I would advise against insulin use. Period. But if your going to play with it look into an insulin analog.
Its incredible how many people do not understand the benefits of Insulin Spikes post workout....
IDK why so many people comment on this topic who have never researched how and why it works..
You either know reasons why people pin Insulin or you dont, but if not there is another approach..
This can be achieved by Carb Backloading, and if you do it correctly it works like magic.
This is not a new idea and it isnt for everyone but it will lower fat and increase strength.
If you have a very low BF then you shouldn't consider CBL. There is no real reason to.
But if you are over 15% and you do it right the results will blow you away.
Eat ZERO carbs throughout the entire day until AFTER an intense workout. The workout should happen in the late afternoon. 30 mins to 1 hour after the pump you want to eat Carbs that are HIGH on the Glycemic Index. You want a spike so the muscles get what they need and be done with it. You do not want a slow release as will happen with carbs Low on the GI otherwise they will hinder the release of natural HGH while you sleep.
Where everyone gives wrong advice is they forget that ingesting high glycemic carbs directly after a hard workout will NEVER get stored as fat. It does NOT happen. What happens is your muscles take it ALL for Glycogen. The tGLUTS in your muscles go nuts after heavy contractions and when those carbs come through they take it all. Your body will store the glycogen for the next day when, again, you dont eat carbs all day until after the late day workout. And during that workout is when your muscles will use the Glycogen to help you push through your last reps. You will go further before failure guaranteed.
When you first do it, eating pancakes and syrup right after a heavy workout feels very wrong, until you wake up feeling tight and by the 3rd week you have lost a stupid amount of fat while actually getting stronger at every exercise.
Its not for everyone, only people who use real resistance training, hard.
The average couch potatoes who have eaten themselves into a bad state of insulin resistance should not even think about it.
This isnt a couch potato website so lets stop giving advice that pertains to them.
If you are interested in this then get the information direct from John Kiefer.
Interesting.
If on gear and you wish to spike your insulin post workout or first thing in the am, amino acids will do the trick. 10-15g of BCAAs will do the trick. However the best way to check is with a glucometer and see what works best for you. Also avoid caffeine around these times as they increase insulin concentrations without a decrease in blood sugar
Easiest way to spike insulin is with a simple carb, something that can be metabolised quickly and restore blood glucose... this is only suggested for first thing in the morning and after you train... you can take a gatorade and some vanilla protein and badda boom..
Get a blood glucose reader and eat 20g of carbs and check your blood glucose levels every 10 min. Once your levels start dropping you then know how many carbs you need to eat to spike your insulin.
Anyways brudda like I said, if you're dieting down to lose fat you don't want insulin spikes. You want steady insulin levels throughout the day. So forget the insulin spike idea. It wont help you in your current goal
Great info bro, I've been saying that for years LOL + respect my friend!
Spiking insulin doesnt effect weight loss. Although when your insulin is elevated the body has no need to burn fat since it has glucose at its disposal. Fat loss is only energy in vs energy out. If you consume 400 calories from carbs and burn 500 calories in that same period of time your body needs to get that 100 calories from somewhere to keep going so it starts depleting glycogen stores. Check my profile I have a post on nutrient timing and fat loss.
Spiking Insulin post workout while cutting will kill the endogenous growth hormone realease that is exhibited post workout and negate the body's use of fat for energy after depletion of glycogen stores. So spiking insulin does have an effect on dieting when the goal is fat burning. Steady insulin levels combined with a caloric deficit is a recipe for success in any person.
A logical reply with science behind it. I thought I would never see this day. Almost thought this site was filled with nothing but a bunch of arrogant personal trainers and meat heads. You are very right on that insulin will prevent growth hormone from being produced. On the other hand if your glucose levels drop to low then the liver produces igf which almost has the same properties as gh thus rendering your theory of having stable insulin levels invalid. You want your insulin to raise and drop so your body has a chance to produce gh and igf. Its about balancing your macros out and manipulating the timing on them. Fat loss all comes down to portion control and essentially is really just energy in vs energy out. I wrote an article about nutrient timing you can find it in my profile.
Lol. I'm an arrogant meathead personal trainer who loves science so we both win. You'll be surprised what happens to roll off the keyboards around here sometimes. Its true it is just in < out. We can nitpick the finer details all day but for the average gym goer with weight loss goals the basics work 100% of the time. The finer details come with finer goals.
I took back my neg, lol. I thought he was asking about slin as well..
Heck!! Poor dude...i negged him on accident!! I tapped the thumbs up and just realized....lol!!
shoxingbiceps17I've always used 50/50 mixture of dextrose and maltodextrin at a 2:1 ratio to protein...so 40g protein 80g carb mixture. In the same shaker directly post workout
This doesn't work for everybody and you really have to watch it, because it has a fat spill over...
shoxingbiceps17Oh I agree bro. Just my personal experience
this ^^^ best way for natural spike. just worry about eating well post cycle though mate, post training meal shouls be a banquet, steak preferebally.
Post training meal should consist of a majority of complex carbs and high protein... the only thing I would suggest is upping the carb/protein intake by 40%, so your banquet doesn't turn into a pot belly...eat your carbs and fats first and protein last... eating order affects body composition.
was stating easiest way to create natural insulin spike, said nothing about pot bellies, maltodextrin is the quickest way.
I agree, my point was not to overindulge on your post workout meal, because you don't want a fat spill over from the maltodextrin.. it tends to cause a spillover factor, if you consume too much.
unless you have a proper diet and know what your doing.
exactly
20 yr old DUMBASS!! Goodbye!

I thought he's asking how many carbs to eat to spike insulin level post workout instead of taking the real thing.
shoxingbiceps17Yea, I'm pretty sure he was just asking about post workout carbs
my bad, UNbanned... Former dope fiend and saw "spike" in the same sentence as "insulin" LOL
Thats some good stuff right there....lol!! Make me laugh on a Monday...:-):-):-)

shoxingbiceps17haha i almost negged him when i read spike, insulin, and 20yrs old!
Are your stats correct? Is that you in your avitar? Put a number on your BF%....Thanks
yeah thats me about 1 year ago i would be guessing my body fat
75% of your protein intake should be from food. And, if you do protein powder you can use casein before bedtime for a slower absorption rate, which helps the body burn fat....
Casein doesnt burn fat...
You are so right. Can you add to this thread????
I am not sure on how to get it to spike, unless you ate a larger portion of your carbs 45 mins post workout, which would also help stimulate natural growth hormone synthesis.
I would start doing daily weights in am and pm...and get some BF calipers.
Your macros could be 200-270g of protein, 50g of complex carbohydrates, and 120g of MUFAs and PUFAs, daily. U look ectomorph body type, so utilzing the harris benedict equation and meeting your maintenance daily caloric needs plus adjusting for activity would be a good beginning to see results in a two month time frame. You do cardio? If you do you could probably walk or jog for 20-30 min two times per week and be good, in addition the above noted regimen.
In addition to a clean diet try keeping your carbohydrate intake around 50g per day. Dont eat any carbs after 2pm. And, try using coconut oil in minimal amounts to minimize cravings for carbs.
I would guess between 8-9% BF. You are 198 pounds? You are 21?
This post also needs to go to the diet nutrition section.
Opposing forces there bro. Just rock a clean meal. low fat moderate carbs high protein.
