. I hope the best for our troops and your brother. .

manbearpig's picture

that fact disgusts me. i think everyone needs to be taxed. not to the same degree. every citizen should contribute just like being part of a team. no more free-riders. no much less social redistribution.

WashingtonsGreedy's picture

i second that, everyone needs to be taxed. there are two completely opposite mind sets and train of thought in this current society. theres hardly an in-between anymore. i doubt we will see a moderation consisting of the two, therefore we will continue to see the extreme on one side or the other. i have a feeling this conflict we are experiencing in this country right now is far from over.

jkc's picture

Yea, what he said.

boots2asses12's picture

money = happiness .. absolutly not my friend. I am one of the happiest people u could ever meet every day, i have $ 200 dollars in my bank after i payd rent, car just got totaled , only have grocerys cuz food stamps . What happens when you take the happiest person in the world.. take away there house, car, loose there job ...happens everydday to good people = 90% of the violence in america! thats what. we got enough shit to fix here
