Torn rotator cuff and cycle...
ad
Here is my dillema... Im on TRT and have occasionally taken more test than prescibed, with great results.. Im on my 4th week of a test e 500/w cycle (1st one). I felt it coming on in the past but worked through it. I now have a full thickness rotator cuff tear and cannot raise my arm above the shoulder. Ortho after an MRI says surgery!!! no option.. QUESTION: Shuld I continue the cycle and just work muscles that I can? or drop down to TRT dose and wait for recovery. Havent trained in a few days and it sucks But I can have big legs and a six pack untill I heal.. Advice and /or encouragement needed thanks bros

hopefully healed up by now?
RustyhookerCatalyst just went thru an injury with surgery. He's a good dude. Pick his brain or ask if he can pop info here.
RustyhookerSorry, just saw older thread...
I won't comment on your continued gear usage, but through my own personal experiences from a full tear to my left rotator cuff and a 55% partial tear to my right just 7 months later, the surgery is going to suck, Mate.
The pain involved from the injury itself was a pain in the proverbial ar$e. But the pain from the surgery afterwards was f-ing ludicrous. I'm NOT trying to scare you, Mate. I'm just being honest with you. You're going to become best buddies with your pharmacist for your pain meds after the surgery that you NEED to get done.
When I injured myself, I tried being the big hero for almost 3 weeks before finally getting my left shoulder checked out. I knew I'd done something serious to something in my shoulder because I couldn't even raise my arm up my back to scratch it when needed. When I discovered I'd torn the rotator cuff, I thought to myself, "Hell. A couple of weeks and I'll be fine). It took a FULL 8 MONTHS before my doctor gave me the all clear to start lifting again, (On the same day he cleared me for my left, he gave me my surgery due date for my right to be repaired). And that time frame is the norm for rotator cuff injury and surgery recovery, Mate.
As I said, I'm NOT trying to scare you, just give you the facts. But DON'T expect to be back in the gym within a few days/weeks lifting again after your surgery. It's NOT going to happen.
MAYBE it's an idea for you to end your current cycle now and save your gear for when you can start lifting and cycling again.
It has been awhile since the last update on your shoulders, How did the right partial tear turn out?
Age 63. Tore rotator cuff lifting at age 61. Complete tear but can raise my arm and somedays no pain. My "famous" ortho guy (lifter himself and cut...prob uses some roids) told me "NO, do not stay out of the gym BEFORE surgery at all. If you do, your shoulder will freeze. Continue to lift the same, he said, but always be able to see your hands (nothing behind back or too far to side). Was supposed to have surgery. Ins. dropped and have not had anything done. Continue to lift 3 x a week (heavy) and most days the shoulder hurts, but not too badly. Nothing like the first year. Bad, I guess, not to have it fixed, but in my case it seems ok. Been an ER nurse for 35 years. Prob NOT ok, but I am quite insane.
Hi randy, I can share my experience if youre interested. I had surgery in march. Things are better but not the same. FR sent.
Yhanks Mazte, iv heard that the recovery pain is terrible. ive had jumbar surgery with a 9 inch incision. That took about 9 months to get back to normal. Im jut looking for a silver lining and trying to avoid depression. Ive aleady stopped training and started booze and pills to sleep. NOT GOOD. TOmmorrow I will hit the gym and ee what doesnt require any shoulder support. Ill add a few more legs in for the next few weeks.. Surgery is scheduled for feb 13. I will run my gear until then then drop dose to TRT. Thaks again
As I've already said, Mate. The pain from the injury itself is NOTHING compared to the pain after the surgery is performed to put things right again. If you're using that arm to wipe your butt, FORGET IT. Get used to using your other arm. If you use that arm to primarily drive single handed with, FORGET IT. Get used to using your other arm. If you use that arm to primarily reach for something off a high shelf, FORGET IT. Get used to using your other arm. If you use that arm to primarily play with your Mrs' bits, FORGET IT. Get used to using your other arm. (Get what I'm trying to tell you?) This surgery IS going to have a HUGE impact on your life in the coming months afterwards.
When I was originally told by my surgeon that I wouldn't be back in the gym for a MINIMUM of 6-8 months after my surgery, I just laughed at him. "You REALLY don't know me that well, Doc". Now take into account, I weighed around 255lbs at the time, with a body built from over 15 years of working out and cycling on the juice, and I stood proud with my dedicated lifestyle. "No. But I do know what a rotator cuff injury does to the body and what the effects of the surgery afterwards does too", he replied.
You don't have to guess which one of us was right, because I've already told you how long I was out for. In total, a little shy of 18 months for full recovery of both rotator cuffs.
I remember talking to my Mrs' a few days before the first surgery and telling her, "My legs are going to be f-king huge from all of the workouts they're going to have. If I cant work my top half, then I'll just concentrate on legs". OH, HOW WRONG WAS I. Until you've injured a major part of your body, such as the shoulders, you'll be surprised just how restrictive the injury has on EVERYTHING you do in the gym. Seated Leg Curls? You hold onto the side of the seat for extra force and balance. Leg Curls? Again, you hold onto the side grips for that extra hold to get the extra pump. Squats? FORGET THEM. Having a bar across the shoulders is simply NOT going to happen and I don't care how much padding you're thinking of putting on the bar to protect them. I recently bought myself that Manta Ray contraption that fits onto the bar and rests on your shoulders to help spread the weight more evenly on the shoulders. I still cant put my arms back far enough to hold onto the bar when trying to do squats, the pain and stiffness in the cuffs are just too restricting to do them. Deadlifts? Really? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Even trying to work the abs puts immense strain on the upper body and ultimately the injury will just refuse to play ball with you.
I'm NOT trying to pi$$ you off, Mate. I'm TRULY not. But I do live by my saying, "Truth, Good Or Bad, It Has To Be Told".
I have already gone through what you're going through now and are about to go through too. And from your reply to my original comment, you mentioned something that also hit me like a 4 x 2 across the back of the head. DEPRESSION. Throughout my life I had always turned my face away from individuals suffering from it. I used to think that they just had to get a good grip of themselves, grow themselves a bigger set of balls and grow the f-k up. Oh HELL NO. When that Double D Bitch comes into ones life, she takes no prisoners. She doesn't care how proud of a person you are, she'll just chew you up and spit you right back out. And she NEVER leaves you. The docs can give you pills to help you feel better about life for a few hours, or maybe just a few minutes of the day, but Double D Bitch is ALWAYS f-king with you. The ONLY way of getting back up and out from underneath that rock you've crawled under is accepting and realizing that the sun still shines even when the grey clouds are out. You just have to learn to look for the positives in everything again, instead of just the negatives. And believe me, there is ALWAYS a bigger negative to be found when that's all you want to accept, Mate.
(Do I still suffer from depression? Simple. Once someone has allowed Double D into their lives, She becomes a permanent lodger within their thought patterns. So, yes, I do at times. But nowhere near as bad as I once did. I can now recognize the signs and the negatives in most situations which helps me to consciously make my decisions based on positive and constructive thought patterns).
But know this. There IS a HUGE silver lining afterwards that you're searching for, Mate. I PROMISE YOU.
And it's so simple to realise it, it sounds like you're already overlooking it. Once you've had your surgery, things WILL get better. You WILL heal. You WILL start to wake up in the mornings again and forget to take your pain meds because you'll realise that you no longer need them and THAT is when it'll hit you like a 4 x 2 that you're getting back up again. Your body will be doing all it can to repair itself after the surgery, you just have to remember to give it the time it needs to do what it does best. Just DON'T try being a hero and going back to the gym too early when you know full well that you're not ready to return yet. (Believe me. You'll know, Mate). And when you do get back in the gym, get used to using LIGHT WEIGHTS at first. Because if you try to be the hero of the dumbbell rack just to show insignificant onlookers that you're back, the potential for re-hurting and tearing the cuff again doesn't bare thinking about.
Yes, I'm undoubtedly going to get flamed for this reply to you, and for it's length, BUT I TRULY DON'T GIVE A DAMN. If my past pains and experiences of this injury can help you, then I hope my 'Truth, Good Or Bad, It Has To Be Told', approach and reply to you will be taken as it was intended.
PLEASE read this reply for what it is meant to do. It's simply written to help you realise that you have a VERY serious injury, that you REALLY do not want to take lightly and/or think that you'll be lifting again in just a few short days or week. It's simply NOT going to happen, Mate. A torn Rotator Cuff injury and resulting surgery SUCKS!!! Just look at how many world class athletes, baseball players, NFL quarterbacks, etc, have lost their careers because of this exact same injury. Just know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. You WILL recover. Just give yourself all the time you need to recover. And if that Double D Bitch comes knocking, tell her to f-k off. She's not wanted or needed.
Best regards for a full and speedy recovery, Mate
Hey mate that was quite the advice.. I know that you are right and im having trouble fully grasping and accepting DD i can handle , ive been there before and have alot of people to support me. I dont know about the wiping my ass part though???. You have taken alot of your time to help me see the light and I have.
thank you for your time and ill will pass it on good luck
I hoped you'd understand where I was coming from with my words, Mate.
NOT preaching. Just trying to help you realise what's ahead of you.
But what you also need to remember, something I thought of after writing my essay above, (LOL), you HAVE got the strength to get through this. You're a Brother-Of-Steel, for goodness sake. There are not many people in this world who bash their bodies everyday, to the very limits of our bodies endurance like we do and then get up the following day and go and do the exact same again and again and again.
That's what makes us BODYBUILDERS, Mate ;)
IF I can be of any help to help you get through this $hit, even if you just need A Mate To Talk To when/if the frustration gets a little too much at times, I'm just a P.M away.
As you now know, I have personally traveled along the road you're about to journey on. I know how bumpy that road is at times, so IF you need A Mate, I'll be more than happy to answer your call, Mate.
A Friends Request has been sent to you and a +1 has been given too. (Just to give you a little smile and a little Karma too).
Best regards.
OK I feel a little uncomfortable putting this in writing. But i appreciate your kindness and i am comfortable in my manhood. I just came back from an americican foot ball party in pain to see your responce. This is what this shit is al about.... I thank you for your advice and hope that you continue to help other members as will I. I am trying and will accept this bump in my life. I will come through it. I have had a serious back surgery and made it through. I have lost 65 lbs in 90 days through commitment and diet. I have built an awesome phsisique killing at the gym. You ARE giving me the insight of making it through. I accept your friendship and am pleased to do so. IMO motivational speaking is in your future Thanks mate I will keep you up to date
(LOLOL) You manhood is 100% safe with me, Mate. (LOLOL)
(LOL) My writings in response to your issue is in NO WAY covered in glitter and sequins. I am a purely, unadulterated pu$$y man that my wife will happily confirm on a daily basis (LOL).
When I read your original posting, and before I commented to you, I checked your stats, (As I try to do with EVERYONE before I reply to them), and what I discovered made me smile. We are the same age, I am 2 inches taller than you, I am currently holding 26 lbs on you @ 196lbs and my latest body fat measurement was 17%. So at our age, of course I'm going to be able to understand some of the pressures that you're currently going through right now because of this issue. (THAT was another reason why I commented to you, Mate).
So don't worry, my writings to you are in NO-WAY, gay B.S. related.
When I was diagnosed with lung cancer 18 months ago, the amount of help and support I received from within our Eroids community was truly humbling. From our Brothers and Sisters-In-Steel, I was receiving daily get well soon messages, personal prayers being passed on to help keep my spirit up and all kinds of best regards messages from individuals I had never spoken to before. Hell, I also received HUGE care packages from BIG Ronnie Coleman himself, as well as Jay Cutler and the mighty Bob Fountaine from Age Badly Clothing too because I had to spend my 45th birthday in the I.C.U at the Florida hospital I was in.
So why shouldn't I help a fellow Brother in his time of need too? ESPECIALLY WITH AN ISSUE I CAN FULLY RELATE TOO.
I will further advise you of this too. IF times do start getting a little tougher on you than you were expecting over the next few months, DON'T forget about our community. There are some AWESOME individuals with us in here who are only to happy to help raise a brother or sister back up when he/she needs supporting. That's just one of the foundations and qualities within our community and it's members that is constantly being built on, on a daily basis.
We're ALL here to help each other, Mate. Not just on the good days, but the NOT so good ones too.
Best regards to you and yours.
I'm gonna get flamed for this. If you can support the bar in a squat as well as leg press and I know this is wishful thinking, but if u can still deadlift and even row u got enough big muscle groups to work to finish the cycle. And, yes stay on GH. Sounds like no option on the surgery. I had a distal biceps tendon tear last summer that was around 50% and they wanted to cut. Using GH it healed on it's own. The surgeon said he couldn't ethically prescribe GH to me but if I wanted to try - go ahead. Success!
Im sure there are some exercises I can do without shoulder support I will test tommorrow. surgery on feb 13th I will continue the test e 500/w till then and train legs like a madman... I hav to stay positive thanks gearhead
If your not gonna do surgery bro IMO I would drop the gear stay on perscribed trt. You will hurt it worse trust me I was like u about 5 years ago and now I'm paying the price.
Thanks GJ did you recover well? did you get your strength back? I am very concerned about a reinjury.. This shit is dpressing. had back surgry in 2012 Dont get old !!!!
I'm still weaker on that side wear it was torn never fully regained full range of movement but I kept training and pushed through it now I'm paying the price for it, If your able to have the surgery I would do it
What price is that if I may ask? "another complete torn rotator cuff guy"
Hey RG... How long is the estimated recovery time?
its orthoscopic? 3 weeks fully immobile in sling. a couple of weeks with p/t maipulating manually ... no exercise i will return to work but avoid lifting. They are vague about recovery from all the bs id say 16 weeks before regular light weight exercise 26 weeks before slamming .. Ive been running gh for 7 months and will continue ... Im not sure if I should still run gear so I dont WASTE while in recovery. Any advice is appreciates. i have plenty of test both e and c, var, winny etc. and GH I definitly dont want to get natty.
