My high calorie dessert - too much sugar or acceptable?

ad

So I have changed my diet and going to pack on some size now that I got a bodyfat I'm happy with. So carbs are back in my diet... And now I am always CRAVING the Quaker brown sugar and maple oatmeal packets. I'll usually have 4-5 packets with water microwaved and cooked, then I'll add 2-3 handfuls of frozen blueberries to them and mix it all up, and it's just the perfect temperature to eat!

This comes out to be 1,000 calories, 200g carbs, 20g protein, 11g fat, 22g fiber, 89g of sugar. This is my breakfast and I'll almost always have it one more time throughout the day usually pre or post workout. The rest of my meals are rice chicken breast beans and veggies and before bed some almonds so the oatmeal with blueberries are like HEAVEN and like a chocolate fudge brownie lava cake to me.

That's about 180g of sugars in my diet daily from the oatmeal packets and frozen blueberries. I don't have any other sugars in my diet. Is this number too high? Or is it acceptable being that 60g of sugars out of the 180g are coming from the blueberries? On top of that besides having it for breakfast it's either pre workout or post workout. Will it affect my look and conditioning? I do cardio every workout as well I managed to do 30 minutes on the stair master after an intense back workout a new record for me!

Any concerns here?

This might shed a little more light on things for you.

To me that is too much sugar, you are signaling your body in the wrong way in the morning to use high frucose corn syrup as energy instead of healthy fats and proteins. Try 2 cups of Quaker whole grain oats (the minute kind) add either a tablespoons of honey (22g) or maple syrup. This will give you a better carb distribution with a natural sugar intake. The sugary Oatmeal packets u eat now contain artificial high frucose corn syrup, which causes an insulin spike, can lead to poor body blood sugar management, obesity, and high blood pressure.

The only time I feel it is justifiable to spike your sugar intake is directly post workout. I usually take about 30g of sugar with creatine and bcaa's.

My only concern is why only eat one when you could eat "three"............... lmao!

Don't stress about it. lol. If you are an ecto you can probably get away with eating like that. If you do start to get a little smooth and you don't like it, it should be easy for you to drop any excess fat anyway.

That is going to be one hell of an insulin spike. I personally would just keep that to my post-workout meal and add a couple scoops of cinnabun whey protein to make it more complete.

If you are trying to minimize fat gain I would shy away from high carb breakfast and go high protein and moderate fat. Your body has switched over to burning fat due to be in a fasted state from no eating all night and is using fat as a primary fuel source. Soon as you introduce carbs that fat burning stops and the carbs take over as a fuel source. If you are bulking have it and eat away but expect to probably gain some more fat than if you just stick with the protein/fat diet for your breakfast to prolong the fat burning. No big deal really if bulking. If trying to maintain or lose fat, not the best idea. Perfect for post-workout though so If you really crave it save for then for a reward for a good workout.

Ham and cheese omlet is my favorite breakfast. Just no toast when I am cutting but plenty of biscuits when I am bulking. Going to be hard to put on much size if you are worried about putting a little fat on and especially doing cardio to boot.

you might want to do cardio first thing in the morning fasted rather than after training.. the most important thing you can do is get protein to the muscle that you just trained by doing cardio right after you are delaying that

well.. i m not the cardio bunny and i do as little of it as possible because all I can see in my head is my muscles being eaten away by needless sweating and running ;-) in fact... I don't run ..lol.. unless it is for dessert ;-)

how is your body reacting to it? are you putting on any extra fat anywhere? I put sugar in my coffee and tea so I know if i start getting fluffly where to look when i need to cut something out ... so the main thing is how does it work for you?

kodiakGRRL's picture

this is why I don't count cals and macros etc ... if I find something that works with how my body processes what i eat then i keep it .. if it doesnt work I ditch it... I have a lot of issues with low blood sugar so I play around a lot with my diet and the times I eat and what I eat ... so your dessert may work well for you or you might find that it is too much sugar.. however we do have to consider the source of sugar .. fruit is metabolized differently that straight up table sugar ... etc
