Last week, I threw a big leg of lamb in the crockpot. I seasoned it up and threw in some carrots, all the good stuff.
About halfway through the day, the kids started texting saying there was something wrong with our dog. He’s a lab/ Dalmatian/ border collie mix.

I got in, and he was spazzed out. He’d look up at the ceiling and bark, and run down to the basement. He was shaking and in a dead panic. I laid next to him for a bit and got him to calm down a little. We went back upstairs, and he ran from the kitchen.

I started wondering if it was the smell of the lamb or something, so I pulled out the bone. I took him outside, and he got all excited seeing a bone in my hand. I threw it, and he ran up to it. The second he smelled it, he ran away.

I googled dogs and lamb, and a thousand posts popped up about dogs freaking out over the smell of it cooking.
He wouldn’t go in our kitchen for 3 days. A couple days later, my daughter threw some leftover in the microwave, and it was an instant reaction. He went into panic mode and was shaking again.
It was some of the weirdest shit I’d seen. It must be some type of genetic response with some of the herding dogs. I felt bad leaving that shit in the slow cooker all day.
It makes me wonder how much genetic baggage we carry with us though.
