+ 3 Ruptured Bicep Tendon and Recovery
Recently I ruptured my Distal Biceps Tendon and went several months without training, but have (after cast, brace that was too small it wouldn't fit so had to immobilise in a sling) I have finally been released from physio.
Told of course Steroids were too blame by nurses, advised also to remain on them by surgeons. The physio is amazed at how well supination, rotation etc is, although I'm still training whole body every other day with extremely (for me) light weights.
I have been powerlifting for many years but am actually enjoying 3 sets of 10 reps, primarily (under physio advice) using machines, feeling the muscle working.
What I have found beneficial is not locking out to full extension (often wondered why many pros didn't do that). After the cast came off, my left arm had grown half an inch to 18.5, my injured arm was 16 ish. Now after a short time training it's back to 17ish while my left has lost it's mysterious extra half inch!
I was doing the 5th rep of 255kg Deadlifts, a normal weight and below my best when the rupture occurred.
The best help I had during this time was from the guys who took time out to chat via PM with me, some not even mentioning the injury, other than to wish me luck, and that was appreciated. This is a community of like-minded people, and I still kept coming on here to hear the banter etc.
It would have been easy for me to fall into a bad place, start drinking etc, but seeing the progress of you guys and the strong mental attitude really helped me. So.... If any of you ever have a injury setback and feel like a very large part of your life is ruined, keep popping back, read up, learn some things (use the time you would be training normally), so that if all goes well and you get back you'll have renewed enthusiasm!
Thank you guys!

Hey guys, i had pinned my biceps on wensday and it seemed all good, i knew there would be soreness and maybe some redness for bout 2 days from what the research said but then on day 3 it was still red, i pinned at the peak of the bicep and the redness is on the inside of my bicep, has anyone had this before and if so any tips
Could be reaction, could be allergy to oil perhaps, high concentration of compound, imperfect pinning (ie movement). Had redness before to be honest but been pinning for years! Does it feel like anything under the skin (hard or squidgy lump?) did you use new alcohol wipe, same pin for drawing as injection? To be honest could be a million things. Many times its sensitivity to a carrier oil (EO for example I'm fine with, some people can't touch it). Is it a site you usually pin or virgin muscle? Is it warm to the touch? Could be a lot of things. I'm in the uk- advantage is I could go docs and say what I did- no insurance so nothing to worry about and using (not selling) isn't illegal, just frowned on. Keep an eye on it. If swelling, heat, discomfort, soft lump, hard lump etc don't wait forever before seeing about it or could be infection- do not self-medicate antibiotics! I've had redness longer than that- more like a week. Don't panic but don't leave it if seems to be getting worse. And don't inject the same area again for a bit! Best of luck fella!
Thanks for the info, no lumps but it was a lil hot for a sec to touch but that went away, i was told it could be the oil just breaking down and icy-hot wouldnt make it worse right
sorry for late response- missed that- sometimes get that reaction myself- carrier oil usually with me or if the BA content high (or short esters/high concentrations!) can-win- if it gets worse after several days then it's concerning- not 100% usual practice but hot bath and ibuprofen works well for me usually- if is worse feel free to submit a picture- we've seen quite a few over time lol
Glad you're on the mend brother...+2 for awesome post. It's great to have positive brothers and sisters here to lean on.... keep up the good work.
This is my version of Facebook! Except a billion times better lol
mine to lol, i dont have a facebook anymore, this is so much better, all like minded people here.
Same here...FB is not for me...lol...imo Eroids has substance...no pun intended...
This community really is the best, people weve never even met trying to help more then friends in real life. Imagine we could all come together and rent out a big ass gym, and then after some place to go for a huge bbq and actually meet everyone and lift together and shoot the shit. That would be awesome. I suffered a partial tear to my proximal bicep tendon last nov, luckily it was just a partial. My biggest mistake was thinking total rest was best for it instead of some physical therapy because when i did come back about 10 weeks later It was only probably at about 60%, 10 weeks with some physical therapy would probably have had me come back at 100%. But like you I had alot of people talking to me via pm helping me get though it. It sucks being out of the gym, it kiled me knowing I was once again going backwards due to an injury. But its over and done with and im back and training and eating hard again, muscle memory, and dbol are great lol. I spent alot of time off cycle building my tendon strength back up before getting back on cycle, about 6 months. So hopefully it doesnt happn again but it stil gets aggrivated on back day.
Mine feels like it's pulled on back exercises so I know what you mean. I swear 99% of the bickering (although it's rare anyway) wouldn't happen if it was face to face- it's that same issue when you text your wife and she takes it as criticism. Plus a lot of younger guys think they are getting shit when really we care far more about these 'strangers' than they know and are truly brothers in iron. I was the same as a 20-30 year old. Read a lot but didn't appreciate the worth of real life experience! Since the injury I've careful not to lock out fully (as I've seen so many people including pros suggesting). I took it they were avoiding full range of motion whereas now it's a lesson learnt. It's crazy but it's the same as when your parents tell you something and you dismiss it- years later you realise how much value they had through experience.
I'm not sucking up to the MODS here as I doubt they'll read this anyway, but some of them have given me fantastic advice, been lenient when I've been bloody minded and are so fair with how they treat people. The reason I mention this is as I read on other forums warnings about corrupt mods and sources and held back from using it as I do now on a daily basis. Not once have I been scammed by anyone, maybe the odd issue, but resolved with ease. Shame it doesn't have the image it deserves... I'm rambling- bloody caffeine-ephedrine combination- I'll go eat lol
Hey bro, thanks for writing that. It's great to hear that being part of the community here was helpful to you. Few people ever express something positive the way you just did. +2
It was a great help- nobody said it was over or any negativity, just support and encouragement, plus the swapping of injury stories! Strangely the people I counted on for support without question (some family and friends) told me to give up the gym, saying I have plenty of good qualities so I don't need the gym to prove anything, I'm too old etc. My wife was the opposite. She's actually joined the gym to follow my rehab and support me. She's found training makes her hungry and (being been severely underweight herself at 6stone) has put on nearly a stone in a month- even doing the shakes bless her. Glad to part of this place!
