Question regarding TRT
ad
31 y/o, turning 32 in August, 2018. After a couple of labs and a visit to an endocrinologist, I was prescribed 200mg of Test Cypionate, once every 2 weeks. I know I am just starting out with this dosage, but it seems very low. My question is, can I up the dosage to 200mg/wk without any issues? At the point, would I need to use AI’s or any other compounds? Thank you for your help.

Be sure your doc tests everything that he's supposed to. I was on trt for a few years, took myself off bc my doc is an idiot. He's not a trt specialist, for some reason the endo referred me to a urologist. He implanted a test capsule and refused to replace it until test levels dropped significantly. I asked many times to test estrogens, estradiol, and dht. He refused and said he wasn't worried about because I'm not fat. He said if I'm concerned about it he can refer me to a coleague of his who knows more about that...like wtf your my trt dr...
Anyways, doctors are not as smart as they want you think. Read enough on here and you'll know all you need to about trt, not as much as an actually smart and educated doctor, but enough to know what should be happening with your trt. I just stopped going to him, ran an intense pct, and a couple months later had my pcp test my levels, which were in the normal range with low free test. I've added boron and more zinc to everything I already take, and now just started proviron in an effort to boost sperm production. If my wife ever gets pregnant I'm going back a cycle.
But to answer your question, if he lets you do the shots at home, then just stick with what he says, modified to a weekly shot. Be sure he tests estradiol, and only worry about ai's if that's high. Sorry for the ramble too much caffeine.
Nope. Stick to the docs script. You’re going to be getting your levels checked in the coming months to dial in that dose to a more appropriate level that puts you where you need to be count wise. You can have a convo with them about moving to weekly injections for better stability, and your dosage may go up or down depending on what the blood work says.
AnonGoing outside of the docs advice will just get the 200mg every 2 weeks taken away from you, but if you have goals of mass and strength I would say that's a pretty good dose, considering you're 170lbs. Add a good diet and strength training and it will turn out on the positive side.
Follow what the doctor has you prescribed at and when you do your bloodwork he will determine if every week or every two is better. Noone here is a doctor, dont look for shortcuts before you even started.
Follow the doc's orders.
Like everyone said below 200mg bi weekly will put you on a roller coaster ride. Because I read up on it first on here I demanded to be put on a weekly dose and not a biweekly one. I am still a TRT newbie but the brothers on here know what they’re talking about.
Listen to them.
Switching to weekly instead of biweekly made a big difference for me as well, definitely recommend it. I started at 200mg biweekly then later split it up and could almost immediately tell a big difference in the way I felt and my energy levels.
Great advice given. Listen to what they said and you will be good. Good luck
Hello Sir,
Would NOT recommend self medicating, would advice to follow doctors recommendations. You will get regular blood work prescribed by the doc therefore it will be easy to monitor your hormone levels.
Also AI's will not be an issue as doctor will be monitoring any changes.
Regards
Like you said your just starting out at that dose so don't don't up the dosage yet . As an example if you were given medication for high blood pressure would you want to up the dosage straight away without knowing how the lower dose will effect you ? No , so stick to the dose your doctor prescribed and if your not happy after a period of time you can speak to him about upping the dose a little .
I’m with everyone else the doctor will adjust after a few more lab visit to see where you are. If you can I would try and get a script or just talk to your pharmacist about getting test cyp @ 100mg/ml. 2x wk injections are better that way you don’t a have any down time in between you don’t want a roller coaster effect on your hormones. But I wouldn’t change your doseage until after you talk with your doctor. 100 weekly should put you between 500-750 on your tear level which is probably where they want you at
I started to say the same thing before I read your post.
No!
That is an appropriate starting trt dose. I agree with Eagles below that you should move to once weekly injections of 100mg per week. This will achieve more stable blood levels and somewhat reduce your peaks and troughs. BUT it somewhat depends on where you are located and whether you are getting your testosterone in a multi use vial or ampules. As you’ve mentioned the cypionate ester I believe you’re likely to be US based and getting a multi use vial as opposed to ampules. If I am wrong and you’re getting ampules then let me know and we can carry on the conversation on how to manage weekly injections with ampules. If you move to a weekly injection I do recommend you tell your endo otherwise if he’s pulling trough bloodwork at 12 to 14 days your levels will look funky (too high) and he will want to reduce your dose.
P.S. 31 is young for TRT what’s the diagnosis?
Good catch. I have been using multi-dose vials for so long that I forgot about the possibility of being prescribed amps. Like you said though, plenty of ways to work around that.
So you are at 100 mg/wk which is about right for TRT. With Testosterone Cypionate I would suggest injecting weekly instead of once every two weeks due to the 7-10 day half life. Injecting 100 mg weekly instead of 200 mg every two weeks will result in much more stable blood levels. Since you are just starting I would keep the dose where the doctor prescribed it and only change the injection schedule. At your next appointment I am sure they will run blood work to test your testosterone level and adjust you if need be. However, if you go increasing the dose and go in there with test way above where it should be they will know and probably discharge you as a patient. They are doctors and know exactly where your test levels should be at that dose.
Don't fix it until you know it's broken. 100 mg/wk (200 mg every two weeks) is about where most people are put. You can also check the TRT section and talk to some guys there who have been on for years; some for decades.
Don't worry about an AI unless you start experiencing estrogen related sides or your E2 is out of range at your next TRT appointment. Again, they will know that your tinkering with things if you go to your next appointment with your E2 crashed out.
They are doctors they know more that us.. why do t you follow your doctors orders and go from there
You said it brother OP needs to stick with what the doctor ordered until at least a year before asking for every week injections. Every single person is different
A d for all anyone knows the OP might metabolize test higher or lower. If my doc told me to do something I certainly would not ask a forum of non doctors what to do. Next people will be giving advice on surgeries and how to perform biopsy's.
