Lisinopril
Anyone take this either on or off cycle. Or even with TRT?
I come from a terrible family history of high blood pressure. I think I'm the only one not on medication in my family. I was on it for a few years and for whatever reason I stopped. I was able to keep it in check but in the high side no matter the diet or Cardio. I recently expressed my concern to my doctor how it hovers around 139/86 consistently. That is on or off cycle. On cycle it got slightly higher. Usually around 142/86.
With my family history, with my age (38 in a few weeks) I feel like I should try to nip this now and take meds. It's inevitable in my eyes. I watched my mom go through multiple heart surgies and heart attacks. My grandfather also. They both started around their early 40's.they also smoked. I do not. I take good care of my body except ice cream binges on occassion.
Anyway, just looking to hear others on this medication and how it's been for them on and off cycle. Does it help? Doc wrote script for 10mg.I have to see him in a month

I take 2 blood pressure meds, blood thinners and aspirin. I take a boat load of meds and I still work out. I get a bit tired easier but I try to work through it. I was originally put on bp meds 4 years ago and removed myself from them without my doctors ok because I figured I could control it myself. 4 years later I have a widow maker heart attack. Take your meds bro. Who cares how it affects your workout so long as your alive to enjoy your family.
Thanks. It wasn't really affecting my workout. I would absolutely take my health first over my workout either way. I watched my grandfather and mother go through many heart problems which is why I was so pushy with my doc to put me on meds. My BP was normal in his eyes. In mine it was way too high for a 37 year old with crazy family history! Not taking chances.
My bp creeps up when I am not doing enough cardio, and when I am running test at high levels.
I use lisonopril at 20 mg/day when it gets up to 140/85+ to keep it under control.
If I run or swim 4 or 5 days a week, it stays low on its own.
I am doing trt, and when I keep my cruise at <700, I don't have issues.
So I've been on this for 10 days now. BP has already come down to about 130/80. I've been noticing when I stand up from sitting, or bending over I get a quick flash of light headedness. I always thought that meant low blood pressure. I would get that randomly sometimes when I would get up too fast but now it seems more consistant.
Any thoughts?
edit:
I found this. Hopefully it's just my body trying to adjust and it goes away over time. It hasn't affected my workouts or anything like that. Only when standing up after sitting for a little while

This is very common when people start Bp meds and yes it is your body adjusting. It's going to take sometime for your brain to adjust to your " new " set normal point of Bp. What your experiencing is a little bit of Orthostatic hypotension. In other words your Bp is dropping slightly when rising fast just enough so your brain perceives low blood flow thus you feel lightheaded briefly. It will get better. Your BP is looking good now
Thanks again bro. I was hoping that is the case. Something to keep an eye on for sure. I've also noticed I don't seem to get "red face" as easily as before.
Funny (but scary to me) story today. I have a wrist BP monitor which was giving me the readings I posted. I went in to give blood today and they took my BP. The guy said 174/114. I almost shit my pants. I asked if he was sure so he said he would take it again in a few minutes. He did and it was sky high again. So he grabbed another nurse. She used a different stethoscope and my BP was 110/75. That was a relief. So clearly the meds are working. I haven't tested that low in 10 years or more. Damn near shit my pants and drove to the hospital. LOL
So impressive when you use those big words
Way to help this man out! It is advice like this that is well worth its weight in gold that can set the mind at ease.
Thanks man. You know I am no bodybuilder or fitness guru, but I love this site and most of the folks on here. I feel like it's questions like this that I can help and be pull my weight on here.
I am more of a fitness Guru if anything but not usually stuff that applies to many here. I remember after being wounded and getting out of bed one day and dropping to the floor because my bp dropped so fast. Of course I didn't know what happen I related it to the wound itself and when I learned that is was only a bp drop which is common after surgery I was relieved. But immediately when it happen I thought "shit I am going to be discharged on a medical!" Thus ending my career so it may seem little to some but I know how much the right info seems like a life changer.
That's def a common scenario post op.. Scary as hell I bet.
yeah I take it. 20mg/d
I just stated on lisinopril Monday. My bp was pretty freaking high. So far so good. It's still early but no sides yet. Hopefully it will help.
Harvard Health Publications gives an excellent overview of the different types of drugs for controlling hypertension.

Also,
Take this with a grain of salt; a lot of hypochondriacs out there.

The dry cough seems to be a recurring side-effect with lisinopril.
I looked into this issue recently due to my high blood pressure. There are drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers that have less sides because they do not inhibit the angiotensin-converting enzyme, which has other functions besides blood pressure regulation.
Olmesartan, a angiotensin receptor blocker, is of particular interest:

90% of people I know who use a BP med take Lisinopril. No personal experience with it though.
I've been taking it for 4 years with no problems . Keeps my bp in check
