Talking to a Doctor about using Steroids; Anyone done it?
ad
Just curious if anyone has talked to a PCP about taking steroids and if so how helpful they were on the topic? Not asking if they prescribed you anything, I am asking if you have discussed taking them, blood work you may need why cycling, dosages, drug interactions, PCT therapy, etc.
To my understanding Doctors have to assist you in this process, just not the process of obtaining them and administering them.

You've got to find the right Doctor that specializes in HRT/TRT.

If I could give a thumbs up to those pictures I would! Awesome stash you have there.
I tell my doc, first time I ever spoke with him I told him I use steroids and cycle when i want to.
I agree with if you don't have that relationship and think they will be open minded to it, then I would not say anything! I don't think the benefits outweigh the risk of them classifying you as a steroid user. As mentioned, they will blame everything on the steroids because of the general consensus view of them. There are other reasons you can give to get blood work to check where you stand. That being said, I do believe every doctor will be different it just depends on your relationship with them and over time you can get a feel for how they will react. More times they not they can tell if you are on.
Well I had some pretty serious issues medically last spring. I went over EVERYTHING with my doctors. Come to find out I know more about this shit than they did. And right away they wanted to blame all my problems on AAS. Turned out to be bullshit and I dodged a bullet in that they never reported it to my insurance company. Fuck that! Do your research. Learn how to be tested properly. What to look for in your blood work and monitor your own labs. Don't tell them shit! You are risking too much.
Anonworking the early shift huh? not sure why im awake, I went to bed 3 hours ago :/
Doctors, contrary to belief don't know it all and most of their knowledge is generic (sore throat gets "x" medicine) etc. In Med-school they are never taught about what running dbol, test and deca cycles will do to ones body, although they do know the feedback systems, hormone secretory glands etc. In some senses, they are just extremely educated robots - when they leave the room, they generally go hop on their tablet or computer to peruse through the possible choices of whats wrong with you. The medicines they push is all based on what they're getting from the pharma reps - which in some cases aren't even appropriate to treat people, which ive seen first hand..
bottom line - don't tell your doctor shit about your hormone use unless he's someone you grew up with and are actually friends with. Ive seen steroid related issues in the ER before and the first thing the doctors do once they realize they have no clue what is going on, is call in a team of internals to start picking away at the issue.
AnonDef would have to agree keep cards close to vest with 99% of the docs you talk to last thing you want is it part of your medical record.
Most docs don't understand anabolics or the bodies hormones in general. In medical school about a month is given to the whole endocrine system and you loose what you don't use and quite frankly not many docs are dealing in hormones. I dont think its unreasonable to discuss hormones with a doctor just make sure its the right one like an endocrinologist and don't divulge exogenous intake. I can guarantee that unless you have a simple thyroid problem a primary care doc wont be of much help. In fact, their aversion to the topic in general is usually driven by there preconceived negative opinions impressed by the media and the fear of the unknown!
StevebDoctors don't fix anything, they just treat symptoms with drugs that cause more problems.
AnonThe Damn Chiari Problem I had... My doctor would never send me to get an MRI, he kept thinking there was a pill that would fix it. He thinks there is a pill for everything. I went to the emergency room and all they would give me is a Cat Scan and told me that I probably had a bad ear infection. I went back to my doctor and gave him an ear full and he said: "I'll send you to get an MRI, it isn't my damn money"
He sure had egg on his face when it came back that there was something actually wrong with me. I think he gets a kickback from saving the insurance money.
AnonIt's true not all doctors are created equal. Theres always the saying that you know what they call the guy who graduated last in medical school. DOCTOR! I am in the field and unfortunately its like anything else people who care and those that don't, people who are smart and those that aren't. Usually the more driven and individual the higher ranked the more likely they'll choose a specialty a lot of times because it pays more. Not that there are not great primary care providers but a lot of them are the ones who couldn't match into a specialty. I'm glad you finally got your MRI, if your not happy with your doctor get a second opinion as I said they're not created equal and if the doctor seems offended when you seek a second opinion then that shows their insecurities. As for kick backs from insurance nah... The horrible health care system as a whole is to blame for delay to care and the need to have tried everything cheap first!
they don't get kick backs from insurance. The actual pharmaceutical companies have representatives that will give a doctor a check for every prescription they write for their drug.
Most drugs are standardized so the copays will just be higher if it goes above a certain amount. Usually the insurance company pays the same amount for different drugs, the difference comes out of your pocket. If you have a good PPO and a doctor who CARES about your health, you can make an appeal to have your drug of choice covered if your doc can prove to them that the other "therapeutically equivalent" drugs do not work and the uncovered drug does. Most the time they will deny it but then the second time around the insurance company comes to an agreement.
Insurance companies will try to switch you to generic or another 'therapeutically equivalent' drug.
I wouldn't blame doctors for all this ruckus though, it's the insurance companies that are fucking us over. Some doctors can't wrap their heads around the fact that generics sometimes do NOT work, which is when it's time to find a new doctor.
And the early shift? I am up at the butt crack of dawn every day brother
That sounds about right. I couldn't believe how little they knew about any of it. I have a buddy on trt. His ENDO has him on 200mg of cyp every 2 weeks (that in itself is stupid) with Nolvadex. He missed a couple doses and he will have the worst estro rebound he can imagine. They don't know dick.
testaholicMaybe I was just extremely lucky.....I came to my Dr about coming off. I had been on testosterone for about a year. I told him that I was a competitive bodybuilder and that I just needed a break (the wifes idea) but that I would be running future cycles. He was blown away by my knowledge on the subject. He said most Dr's have limited knowledge on this subject and was floored when he looked up in his lil computer the protocol for coming off because I told him I already had nolvadex, and clomid, and all I needed from him was legit hcg. We had my blood tested, it was sky high, he wrote for the hcg, I stopped my injects and my levels descended into womanish standards. We had bloods done again, and despite the pct they were way low. We both knew there was a good chance that would happen. He said they was nothing more he could do for me. He referred me to my endo.
I was very honest and straight forward with this Dr as well. He says he respected that and called what I had a "medical condition" I walked out with a scrip for test e Watson 200mg every other week. Wee had bloods done, I made sure they were low, he upped the Watson to 200mg every week. I doubt he'll go higher so I don't push it. Its a nice cruise between my blasts. Maybe one day a few years down the road I'll ask about gh...
Anonthat's what my endo gave me 200mg cyp every 2 weeks and nolvadex!
Depending on your relationship, you should get a good idea of what the reaction may be. If its a long time doctor and that topic has probably came out in one form or another, then maybe. But my overall sense is to admitting it will not really help the situation (generally) but only hurt. Again, you have those rare doctors who might be on TRT or something themselves and are open to it. But if that was the case, you would just know and not question it
they will know nothing about them
endocrinologists do though and if you say something , you will be black marked in your insurance file as an injectable drug abuser ..its best to not discuss it at all, but discuss any sides you have, its kinda fucked up they may wonder why your cholesterol is high but whether they know the root cause of not the treatment will be no different.
I will say they will not notify police or really care that you use them, They would request you stop immediately and most likely run extensive blood work if you told them directly and tell you they are dangerous for your health because flat out they ARE. Test is the least harmful AAS of all, winny and some of the orals are the harshest on the human body!
lastly do you need to tell your doctor about a health issue related to steroids, then do so your health is number one and it would greatly help solve your issue
I wanted some bloodwork done a few months ago to see what my natural levels are, my doctor turned around and straight up asked " are you supplementing testosterone" with no mention of any form of it prior to that.
If your dry humping the exam table it's kind of a tell.
Haha I would take that as a compliment.
Wardi77More than likely its because of the fact that he probably already suspected you were on by the looks of your physique.
The insights everyone has provided are awesome. Thanks everyone to sharing your experiences. This is what makes Eroids what it is. People sharing experiences to help others and not passing what they heard from some dude in the gym 3 years ago.
When i went to see my dermatologist about my acne problem he ran bloodwork to check my liver enzymes and at the time i was on a cycle and they were a bit high. He knew right away, lol. Pretty smart dude, so i was honest with him, he was very cool about it, i did not and will not go into details about it with him, but i was honest.
All my medical shit is out of pocket, so im not too worried about any med files.
Did he prescribe or were you already using any prescription acne medicine I.E. accutane? Always wondered what the drug interaction or symptoms of taking a drug that I believe thins your blood would be like while on juice.
Ya, he wrote me a script for accutane, but i never filled it, i honestly cant afford it. Perscription accutane is like $10 for each 20mg tablet,so at 40mg ed ( which is what he recommended ),i just cant afford $20 a day. I went with a source on here for my accutane and he agreed to monitor me while i'm on it. He was pretty cool about it.
I'm going to get more bloods done to see what effect it has while in on my cycle, but at the low dose that i am on which is 20mg per day, i should be fine. Liver enzymes are always an issue while on accutane, not to mention AAS use aswell.
Oh and my acne never got better, if not worse
Just be careful bro.. I just got done taking it, had to stop early because i had ibs from it and lost 10 pounds . Was feeling sick for a month after I took it, My stomach is slowly getting better. My face is still burning and sunlight burns. I was on 40mg a day
You acne got worse? Man that sucks! Was it perscription? Mine is almost none existant and im only 4 weeks in.
my sister in law is a nanny for two indian doctors, i talk to them about it openly. they are both impressed with my knowledge and dedication to doing it right, and have openly said that i probably do a better job myself than my family doc could do. i actually have got the male docs intrigue to a point where he has been researching anti aging and trt credentials.
your gonna be hooked the Fucc up bro!!! with a friend like that! NICE!
damn 200mg Pharma test Cyp a week would be awesome !
i will still do my thing. if i need blood work done ill hit him up for sure.
StevebIf its an HMO don't even think about it.
I've been with my Family Doctor for many many years. When I discussed my steroid use and told him I wanted to get on Doctor Prescribed cycles, he was extremely open to it. He was very helpful in getting my bloodwork faxed over to my HRT/TRT clinic. He admitted that his knowledge of AAS was limited and that as long as we did bloodwork to track my progress he was ok with me getting compounds from a clinic that specialized in AAS. Every doctor will have a different opinion on this subject. I guess I'm lucky to have a cool Doc.
Yeah I would say you are one of few! My wife's dad is a PCP but he would never be open to the idea of doing my blood work and shit. And I would never get the inlaws involved with that part of my life haha. Just out of curiousity is your doc an old school long practicing doctor or what? Just curious to see what generation of doctor we are talking about!
Correct. Old school and way cool. He told me he used to prescribe Winstrol and Test to some of the university football players but were talking about long long ago. I think he might of done some Gyno surgery in his office too. But like I said, long long ago. He wouldn't get me the AI, PCTs and hormones I get legally prescribed but was all for it as long as he monitored my bloodwork. Also, my TRT/HRT is all out of pocket. I wouldn't even try and go through my insurance
Doc sounds like a bodybuilder at heart, need more Docs like him. Sounds like my linebacker coach from college. He was a vetonarian though but extremely old school. Use to come up to us yelling, grab our facemask and head bunt our helmets. Would have prob been a good source if I had kept in touch, he use to give pills to my buddies but I never cared to ask what they were or anything. Thanks for your responses, appreciate it.
Wardi77They will certainly advise you not to dabble with it. They will do the blood work, but will definitely be against you using AAS. It's not that they know nothing about AAS, because they do. After all, they are MD's and are quite knowledgeable with practice of medicine, but their knowledge as far as AAS are concerned, does not go beyond the medical aspects of AAS. They know of steroids being given to burn victims, HIV patients to prevent muscle wasting etc They will advise you dont use them for the simple fact that they do not want you f*cking yourself up and running back to them asking for help when the situation was completely unnecessary to begin with. Now, if it were TRT then thats a different story due to the fact that they will have to monitor you and prescribe you test, AI's as well as monitor your blood work and the whole 9 yards.
Awesome insight over this topic, I figured they will advise against it and what not buy figured they would still do the basics to make sure you continue to stay healthy and not screw yourself up. The usa has places where crack heads can go and shoot up with clean needles and the helpful watch of a nurse, figured juice heads didn't get discriminated against haha.
^"The usa has places where crack heads can go and shoot up with clean needles and the helpful watch of a nurse"
sadly we do not, we have needle exchanges but you can not use drugs legally anywhere in the USA...the UK and Netherlands has clinics like that though
Echoing what's been said, Vancouver does have a place like what I said. The USA has methadone clinics, it's different to some extent though. And you are correct on the needle exchange as well.
Methadone is a whole problem in itself ..... Seems it is just as addictive as the drugs it is used to get people off of.
more addictive but longer half life so patients can dose once daily and go to work ,vs short half life and they need to boot up every 4 hours thus cant work.
I believe Vancouver, BC also has safe sites for iv drug users, they tried to do this in Toronto also but it got shot down, as it should.
If your insurance finds out they'll drop you. What's the benefit of your doc knowing? It's not like he/she is going to help you get your roid on.
If its reported in your medical file your insurance company could find out and drop you...it's a fine line, personally ill have my own blood work done and if there is a problem go to the doc then
No kidding? I never even thought of that. Thanks for the insight!
no way!!! nvmd i aint going to tell him shit!!
i tried to talk about it with the doc. i told him at an appointment last year that i planned on using steroids, specifically testosterone. and lets just put it this way, he is never going to be helpful to me. he is unwilling to help me with blood work and pct items, and warns that they cause liver and kidney disease...
he told you he would not put you in for bloodwork? so if an alcoholic came to him for bloodwork to check his liver values would he say no to that as well? your doctor is an idiot and Insuggest you find a new one.
Doctors are supposed to help people with their health in an unbiased and non judgmental manner regardless of their personal opinion of your life choices.
Sorry if I am coming across as butthurt and hostile but A LOT of doctors need to do their job, which isnt just pushing pills and seeing their patients for 2 minutes at a time.
my doc wont give me the hormone panel that would be most useful when juiceing. (test, estradiol, etc).. i have all the other standard blood tests done tho.
