Help and words of wisdom for an addict.
Hey kids, Ed here with a little more serious post for you my nameless faceless friends.
I've been doing a lot of self reflection, looking back on my life, considering who I am, who I've become, what took me there, what has helped and what has hurt me.
My life has been quite successful in a number of areas. I have a successful career and Jobs that pay well, I have a beautiful wife, who is very smart, funny and easy to get along with, in fact I am madly in love with her. I love her company, and I think she even likes mine.
we never run out of things to talk about, and it's probably the best marriage that I've really ever seen. I have enjoyed every single day of our life adventure together. I have wonderful children, they are all healthy, very smart, very cute, polite, and I absolutely love being a dad to them. My family is absolutely everything to me, and nothing brings me more happiness than they do.
I have an excellent college education, and even while getting the education pulled off some pretty sweet accomplishments in athletics. I have good friends, a great family, and really a storybook life, if there is such a thing.
So that's my life in a nutshell as we speak. Oh yeah, lets not leave out the elephant in the room. I'm a damn addict.
WTF Ed? What kind of addict are you?
That's a good question kids, a question that I really don't have an answer to. I guess I'm addicted to every damn thing I touch, and I don't know why.
When I was younger it was alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. I no longer drink, do hardcore drugs or use tobacco. But now I find myself always having to be on something and it really doesn't matter what it is, I really don't have a preference I just have to be on something. Does that make sense to anyone?
I've recently had some medical issues, along with that came a sweet prescription of Oxycodone. I'm a smooth talker so yeah, I got a lot of it. I love the shit. This isn't my first rodeo with Oxy's. Once I have a prescription for it, I take it until it's gone. Not on an as needed basis, but because I like the way it makes me feel. When the script runs out, I won't go back to the doc and try to work him for more, I won't steal it from someone, I won't prostitute my sexy ass body for some, I'll quit and be miserable for a few days but then two or three weeks out, I'll feel empty like something is missing and I'll jump on cycle just to have something in my system. I'll cycle for 12 weeks, jump into pct and afterwards hit and ECA stack or jump on phentermine for a while just to keep an edge and keep my body cut up. (this edge almost always includes a drug of some sorts) , in the mean time, I'll probably get sick and my doc will prescribe some hydrocodone cough syrup. I'll sip on that shit and be high for a few days until it's gone. I'll go a few weeks without anything, but something usually comes up I'll break a toe or something and get something else and run it. I don't smoke weed, I don't drink booze and I stay away from the hard drugs that I messed with when I was younger, but it seems like I'm always on something. It's kind of a crazy cycle. I just don't feel normal unless I'm on something. Does that make sense to anyone?
I think that's why steroids is so appealing to me. I can jump on a nice cycle, get obsessed with the cycle workout, and not be tempted by the other shit. However, I know that I cycle harder than I need too, and admittedly run compounds a little heavier than needed because of my addictive nature.
So in reflection, I worry that all of this is going to catch up to me. As mentioned earlier, I really do have an awesome life, I don't want ruin it by being a dumbass, but I have an incredibly hard time finding balance. It's either balls to the wall or nothing.
Sure, there are periods of time where I am on nothing, and I force myself to keep off shit because I don't want to get carried away. I look at guys who do get carried away and it completely ruins their lives. I think a lot of these guys probably started off just how I am. Always on something.
I don't want to lose everything that I have. Shit, I have it good. way better than I deserve. I've worked my ass off to get here but can see that I'm walking that fine line.
So what do I do? What should I do? How do I fix this? How do I fix myself? Am I the kind of guy that needs to just stay away from absolutely everything including steroids? I'm not that worried about size, I don't compete, and the fact of the matter is, I can hold a pretty respectful 215 all natty. I like 235, would really like 250 but at what cost?
I don't know how to live half cocked? It seems like it's either all or nothing?
I don't know bros. Maybe this resonates with a few of you, maybe it's just me rambling. I just don't want to ruin everything that I've worked so hard for because of this weakness.
How do I find that middle ground? How do I fix myself before I ruin myself?
Any words of advice or wisdom would be awesome. Sorry to throw out such a lame post and wallow in my weakness. But where does a guy turn?
All my love, no homo

AnonThats an addictive personality there is no cure bro
I have it to
Whatever your into you become addicted but heres the best thing
You know it and admitt it so thats a big plus
Ive kicked the habit but im married to the test i cant produce shit.. my balls cant get right
U ever wanna talk jus holler
Thanks bud. I hate to admit it but I agree there isn't a cure. But I do believe there has to be some treatment.
AnonYea its just a part of ourselves that we overcome day at a time
Sounds just like me.. but I love getting thrills more and I can't just do something once.. doesn't have to be drugs although those were always nice too.. near death experiences are great for me.. that is probably when my mind is clearest.. but I always feel extremely guilty for loved ones after i do anything like that.. that's basically why I'm so mellowed out now.. I don't think I valued their feelings as much until I lost loved ones because of their own selfish habits.. their death was a giant middle finger to me.
imagine your kids going through the rest of their childhood with no father.. now imagine your wife struggling to support them.. that's a rough life I wouldn't wish on anyone.. it'd be in your best interest to see a therapist.. you've got something bottled up
Damn, who needs a therapist when I have such insightful bros here on Eroids. :). I think you are right. There is some serious bottling up going on. And yes, my biggest motivator to fix this is my kids. It would kill me to know that I robbed them of a dad because of my selfishness.
I do believe it is a personality trait we are born with.. and we will always have.. but clearly some things trigger it into a huge fucking mess.. I can be good for a year and then I slip and do something insanely retarded just fucking because. =/ I'm looking into a therapist myself now.. feel free to pm me
Will do brother. I'm kind of the same way. I can do good for a while and bam. Dumbass again. Lol.
Ya know, one of my best friends is a therapist, and before he moved away, it was so nice to just chill with the guy. We could bullshit, hunt together all the while he's applying his therapy on me. Lol. It seemed to help.
I can relate to this a lot. I've always looked for something to alter the way I feel. My wife says I have a dependent personality. She says I always have to have something. I think you have to look at the ones you are hurting. Obviously yourself, but your loved ones. Is it worth losing them. I have quit using drugs and now when I want a drink I ask my wife. Do I need her permission? No, but asking her shows I respect her feelings and keeps me honest. Eventually when you give up what you are dependent on your body will adapt, it's hard at times, but it will. You never think you are addicted to something until you try and quit. I didn't think I was addicted to porn until I quit watching it. You know of all the things I have been "dependent" on, AAS included porn was what affected my wife more than anything. It may her feel inferior like she wasn't good enough. Truth is I watched it to bust a nut simple as that. Since I have quit watching it our sex life has been better then it has ever been.
Now that brings me to steroids. Do I think it's an addiction? No, obsession? Yes. When I came clean to my wife and told her about my past and future use naturally she said, you always have to be dependent on something. This may be true, but ASS use makes me disciplined takes away my desire or need for other things. Does that help an addiction problem, probably not, but I use it for the intention of bettering my body. I don't think you can say that for other substances. Sure steroids can be abused and dangerous, but if done properly you are improving your health and well being. I don't think you can say that about drugs or alcohol. They are used to mask or disguise what you are feeling not enhance it. Am I trying to justify AAS use for myself, maybe, but it is keeping me off other things.
I hope this helped or hell maybe it made things worse. Only you know what you want. I think if your loved ones are on board and support what you do then that's all that matters. I'm not the most righteous man, but it helps to believe in a higher power, if not what are we living for? You want a reality check read any verse from the bible. I am not perfect and never will be, but I try to do right by family and myself. Self reflection is the hardest thing in life. Don't beat yourself to death over it will only make things worse.
Even though you may have killed a hooker or two it sounds like you are doing alright.
Thanks brother you Seriously hit home with what you wrote. We might be long lost brothers. :). The only difference is probably the hooker killing thing.
Thanks for the words. Really appreciated.
Very heat felt ed, I wish you luck which ever avenue you decide to travel. I've always dabbled with drugs, coke being the worst, but never been Addicted. I wish I could give you wisdom that would be able to rectify this demon. There no magic words or class that can take this away, just like changing your body it takes dedication and commitment, but if you want it bad enough the sky is the limit. You already admitted your weakness and that's a very honorable first step, now comes the time to "get to work." If you feel quitting everything is what it takes then by all means. Whatever it takes Ed, whatever it takes. You don't want to set a bad example for your kids, eventually they might find out too. You seem like a great guy, fair winds my brother! Godspeed.
Your internet brother and friend,
Winning (no homos) ;)
I think it's just a matter of finding the balance, setting boundaries and sticking to my guns.
I could quit the gym and quit the juice, but then turn into a big fatass with a donut problem, and hell no, I'm not going to have just one donut, I'm going to eat the whole damn box. Lol.
That's not productive either.
Maybe my ticket is to take some time and be honest with myself about which path is destructive and which is actually constructive. Make a list and set hard boundaries.
A little over a year ago, I swore off all narcotics. Did really well until I got sick recently and needed them. Now I'm back to square one. Don't need them as bad, but like them so what the hell.
So yeah, Im going to evaluate all of this shit, set hard boundaries, stick to my guns, and keep re-evaluating on a regular basis.
I don't really know what else to do. I for damn sure won't go down without a fight.
Hey bro I have a good story for ya hit me up on pm sometime...best wishs -ToT
insert possible horrible advice . I kinda want to say you've already found the middle ground. Maintaining a successful career and such a healthy home life while staying away from the hardcore chemicals to me at least (also an addict) is a great fucking achievement, clean or not. Like you said, when the bag of sunshine runs out your not snatching no granny's hand bag for her bingo winnings to get a fix. Not for one second suggest you settle with things the way they are, just offering a little perspective however fucked it may seem lol.
I appreciate the perspective, and sometimes I look at it and think that I'm ok, things are good yada yada yada, but man I think most guys that hit rock bottom and shit life away probably at one point stood where I am standing right now before it got bad.
I hear you man. Which ever path you decide, I wish you all the will in the world yo.
RustyhookerThat was very deep and honest. Sounds a lit like my real brother. Things will eventually spiral. And the cost maybe everything that you fully love in life. Many counselors are out there at reasonable cost so you can talk it out. Work it out. Might involve 12 steps and counselor. It's really up to you to flip that quarter and do whats best. You were and are a "partier", so look around at your friends who had to hit full bottom. Some people must bottom before they wake up. Most of my friends just expired in different ways. Im the last of my group. Dont you be the last .....
Thanks for the reply. I think you are absolutely right, and I'm not willing to pay the price of losing everything that I love. Especially my family.
I am a partier. But my party has been alone for quite some time. There isn't a person in the world that I party with. There isn't a person that I know that knows about this party and I've his it for quite some time now. Yes my wife and my Dad know I have a weakness for these things bit but definitely not to the full extent.
Good post ed, if you find an answer to that question do let me know, I've been looking for one for a long time.
Thanks bro. Just watching everyone around here, I don't think that we are alone. My fear is that I'm in car driving way too damn fast and it's eventually going to end up in a nasty crash.
I know it brother, I used to be really bad years ago and got myself dialed in, but every now and again I can feel it, more so lately Bc my work situation is not going well, luckily my family life is awesome so it balances out. I just had to learn myself and how to keep me and my thinking in check... Not easy at times
everyone deals with stress in different ways. it happens to us all, no one is perfect at life. But sounds like you have things going for you and good family life also. When times are tough it's nice to have someone to fall back on. use the gym to burn off anxiety/steam as well as appreciate the work you put in in the kitchen and the gym that always helps me when I feel depressed or stressed out. stay up !
Thanks a million brother! It's like my pop always says, gotta keep a stiff upper lip. Everybody has their "thing" just gotta find the right way to deal with it.
I hear ya brother. Keep fighting it. The work thing can always be fixed. Unfortunately sometimes the family thing cant. Stick to your guns.
I'll even try to take my own advice.
I hear ya brother, any time you wanna talk shoot me a pm bro.
Thanks brother. Same goes for you.
