+ 58 SHUT THE HELL UP!!

ad

I’ve seen some boneheaded posts lately that harkens back to the old days on eroids. Perhaps it’s time to go over again what should be common sense.

KMC and I used to try and guess where and who people were based on the seemingly harmless posts peppered throughout the site. All together they would paint a picture. How old you are, city or state of where you live, car you drove, marital status, number and sex of kids, school you went to, military service, what ball teams you support, where you were born, etc, etc…

If you think it’s a joke I’ll give you an example(facts have been changed). Over the period of 6 months a user with the handle BFG posted that he was in the midwest, supported the Twins, was 45 years old, and referenced a high school in Canada. He was married with 2 kids and a dog and drove a GMC.

I subtracted 18 from his age to figure out his high school graduating year. I looked up the yearbook from the schools website (and classmates.com) and perused the pages of the seniors and found Billy Franklin Gates. A face book search for Billy in the twin cities area showed me pictures of Billy sitting on the tailgate of his truck with his 2 kids and dog.

Many of you LOVE your handle. You use it everywhere. Again, a Google search will show me everywhere you’ve posted and sometimes leads me again to a social website like face book or eHarmony.

My suggestion: SHUT THE HELL UP!!

…You might want to spread a bit of misinformation around.

That goes for sources too! Supply a good product at a good price and don't screw over anyone. Lots of us are geeky IT guys on here that juuuust so happen to have "killer bodies" too. (all puns intended)

Uncrownedking13's picture

It's like people forget all this shit is illegal. I actually had someone argue with me about it the other day. They didn't know steroids were illegal. And no, they were not trolling.

It is something very important to think about, I am grateful for having read this, thank you I will be more careful in what I share

AK80's picture

I've saved a few butts (hopefully I think) by quickly PM'ing people that had too much stuff in the pictures they've uploaded.

Man you should fight cyber crime or something. that's crazy you can find out so much with so little

AK80's picture

Some of us do ;-)

Jaxattax86's picture

It’s actually a lot easier than you think. There are so many ways to search for someone, and if you have the time, can find them. Especially like he said if you’re posting your whole life story out here.

Spitting nothing but truth brother

You have made a very valid point my good man. I think we all just questioned how good we covered our selves after reading that. Lol I just done 7 years for trafficking. Not steroids but either way some states don't play. My first two felonies too. Food for thought..

sfr0's picture

Hey incase you fella's forgot - SHUT THE HELL UP

Achak's picture

This is a great post. People think steroids aren't a big deal. It is so common within the workout community that people brush aside the legal ramifications. I am a pretty paranoid person so I purposely take steps to hide my identity and to throw people off my real trail. This post goes hand in hand with my post on remaining anonymous on the internet.

Great advice. Sometimes, less is more.

mrbones's picture

This is just a crazy thread. I can’t even imagine what they can find!!!

KMC's picture

What you don't want them to find is you.

Don't leave breadcrumbs and don't paint targets.

Guys be careful and do not disclose so much about yourselves in here as it can be traced back to you way too easy.

Keep safe.

Yet you already posted your name in another post, while making other posts fanboying a source...

vhman's picture

You were directed to the rules when you signed up and is specifically states no source or brand talk in the forums. You made several posts in the forums naming your “favorite” source. You made a review (without actally reviewing the gear), so you know where you can talk about it.
That’s what’s wrong.

vhman's picture

Sounds like a good plan.

Totally Agree, I had to learn the hard way when i used my gaming profile on my swingers website some time back..... Yea made for interesting sex encounters known as Gods Wraith on a swingers site.... (WOW) LMAO

pickle's picture

Hopefully "Gods Wraith" is not your real old gamer tag or you just did exactly what Greg said not too.

jimw's picture

will said

kevro's picture

This is good to know!!!

lookie's picture

This hits close to home also if you have tattoos blank them out. I found out the hard way how easy it is for someone to find and harass you just from your tattoos. Now I have some fucktard trying to blackmail/harass me on Facebook. Seriously people have nothing better to do nowadays

bolitekurac's picture

Since this is from 2013
I'd add
Do not take UHD pictures. Guy was busted in England from a photo of his fingerprints, on a beer glass that he was drinking from.

lookie's picture

Yes also when you take a picture it attaches your location to it so make sure you have an app to remove your location from your picture and make sure your phone privacy settings don’t allow location for your camera

Pale's picture

We scrub the Geo-tag when you post it here

Fangsharp's picture

Just read this. I was wondering about that. Appreciated obviously

bolitekurac's picture

Just turn off your "Geo Tagging" in picture settings.

I live under a bridge, and steal my WiFi from the Waffle House.
Yep you can also track people down with the meta data attached to their post not all the time, It depends on the site and security.
I operated one forum, before the new leaps in security and had to block most of the IP address in China.
Hahahahaha
Funny but it is actually true.

Solidly's picture

This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. We live in this age where everything is on the net. Social media has taken over. Im still surprised at some of the things people post. Then how one site can lead to another and to another.....and so on. People are becoming so used to entering and storing info in devices and on web sites/apps its 2nd nature. Just like there are criminals that use this to steal from you, the flip side is also true your city or towns LE has someone surfing around seeing what they can see....
