+ 11 WARNIG....TOP FIVE SUPPLEMENT SCAMS

ad

When I was 12, my uncle bought me some cigarettes. And while I would have been happier at the time if he had sprung for some good weed instead, I was still happy to have something to toke on while enjoying a cold beer at the playground.
My joy soon turned to disappointment when I realized they were candy cigarettes, and it was then that I realized that not everything in this world is as advertised. That became even more apparent later on, when I discovered my "virgin" homecoming date had two kids from a guy named Tyrone who was away at "college" (i.e. state prison).

Shift to the world of fitness and the industry it has spawned:

We live in a society where con-artist supplement companies can legally sell you products that can kill you (and has killed many people), yet producing absolutely no results------while people who sell products that actually work AND help people in many ways are classified as drug dealers and imprisoned. If you go on You Tube and watch bodybuilding videos, you will see several that are psted by "TeamMuscletechvideos", showing Branch, Johnnie Jackson, Cutler, and many others where comments have either been disabled or comments with any mention of steroids are immediately deleted. We can't have the truth out there----that might impede sales. These sell-out, spineless bodybuilders keep their mouth shut out of fear of losing a buck, while gladly leading you to believe that they got to where they are by using worthless bullshit.....and have not an ounce of remorse for the money you lost or the damage you've done to your body, and that includes death, as two Marines found out the hard way while guzzling Jack3d. ERs all around the nation are reporting epidemic levels of visits due to pre-workout supps and energy drinks.
But lets not lose sight of the bigger picture here----the entire supplement industry is mostly a scam, and that includes most of the products they offer.
So here is a list in descending order of the Top Five supplements that are total, complete bullshit not worthy of your time, money, or a trip to the ER----or toilet when your ass Xplodes:

NUMBER 5.....WEIGHT GAINERS. If you're skinny, why would you think taking in a ton of unproductive calories is going to add muscle to your frame? Eat plenty of fish, chicken, rice, greens, beef, etc... If you're not skinny, then congratulations on your new roll of fat. That's why they call them "weight gainers". Want a good weight gainer???? Hit the fair and stock up on deep-fried Twinkies (when we get them back).

NUMBER 4.....PRE-WORKOUT DRINKS......My personal favorite is BSN Xplode, but I use a small amount to add caffine to my own personal pre-workout drink which I will describe in another article. Pre-workouts do NOTHING to build muscle-----absolutley nothing. They throw all these "college" studies around (conducted by teenagers majoring in phys Ed who are paid by supplement companies) to convince you they do------BULLSHIT.

NUMBER 3....FAT BURNERS...... In the documentery Bigger Faster Stronger, Christain Boeving made the mistake of telling the truth about fat burners (Hydroxycut) and was immediately fired by Muscletech for doing so. Fat burners are nothing more that a cup of coffee and a few herbs in pill form, and DO NOT work. The only thing you'll burn is a hole in your wallet.

NUMBER 2......CREATINE......Increased water retention and a little vasodilation does NOT mean added muscle. You may add a few pounds to your bench, but that will vaporize like virginity in a catholic orphanage as soon as you stop using it, and most often, even while you're using it due to the body's adaptive responses.

NUMBER 1........TEST BOOSTERS...... If test boosters raised T levels, doctors would prescribe them for TRT. Star athletes would eat them like candy. Police departments would place test-booster dispensers in the locker rooms, and the price for these pathetic products would fall like rain due to super-high demand. The only Testosterone boosters are anabolic steroids----END OF STORY. Even if they were to work at all, the amount of increase in Test wouldnt be enough to add muscle to a field mouse. They give them names that sound like steroids (like "T-BOL") and put them in packaging to make them look medical----and lock them up in the glass case at Vitamin World so women and Children are safe from contamination.....lyin-ass bitches. You can add the new generation of dick pills to this catagory----you've seen the infomercials where the grey-haired, 70 year old guy is sitting next to the hot, giggling 25 year old blonde who is still shaking from the orgasm that just keeps coming in waves. What a stud!!---and you can be too----for $69.95, all major credit cards accepted. By the way, the makers of Extenze were just sued and ordered to pay a huge fine for-----guess what-----false avdertising.

Ya my bro takes all the supps u named one company after another. But never gets any bigger but he gets poorer WTF. I use ISO 100 protien and a generic creatine research kept me away from the rest. Gonna start first cycle at 39 yrs old next month gonna blow his ass out the water lol.

CaptainSwole's picture

Glad I read this! I've never been one to take a lot of supplements usually just whey and aminos. I was thinking of adding creatine before I read this. Like PinPusher said, I just eat. That being said, are there any supplements ya'll take on a daily that you know for a fact actually do something?

7gothic's picture

Get a good protien powder Like ON's Gold Standard Whey....use it religiously in addition to meals.

CaptainSwole's picture

Okay, thanks! That's pretty much what I've been doing, but with cheap whey. I usually get about 250 grams of protein a day. 100 from whey the rest from food. Guess I'll splurge a bit and go with a better quality on the whey. Thanks again goth.

7gothic's picture

Good luck brother.

PinPusher's picture

Guy at the gym ask me, how did you get so big? Told him I cut out all the GNC supplements and added more food and he told me that I was going to lose my gains. Fitness world is so fake. I love walking in GNC all juiced and pumped up and walking back out with all my money still in my pocket. I've got to where I don't buy protein powders anymore, just fresh eggs. Lest I know for a fact whats really inside it!

i use kre alkalyne as a pre workout and vitamin b12 does that count i feel the kre alk gives me a good boost

Baby Herc's picture

Well Said... awesome article.

robb's picture

I'm happy to say whenever I walk past GNC it's usually empty, mainly teens I see in their when they do have customers.
I'm glad I never went down the supps road, I'd probably be fucked up on prohormones with my liver screaming for mercy by now lol.

And some of the prices is ridiculous, foods tasty n more sociable, can't really take your missus out for some mass builder followed by a creatine desert!

To me the whole bobybuilding supplement industry is a joke
The only thing i buy is protein and from "white brands" that dont inflate their prices because they dont need to pay pros for their ads.

7gothic's picture

Right on....maybe some Carbo-Gain if you're running slin.

mjh36's picture

This is great!! I've always tried to convince people of all of this and no one fucking listens lol

7gothic's picture

LOL...yeah, like youre talking about aliens or bigfoot.....like you're nuts ....lol

Creatine is so misunderstood as far as supplements go. It doesn't build muscle which is correct. However it has been shown to help increase 1RM when taken before a big lift and has been shown to enhance recovery by pulling more fluid and nutrients into the muscle cell.
The only preworkout I've heard and actually had some success with is superpump. You talk to bodybuilders(amateurs) and even former pros that aren't endorsed and a lot agree superpump by gaspari is legit. It's actually better taken intra workout because of the amino acids and electrolytes
The rest I agree with. I use to take weight gainers and all they did was add fat even on cycle. I made my own weight gainer from whole foods (very similar to Vikings) and I added muscle and strength

7gothic's picture

I certainly agree about the immediate stregth increases with creatine....interstitial water almost always contributes to a "rebound" during muscular contraction. Permanent, long-lasting strength and size increases are another mattter.
Superpump 250 is my choice for preworkouts.

aronl's picture

I agree with all you said but I know there have been some products- an older version of hydroxycut and a recently pulled product called 'Infinity' that were laced with active ingredients and actually were very potent. Infinity was found to contain Sibutramine and so was then pulled. Preparations like these hit the OTC market in waves, they get popular and sell, but eventually some fatty as an adverse effect and complains and then the jig is up when they test the product. There is a female cohort, albeit small, that dabbles and prowls the web for non-script phentermine and the like and they buy and sample and share notes like we do our gear here to find sources.

7gothic's picture

Thanks brother.... You know we've been here from the start.

Gotta say, I quit the PWOs because I keep building a tolerance to them, and they quickly become a waste of money for me. I wake up @ 415am and work a physical, finish and you're done kind of job, usually no less then ten hours, and I used to rely on the PWOs like I needed them....then I realized if I didn't use them I actually had the same level of workout, I just had to push MYSELF a little harder. Leg day and chest day if I have work all day first I may do a 5hr energy, that seems to do wonders for me and I really don't experience any crash, OR the shits that I get from some of the more stim heavy PWOs

Lee Priest is a big critic of preworkouts...and he seemed to do pretty well without them.

Good points wagz

Oh yea just remembered this one, when I was like 20-21 maybe and didn't know any better, I tried this "revolutionary" product called GAKIC (does any one else remember?). I swear this tasted like dog shit sautéed in sour goat milk, and after two days of making myself take this shit I tossed it...I can't remember the exact claims of the product if I can find them ill post them here for shits and giggles

Beta Alanine is the worst !
Lactic acid buffering will only give you nice pump, but you're basically buffering waste in your muscles.

Try it yourself. Next leg day load up on BA and go for it; write down your reps/sets.
Next leg day don't take any BA and run the same leg routine. You will be able to go for at least an extra set.

This has been tested on MMA fighters.
Non BA fighters recover 50% faster between rounds, due to lactic acid being released from muscles, allowing fresh blood to enter muscles.

That creatine bit was halarious!!! In Iraq I blew up on creatine. I came home and within a month I looked like I've never lifted! ! Haha

LOL

Coconut's picture

So your telling me test creatine won't get me jacked? The guy at gnc said all I need to get huge was $1,000 worth of sups from him a month. And this included pre-workout which he said would make me lift more weight and In turn increase mass. Test boosters would give me rock hard wood, aggression and make me leaner with more muscle. Mass gainers he said is needed to feed all these new huge bulging muscles. Creatine he said will make you ripped as hell along with keeping u all pumped up from lifting. I can't believe he lied!!!! I can't believe REAL food is better then these sups. I thought my DAA was steroids :( I so got duped! Welp heading to his store to break his neck hope he is ready. Thanks goth for exposing the truth ;)

7gothic's picture

LOL!!!

White Bolt's picture

Gonna have to disagree with your ranking of creatine being a useless supplement, champ. But you're pretty spot on with the rest of your list. Pre-workout is for amateurs in my opinion -- people who don't have to motivation or the will the hit up the gym and that need that shot of crack to get them off their ass. I used to love the stuff, but as the years passed, lifting just becomes a fundamental part of your daily routine and coffee does just the trick just fine if you're sluggish.

Steroids all the way.

7gothic's picture

Gonna have to disagree with your ranking of creatine being a useless supplement

Creatine WILL make you bigger and stronger....But the size is all water , and the strength is coming from (believe it or not) ... the water. When the water goes, so does that hot blond who picked you for those 20's..lol
Not saying there isnt some fascia-stretching benefites to that...there may well be.

Im just pissed about the lying virgin prom date

Fred G.Sanford's picture

So your telling me that this once daily fat burner won't work I mean all the Olympia guys use it. It has
Adipose tissue regulator
CNS Stimulant
And Dopamine modulator
LOL your 100% right it's all about the marketing! I just seen this in a fitness mag!
I do like a pre workout for a pick me up tho.

levelup's picture

one thing im guilty of using is preworkout...i know that they dont do shit for muscle gains but a little stimulant boost is need after a long day. i grew out of doing a rail up each nostril before working out so i had to replace it with something

a little stimulant boost is need after a long day

Ain't that the truth. I work out at the end of the day and a dose of pre-workout (recommended dose) is a huge help.

SexWeightsProteinShakes's picture

i thought this site was pretty cool for checking out different protein powders they tested on...here is on 100% whey that tons of people buy

https://labdoor.com/review/optimum-gold-standard-whey

7gothic's picture

Thanks!

cdyrdes's picture

Only thing I buy is protein (on 100% whey) mocha cappuccino. But I count this as a food used to "supplement" in my diet. When your taking in anywhere from 4000-7000 calories and 300g of protein and up it can be hard at times to chew through all that in a days time so the quick drinkable protein is a nice addition and kinda curbs the sweetooth. Bsn xplode is about the only pwo I use but a tub last me months, I only use it on mostly leg day just for the extra boost in energy (caffeine)

7gothic's picture

Protien??
Assuming the manufacturer is legit, protien powders are absolutely indespensible.
I rely on 3-4 shakes per day.... NO bodybuilder would be without it.
The rest of this stuff is laughed at by serious bodybuilders.

7gothic's picture

There is no scientific evidence that protein help recovery or performance

WTF?? that's absolutely not true.
After bieng in this game for decades, I can tell you right now that protien is THE most critical element in diet....PERIOD.
Cut your protien out and watch your gains grind to a halt.
Come onto a steroid forum and start telling guys that they don't need protien, and you're going to get laughed out of here real quick.
