How to gather cash for a start up biz ?

Hello, a kid of my friend just graduated and we just had a debate related to getting hired or starting your own business, with pros and cons. For those of you who started a biz, how did you get the money to start ? Any advice ? Thanks.

AnonI run my own business . I bought an existing business from a guy I knew and who knew me, so I made an arrangent with him to pay him over time. No bank loan involved. I did give him a chunk up front and we did have a contract, but it was way easier than coming up with the money to equip a business from scratch.

AnonThere is a very successful deli near me and it was started by three friends. About two years after they opened one of them went to jail for about 7 years for possesion of 20 assault rifles, several pounds of weed and 100k in cash.
He forgot to give that life up when he got his business up and running. I know quite a few guys that got their start by moving some product, you just have to know when to stop.
